Chapter 41: Forty-Two Million

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

“It seems like another big rise!”
“If it’s really a rise, then today on this stone-cutting machine, it’ll be four rises out of four cuts, a legend in the gambling stone world…”
The discussions among the crowd made Antony feel somewhat proud and more confident. His eyes swept over Leo, who seemed to be leaving, and he quickly called him back, “Leo, you’ve succeeded three times today, your luck is pretty good. So how about you help me cut this half-gamble stone?”
People who gamble on stones believe in luck, and now that Leo is on a roll, he can use his hand to cut a big rise for him.
Leo waved his hand, “I have a feeling this half-gamble stone is going to fail. You’d better cut it yourself.”
“What did you say?” Antony’s face, which had been wearing a confident smile, froze upon hearing Leo’s words.
Damn it, how can he curse the stone before even starting?
If it weren’t for so many people watching, Antony would have already scolded Leo badly. Suppressing the anger, Antony asked coldly, “Leo, what makes you think my half-gamble stone will fail?”
“Just a feeling,” Leo said with an indifferent expression.
“A feeling?” Antony sneered, “If feelings were enough to play gambling stones, I’m afraid everyone in the world of gambling stones would be a multimillionaire by now. Are you here to joke around?”
“I just said what I felt. Believe it or not, you should be prepared for it to collapse,” Leo casually replied, emphasizing the word “collapse.”
Leo’s constant use of the word “collapse” triggered Antony’s anger. Gamblers hate to hear that word, just like stock investors hate to hear the word “drop.”
Antony controlled his temper and looked Leo in the eye, asking, “Leo, since you’re so certain, do you dare to make a bet with me? Let’s bet on that nine-million-dollar cash cheque you’re holding!”
“Are you sure you want to bet with me?” Leo shot back.
“Of course, do you think I’m someone who jokes around? If this half-gamble stone rises, you lose nine million to me. If it collapses, I’ll give you nine million . How about that?”
Watching the smug expression on Leo’s face, Antony couldn’t stand it. Today, he wanted to humiliate Leo in front of everyone.
The reason Antony dared to bet was that he was confident. After acquiring this half-gamble stone, he had it appraised by experts accompanying him, and the probability of it rising was extremely high.
Seeing Antony looking stern, Leo found it amusing. Since someone was willingly giving him money, he had no reason to decline.
Leo immediately put on an acting performance, with a look of contemplation and hesitation on his face.
Seeing this expression, Antony became even more certain of his victory and taunted, “Leo, weren’t you just swearing you could win? Why, are you scared now?”
Feeling in control of the situation, Antony believed that if Leo didn’t dare to bet, it would prove he was just talking nonsense, and he would be making a fool of himself. If Leo did dare to bet, then the nine million Leo earned from selling the red jade would become his in no time.
Leo raised his head, as if he had made a significant decision, and loudly said to Antony, “Mr. William, since fate has brought us together and we’re going to bet, why don’t we make it a big one? I remember you spent 33 million ton a jade, right?”
Antony nodded, not understanding Leo’s intentions.
“Here’s the deal. I just unlocked a glass-type purple flower jade from the waste material, and someone offered 33 million for it, which is about the price of your transparent material. Let’s bet forty-two million. If I lose, I’ll give you the nine million cash cheque and the glass-type purple flower jade. If you lose, you give me nine million, along with the jade you won. How about that?”
After Leo finished speaking, Antony couldn’t help but stare at him in disbelief, wearing an incredulous expression.
Is this guy really crazy?
The onlookers also let out low exclamations. A gamble for forty-two million was considered a high-stakes game.
“Mr. William, what’s the matter? Are you afraid?” Leo teased, feeling delighted by the thrill of turning the tables.
This feeling of outmaneuvering his opponent was truly satisfying.
“This young man must be insane to dare to bet forty-two million!”
“Even if his luck is good, he can’t just do whatever he wants.”
“Could it be true that Antony’s half-gamble stone will actually collapse?”
“How could it collapse? I’ve been in the gambling stone world for so long, and it’s the first time I’ve seen a half-gamble stone with such good quality.”
The people around them started discussing animatedly, especially some young women whose eyes were filled with a different kind of brilliance as they looked at Leo. To them, anyone daring to gamble over forty million must either be rich or powerful. Moreover, being so young made Leo far superior to the older men around them.
After a brief moment of surprise, Antony began to speculate: Where does this guy get his confidence? Although I am wealthy, forty-two million is not a small amount. Does he really think I won’t bet?
Antony looked into Leo’s eyes, but besides the relaxed and contented expression on his face, he couldn’t read anything more.
Does he think his luck will guarantee a win?
The crowd heard Antony’s silence and thought he was backing down, so they began whispering to each other again.
“Antony didn’t agree. I think he’s a little timid.”
“The manager of Starry Gem Jewelry, afraid to bet with forty-two million? He seems kind of timid.”
“If I were him, I would definitely take the bet with such good-quality half-gamble stone.”
The chatter of the people around him was starting to get on Antony’s nerves, provoking his sensitive temperament.
“This guy might have good luck, but he’s no god. It’s impossible for him to say a stone has no jade and make it happen. Anthony is the heir of the William family, the general manager of Starry Gem Jewelry. If he doesn’t dare to accept this bet, I’m afraid the second-generation heirs in the circle will mock him.”
With these thoughts in mind, Antony looked at Leo with hawk-like eyes and replied, “Leo, are you sure you want to bet? Don’t regret it later.”
“Why are you dragging this on? Are you betting or not? Just give me an answer!” Leo continued to provoke.
“I bet!” Antony’s face showed what he thought was a domineering look. Regardless of the outcome, he was determined to take the upper hand in terms of the imposing manner.
The news of this high-stakes gamble quickly spread through word of mouth, attracting more and more onlookers.
Nicola gently tugged on Leo’s sleeve and reminded him in a low voice, “This is forty-two million, not four hundred and twenty. Leo, think it through.”
“Trust me,” Leo winked at Nicola, then looked at the crowd and said, “Ladies and gentlemen, I and Mr. William have a wager. I’d appreciate it if you could act as witnesses. No matter the result, neither side can back out!”
Both stone cutting and high-stakes gambling was a thrilling spectacle that captivated the onlookers. Upon hearing Leo’s words, the crowd eagerly volunteered to act as witnesses.
