“Auntie, Uncle, my mom said you’re the most reliable among all the relatives. You really need to help me with this.” Lynn suddenly lifted her head and blurted out.
“Sophia, don’t just focus on your food. You heard what Lynn said earlier. You’re the CEO of a company now. Just lend a hand to your little cousin,” Aunt Sandy shifted her attention to Sophia.
Sophia looked up and replied directly, “Aunt, it’s not that I don’t want to help, but I genuinely can’t assist in this matter. I have no connections whatsoever with the high-level executives of Azure Cloud Group, especially not the ones from Azure Financial. I’m truly sorry.”
Upon hearing this, Aunt Sandy’s face immediately darkened. She had come here full of confidence, but the outcome turned out to be like this.
“Hmph, always making excuses when it matters. I can tell you don’t really want to help!” Aunt Sandy’s frustration showed.
“Mom, I told you not to come here. In this day and age, people only care about themselves. Our family has no money or power. Even if we have relatives, it doesn’t mean much!” Lynn added fuel to the fire.
Jessica’s expression also soured as she looked at Lynn, saying, “If we could help, we definitely wouldn’t decline. But in this case, we truly can’t do anything.”
Aunt Sandy sneered, “Jessica, you haven’t even tried, and you’re already saying you can’t help. I’m really disappointed. Back when you were in school, I used to send you money for allowances every year. I never thought it would come to this. Sigh…”
As Aunt Sandy was about to bring up old matters, Jessica felt embarrassed, “Sis please don’t be like this. I’ll go to the headquarters of that company tomorrow for you. That should be enough, right?”
“What’s the use of it? I’ve already asked around. It’s about using connections now, you understand?” Aunt Sandy wasn’t easily pacified.
“Mom, Aunt, there’s actually someone who might be able to help,” Sophia glanced at Leo.
“Who?” Aunt Sandy and Jessica said simultaneously.
Sophia pointed towards the couch, “Leo.”
“Leo?” Suddenly, Aunt Sandy’s anger flared up. “Sophia, if you don’t want to help, just say so. Why push this onto a useless… a freeloader like him?” This family had a unique sense of humor. They were now using a literal deadweight as a scapegoat. This wasn’t just brushing it off anymore; it was insulting their intelligence.
After a brief moment of surprise, Jessica remembered the picture Sophia had shown her.
“Sis, maybe Leo can really help,” Jessica looked intently at Leo, who was sitting on the couch playing with his phone.
Aunt Sandy couldn’t hold back anymore and stood up from her chair, “I knew this would be the outcome. Now that the Henley family has money, you look down on us. Fine, from today on, we’re done being sisters!”
Jessica chuckled at the ridiculousness of it all, standing up and grabbing Aunt Sandy’s hand, “Sis, calm down. Leo knows some medical skills. He even treated the chairman of Azure Cloud Group recently…”
It was getting even more absurd. Aunt Sandy pulled her hand away from Jessica, her tone icy, “Lynn, why are you still sitting? Useless people can heal now? Pigs can fly? Do they think we’re idiots? Let’s go!”
Jessica hurriedly walked to the couch and called out to Leo, “Leo, quickly call the chairman of Azure Cloud Group and ask for a favor!”
Jessica knew that if her sister left in such a state, she would surely spread rumors about her. Her reputation among relatives would be ruined.
Being someone who cared about her reputation, Jessica couldn’t allow that to happen.
Leo got up from the couch, “Alright, I’ll make a call.”
He walked outside and dialed Renee’s number.
After a few brief exchanges, Leo hung up and returned to the room.
“It’s done. Lynn can work at that company,” Leo said calmly, as if he had just completed a trivial task.
“Leo, you’re a useless idiot, but we’re not! Are you insulting our intelligence?!” Aunt Sandy directly pointed at Leo and scolded him. “This world is heartless. You can’t rely on anyone. Lynn, let’s go. Our presence is embarrassing the mighty Henley family!”
Just as a furious Aunt Sandy was about to leave with Lynn, Lynn’s phone suddenly rang.
The caller ID showed it was from the HR department of Azure Cloud’s Azure Financial.
“Mom, it’s a call from Azure Financial!” Lynn was so excited that she forgot to answer the call.
Aunt Sandy urged her, “Silly girl, why are you just standing there? Answer the call!”
Only then did Lynn press the answer button on the screen.
The call ended quickly, and Lynn hung up, her excitement hard to conceal.
“Mom, it was the HR manager. She asked me to bring my documents and come to the company headquarter for an interview tomorrow afternoon,” Lynn said excitedly.
“Really?” Aunt Sandy’s anger dissipated immediately. If the HR manager called personally, it meant Lynn had a high chance of passing the interview.
“The manager even said that if I pass the interview, there’s a three-month probation period. During that time, I’ll be paid five thousand dollars per month. After I become a regular employee, my salary won’t be less than seven thousand dollars per month!”
Such salary was definitely considered high in Langstel.
“I knew my Lynn is the best!” Aunt Sandy couldn’t help but praise.
Sophia’s gaze turned to Leo. She had only asked him to help as a shot in the dark, without much hope. She didn’t expect results this quickly.
“It’s a good thing I sent that job application email to the HR department yesterday. I didn’t expect them to respond so soon. It’s truly amazing how opportunities can arise unexpectedly,” Aunt Sandy felt great.
Jessica didn’t quite agree. The call came right after Leo made the call. This wasn’t a coincidence, but Aunt Sandy didn’t seem to see it.
“Sis, you should thank Leo. He helped,” Jessica didn’t want her contribution to go unnoticed.
“What? Am I hearing this right? Thank Leo?” Aunt Sandy suppressed her excitement and sneered, “You’re saying that I sent the application in advance, but Azure Financial noticed Lynn’s abilities and this has nothing to do with Leo pretending to make a call just now. And I should thank him?”
“Aunt Sandy, that’s not quite right. Why did Azure Financial call right after Leo’s call?” Sophia countered.
