Chapter 24: Splurging Money

Book:The All-powerful Son-In-Law Published:2024-6-3

Leo was not shocked by the story and legend surrounding this dagger; what shocked him was the abundant spiritual energy contained within it. In Leo’s gaze, he could clearly see the dagger slowly absorbing the faint spiritual energy in its surroundings. After examining the strange symbols engraved on the surface of the dagger, Leo became even more excited. These symbols felt somewhat familiar to him, as if they had left an impression in his mind, but he couldn’t recall where he had seen them before.
This blood jade dagger was definitely extraordinary. According to the records in ancient books stored in his mind, this thing should be called a magic weapon, or at the very least, a magical tool. Such a precious item was rarely encountered and should not be missed. Leo decided that he must win this auction, no matter what.
“This treasure is one of a kind and incredibly rare. Guests who are interested should not miss out,” the auctioneer continued to incite the crowd from the stage.
“The starting bid for this blood jade dagger is five million, with increments of ten thousand. The auction begins now!” The auctioneer struck the gavel.
“Five million five hundred thousand!”
“Six million!”
“Seven million!”
“Mr. 66 bids seven million! And there, Mr. 98 bids eight million!”
Most of the participants in the bidding were men, as women weren’t particularly interested in knives and swords. The competition for this rare blood jade dagger was intense, and the price quickly skyrocketed, surpassing ten million in no time.
Leo waited quietly below. He currently had sixty million on him, so he should be able to secure the blood jade dagger.
“Fifteen million!”
“Eighteen million!”
The price kept rising.
“Twenty million!” Coral raised her bidding number.
Coral’s action immediately drew a lot of attention. Among all the women present, she was the only one to bid.
“The beautiful lady from No. 33 bids twenty million. Truly a discerning eye. Is there a higher bid?”
Antony, who had been silent all along, looked at Coral with a playful expression on his face. He raised the bidding paddle in his hand and said, “Thirty million!”
“Ah, the handsome gentleman at number 66 bids thirty million! An increase of ten million, is there anyone willing to go higher?” The auctioneer’s voice couldn’t contain his excitement.
Coral didn’t raise her bid any further.
Seeing that Antony was the one bidding, no one else in the audience added to the price, and the atmosphere suddenly quieted.
“Is there a higher bid?” The auctioneer asked the entire audience again.
“Mr. Tyler, aren’t you going to compete for this rare treasure?” Mr. Kipling asked Mr. Tyler beside him.
Mr. Tyler shook his head. “This thing is indeed rare, but it’s likely from an ancient tomb. Plus, it’s made of blood jade, which, as you mentioned, is inauspicious. I’ll pass.”
“Forty million!”
At this moment, a voice broke the silence of the venue. Everyone looked towards the source, and the bidder was sitting next to Coral-it was the man who had come with her.
Antony naturally heard that it was Leo bidding. His expression immediately darkened. It seemed like this guy was intentionally going against him.
No, he couldn’t lose the upper hand. Antony gritted his teeth and raised his bidding number. “Forty-five million!”
“Fifty million!” Leo raised his number again.
Even Coral’s gaze at him became complicated, and the crowd started whispering among themselves.
“Who is this young man? He looks unfamiliar. How can he spend so extravagantly?”
“He’s probably a hidden second-generation wealthy individual. I think his surname is Bloomer.”
“Bloomer? Could he be from another place or perhaps the Bloomer family in the capital?”
“It’s very likely. Otherwise, why would he be with Coral? You know she has never brought a male companion before.”
“…”
The discussions among the crowd irritated Antony. Damn it, no one has ever dared to use money against me!
“Fifty-five million!” Antony added another five million and glared at Leo.
If Leo raised his bid again, Antony would have a hard time keeping up. After all, he now controlled Starry Gem Jewelry. It would be a waste to throw his money away on this blood jade dagger just to show off in front of Coral.
What Antony feared even more was what would happen when the peers in his family found out about this. They would gossip behind his back, as there were many who coveted his position within the family.
Coral, oh Coral, I’m doing all this for you!
Leo raised his bidding number once more and declared, “Sixty million!”
Antony felt like he was going to spit blood. Was this guy insane?
Seeing Coral’s surprised gaze directed at Leo, Antony misinterpreted its meaning. He lost control for a moment and shouted, “Sixty-five million!”
“This is madness, pure madness,” Mr. Kipling shook his head and sighed.
“Old Kipling, do you know why Leo is so determined to win this blood jade dagger?” Mr. Tyler asked curiously.
“How would I know? Even people who understand feng shui wouldn’t buy this dagger. It’s inauspicious to have it at home. Could it be that he wants to show off his wealth in front of Coral?” Mr. Kipling suddenly thought of an explanation.
“You’re thinking the same as me. Now, only Leo and Antony are bidding. Antony seems to have an interest in Coral too.”
“Mr. 66 has already raised the price to sixty-five million. What a crazy number! Is there a higher bid?” The auctioneer’s voice couldn’t hide his excitement as he looked in Leo’s direction.
Leo’s mouth twitched. He never expected Antony to be so stubborn and insist on competing with him for this blood jade dagger.
Regardless, he couldn’t let go of this dagger.
Leo looked at Coral beside him and whispered, “Miss Wilde, can you lend me ten million?”
Coral looked into Leo’s eyes, her clear and determined gaze filled with persistence.
Coral smiled teasingly and said, “Leo, I can lend you the money, but if you win this blood jade dagger, do you still have the money to bet against me?”
“Rest assured, I won’t lose a bet,” Leo’s tone was unquestionable.
“Okay, go ahead and bid.” Somehow, Coral felt that Leo was trustworthy.
Under the gaze of the crowd, Leo raised his bidding number once again. “Seventy million!”
“Mr. 32 bids seventy million!”
Leo didn’t disappoint the auctioneer.
“Damn!” Antony forcefully slammed his bidding number on the table. “This guy is really crazy!”
He decided to give up. Competing with a madman had made him lose his rationality. If he impulsively won this blood jade dagger and returned home, he would be scolded to death by his father.
“Is there a higher bid?” The auctioneer scanned the entire venue.
No one responded.
“It seems that no one can offer a higher price than Mr. 32.”
“Seventy million going once!”
“Seventy million going twice!”
“Sold!” The auctioneer struck the gavel. “Now, I announce that this rare treasure, the blood jade dagger, is won by Mr. 32!”
