I gulped. I noticed how Alessandra’s forehead creased while the two were casually conversing.
Marcus held Alessandra’s arm and interrupted the conversation. Her mother’s eyes were going back and forth on Gabriel and who he was talking to.
Because of the distance, I was not able to hear what they were talking about, until they looked to my direction.
My heart almost stopped as I watched Alessandra’s face turned into a grimace. She faced Marcus and quickly held his wrist.
I dropped my head because I couldn’t meet with her stares.
“Ah, Hunts…” I said, voice wavering.
“Ma’am!” he answered quickly.
“Let’s go home…”
I didn’t wait for his response and turned my back, exiting the place.
But suddenly my feet stood in the ground when someone’s called my name.
“Meredith, where are you going? The party just started!” Tyra stopped me.
I’m just here if you need anything, Ma’am!” Hunts whispered right behind me.
I gasped when she walked towards us. She moved gracefully while holding a champagne glass in her hand.
“You are going home?” she asked again.
“Ah, I suddenly don’t feel so good,” I said.
Her eyebrows raised. How unfortunate, our classmates from high school is here! ”
I smiled timidly before glancing at Gabriel who was on the other table.
“And oh? I want to meet the celebrant. I haven’t had the chance to talk to them.”
She didn’t wait for my answer and called Gabriel and Alessandra.
Gabriel’s eyes met with mine. His dark piercing eyes made my heart skipped its beat.
“Hi! Happy Anniversary!” Tyra greeted them.
“Thank you!” Alessandra said.
“By the way, I’d like to introduce myself to you. I’m Tyra Villaflor, the heiress of Villaflor trading,” she confidently said.
“Oh! Nice to meet you, Tyra!” Alessandra said gleefully.
“And this is my friend, Meredith Emory Grant! The heiress of Rising stone. And she also owns the biggest Mall here in Queensland!”
I instantly threw a gaze at Gabriel. He remained calm and firm.
“Really?” Alessandra confirmed.
I swallowed hard as I watched how her brows knitted, lips pursed tightly and glanced at me after.
“Yes!” Tyra turned her face to Gabriel.
“Gabriel, right? Uhm, you look so familiar, did we met before?” she sai with forehead creasing.
“I don’t think so. I don’t go here often.”
I shut my eyes for a moment. My heart tightened in pain.
“I don’t believe you. You’re really familiar, right, Meredith?” Tyra insisted.
I only shrugged my shoulders.
“Are you sure, Meredith? He had a lot of similarities with Hezekiah. ” she insisted, “You and his husband, are much alike!” Tyra excalimed, turning to Gabriel. na kay Gabriel naman humarap.
Gabriel clenched his jaw while shaking his head. “Maybe it’s just a coincidence.
“No! Your voice are the same. Even your hair and those brown eyes! Where did you and you wife alessandra met?”
“It’s none of your business. There’s a lot of people in the world, it’s not impossible for him to look like someone,” Alessandra said, clinging onto Gabriel.
“Ow! I’m so sorry. Did I offend you? I didn’t mean to, actually my whole colleagues out there are wondering about your husband and why are we even invited here?” she said, eyes wide.
“Tyra enough!” I tried to stop her but Alessandra averted her gaze at me.
If earlier, her eyes were sparkling. Now, I couldn’t comprehend the meaning behind her sharp glare.
“Well, I guess it’s not impossible. There’s gotta to be someone who looks like you! Anyway, I’m so happy to meet you guys and my best wishes to the both of you!”
She kissed both of them on the cheeks before going somewhere.
The atmosphere became silent after she left.
I hesved a sigh before facing them.
“Uh, I’d better go… I have to do something on my office tomorrow…” I said in my tight lips.
“So it’s true, you came from a well family. You are the heiress of Rising stone? The Cervantes?!”
I was surprised because she knew a lot about my family. It didn’t occur to me that our business had a big scope that made her familiar of my family.
I didn’t repy.
“How come you ended up in San Marcelino? So you’ve been lying to us since the very first day?! Did you plan to cross the road and get hit by me so you can enter our liveds?” she said, voices raising.
I turned to Gabriel. His brown eyes almost turned into a black. He clenched his jaw before averting his eyes away from me.
“Sandra, don’t stress yourself out, it’s not good for you…” he muttered in a low voice.
“No, I’m okay!” she said and looked at me again. “Is it true, Meredith? Did you lie to us?!” she said angrily.
I let out a sharp breath. This is the reason why I came here in the first place, to tell her the truth. So why did I end up crashing and frightened?
I saw Gabriel held her wrist to sto9 her but she’s too resistant .
“Your husband? Is it true that Gabriel lookrd like your deceased husband?” Her lips lifted. “So that’s why you entered as a maid? Because you can see your husband in Gabriel?!” Her voice raised.
“No! It’s not what I meant! You don’t understand, Alessandra… ” I tried to control my voice, but the emotions began crashing in as I felt my eyes welling.
“Which is not clear to me? Tell me, are you trying to seduce my husband?! Did you do that when I’m not looking, huh?!” she now spat angrily.
I know some people were already stwrijg at us because of her voice.
“Alessandra…” Gabriel tried to stop her.
“How could you do this to me, Meredith? I treated you like my sister!” Her voice broke.
My eyes flew to Gabriel. His jaw clenched so hard. I was expecting him to say something but he didn’t. He remained holding Alessandra’s arm, guiding her as she slowly broke down.
“What’s happening here?!” Si Marcus. He arrived together with his mother.
“That girl is an opportunist! She’s flirting with my husband!” she said loudly, enough for everyone in the hall to hear.
Her mom stepped in and stared at me. “And who are you ruining my daughter’s party?!” she said sarcastically. “How bold of you to enter this place…”
I bit my lip hard, trying not to lose my respect over her.
“Gabriel, bring Alessandra to your room so she can rest. I’ll take care of this,” Marcus firmly ordered Gabriel.
“No, I’m fine, Marcus. If anyone has to go, it’s Meredith!” she exclaimed.
Marcus didn’t say anything. Now, I know the feeling of being accused as a mistress. This is what she actually do on women who gets close with Gabriel. I’m not surprised because this is what I expected from her.
“Meredith, what’s happening in here?!” Mom said, walking beside me.
“Why don’t you settle this problem alone? There’s a lot of guests here, you’ll cause a scene!” Alessandra’s mother said.
“No! She deserves being humiliated! I accepted you in my house and truted you fully, but I’d just find out that you want my husband?! How dare you?!”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about! You’re misunderstanding it!”
But she only gave me a smirk. Her innocent face turned into a wicked one. Like she’s sure of her accusations.
