“Oh, you want to check if my sister’s still alive or already dead, is that it?!” he said through gritted teeth.
“No! I didn’t know that this will happen. I’m so sorry!” I shook my head repeatedly.
“I don’t believe you! Don’t you dare go near Alessandra or go here, or else I’ll call the police!” he said sharply.
He harshpy let me go and turned around. That’s when my tears bursted.
I was very hurt for Alessandra. She doesn’t deserve all of these. We both just loved and got hurt, so I don’t blame her anger towards me.
“Please, Marcus… Tell me she’s fine… Please, I’m so sorry!” My voice already cracked. My tears kept on falling as I watch him walk away.
My vision slowly blurred as I was overwhelmed with emotions.
“Damn! What are you doing here?!”
I heard Ellwood’s baritone voice beside me but I didn’t have any strength to answer him as my vision turned black.
I abruptly got up from bed because of the struck of light hitting my face.
My eyes wandered around, am I in my room? What happened last night?
I held my head while trying to remember what happened. I bit my lip hard when everything came crashing through.
“Good morning! How’s your sleep?”
I turned to Ellwood who’s carrying a tray with food.
He sat on the corner of the bed and placed the tray beside me. “I cooked you breakfast.” he said lowly.
I brushed my palms on my face and combed my hair.
“Thank you you shouldn’t have bothered…” I tried to stand up but he stopped me.
He caught my eyes and held my hand, sighing heavily.
“How are you feeling? You lost consciousness last night. The doctor said you were to stressed so your body dropped.”
I closed my eyes and remembered what happened. I remembered something, I was laying on a hospital bed. I wanted to open my eyes but I couldn’t. I heard a small talks not far from where I am.
“It’s at least two to three weeks. Just make sure that she’s been taken care of well and not tired to prevent this incidents from happening.”
I clearly heard that from the doctor but my eyes were to tired. I just wanted to sleep and rest.
I came back to reality when I heard him sigh again.
“Until when will you do this, Emory?”
I swallowed hard, wetting my dry lips and averting my eyes away from him.
“All of this caused you a lot of pain. Aren’t you tired?”
I looked at him. Even if I didn’t want to, tears started gathering in my eyes.
“I’m not saying this just to have a chance with you. I’m saying this because I cared for you! I regret not telling you these things earlier.” He shook his head, “If I knew this would happen, I wouldn’t have agreed to what Tita wanted…”
He caressed my hand. I bit my lip because his words were like knife cutting my heart into pieces.
“Please, Emory. Stop this…”
I wiped my tears and fought the emotion I was feeling.
“Don’t ask me to stop this fight because I can’t, Ellwood. I loved my husband so much. We are bonded and promised to be one and shared our dreams together!”
He sighed again while still caressing my hand.
“If there is anyone who should make a decision over this situation, it’s no other than Hezekiah! You’re like fighting for nothing, all your hardship and sacrifices are useless if he ends up choosing Alessandra. Even if you file a case against them, it’s still useless.”
I pulled my hand and held the spoon and fork. I started eating the breakfast he prepared. I wanted to avoid what he said but these tears just streamed down my face.
He watched me finished the food before speaking again.
“I already talked to my friend Callus.” My gaze went to him.
“He told me about the case of Alessandra.” he paused and looked at me dimly. “She had a congestive heart failure…”
My lips parted at what he said. Fear immediately rose inside me.
“His father died because of heart attack at age of fifty. She unfortunately got the sickness from him. Her case is more risky because of her complication. She also had diabetes.”
“This is the first time she had a heart attack. And luckily it’s mild attack, we don’t know what will gonna happen if sje continued having heart attacks.”
I bit down my lip. I don’t want to believe him. I know Alessandra well. She’s fit and perfect. I never once saw her feel something like this.
“Is she awake?” I asked slowly.
“Callus said she woke up last night. She also got discharged today.”
Maybe they already went back to San Marcelino. I’m sure they’re with Hezekiah. I didn’t want to accept the fact but I realized that he chose Alessandra.
“There’s one thing you need to know…” he said in a sharp breathe.
His eyes were so dark. And my heart thumped erratically.
“What is it?”
He pulled my hand and brought it to his lips. He shut my eyes and stayed at his position for a awhile.
When he opened his eyes, her expression was so soft as he stared at me.
“She’s pregnant…”
I took a deep breath and bit my lip hard.
Tears streamed down my face continuously. I was stabbed repeatedly in my heart with the news.
“Damn it!” he cursed and lifted up his chin frustratedly.
And then he lowered down his head to look at me in the eye.
“And you are pregnant, too…”
*******
Days passed by and I was just inside the house. Ellwood comes here everyday. Sometimes, he brings me food from his restaurant that he cooked himself.
He was eager to help me move on from this mess. He didn’t leave me even if I kept on pushing him away.
“Come on, why don’t you ask her out on a date? You look good together, ” I joked on him one afternoon. He brought beef spareribs and lemon cake from his restaurant.
“My mind is still not focused on dating someone.” His lips turned up wide while shaking his head.
I stared at him. We’re talking about Zuay, but he doesn’t seem interested about her.
“She’s kind and intelligent. She’s beautiful!” I insisted.
He shook his head again and focused on eating his food. I furrowed my brows. I just noticed that he’s a big eater. It’s not noticeable from his fit body to be so into eating.
“How about Tawin?” I arched my brows at him.
He stopped eating and leaned against his chair. He looked at me with his dark stonily eyes.
“Do you really want to push me away?”
I shifted on my seat and looked away. I’m not trying to push him away. I just don’t want to imprison him from the responsibility that I didn’t ask him to take.
“I just wanted you to enjoy your life with other girls. You’re not getting younger, you’re already 30!” I teased.
“Wooh, wait! Me, 30?! I’m just twent eight!” he sulked.
“Oh, I’m sorry! You’re just twenty eight? It doesn’t look so…” I said, stifling a laugh.
“Tss… The twenty seven just talked!” he teased me back.
“Hey! Echeverri, I’m only twenty five! What do you think about me, huh?!” I widened my eyes at him.
“If you say so,” he then shrugged his shoulder.
