CHAPTER 56 STUCK

Book:Two Wives Published:2024-5-1

I gave a nervous glance at him. “Aren’t you afraid of us getting caught?”
He chuckled innocently at me and ignored everything that I’d just said.
I shook my head at him. Holy fuck! This is fucking ridiculous. Is this what he’s planning? To make me his mistress? Oh, hell yes! This is what I’ve been planning, but I never expected that this will actually happen.
“Don’t worry, I take my work very seriously. Alexa knows how professional I am when it comes to work,” he said in a gentle tone, hinting something.
I nodded and gave him a curled lip and casually averted my gaze upon him. Why can’t I stop myself from giving meanings to his words?
“Let’s go…” Gabriel covered my hand with his.
My breath hitched a little as he started walking, taking me with him. I can feel my heart slowly melting at his warm hands.
I was cowering my head as we. I feel so small at the way people looked at me. I felt like we are so far from each other although our hands are intertwined.
I sneakily glanced at him. He looked like someone that belonged on the cover of a magazine. I can’t help but to take notice of his lips and how soft and plump they are. He was far more attractive than I had expected and I felt like I was nothing in comparison.
I shrugged everything off and racked my brain. I chose to focus my attention on the path. We entered a conference room where a man in suit greeted us.
“Good afternoon, Mr.” His voice was low and serious.
Gabriel nodded before beaming at me. “Hunts, take Meredith to the other room,” he ordered.
“Yes, Mr.”
“I’ll be back after an hour…” he said to me with a thick of promise. He left my eyes and fixed his polo and hair.
My mouthed parted slightly. I had planned to say something but my words seemed to be lost. In the end, I saw myself nodding quietly.
Shouldn’t I supposed to be there because I’m his secretary? I shook my head down, I guess I’m not really needed in there so I just came with the man named Hunts.
We arrived at a suite near the conference room.
“Please wait for Mr. here. If you need something, I’m just outside the door,” he informed before bowing formally.
“Thank you… Hunts!” I gave him a smile before he left.
But then, I thought if something.
“Ah, Hunts?”
He turned ti me, is eyes and attention were completely on me but his expression was unreadable.
“Do you need something?” he said without so much immersion.
“Why do you only call Gabriel as Mr.?” I shrugged my shoulder a bit to make him see that it’s not really a big deal.
I saw him moved his lips before returning to his usual serious face.
“That’s what he wants to be called. Do you need something else?”
I slightly pouted my lips. “None. Alright, thank you…”
He nodded at me and left the room. I remained wondering. I noticed that the employees call him that, even in Galla via.
I smell something suspicious here. The manager in Galla looked like he’s avoiding me.
I let out a loud sigh, trying to relieve my confusion. Maybe I’m just giving too much color to these little details that I start to overthink.
I sat upon the wooden chair as I overlooked the sea from the balcony. The sun is still at its peak. I’m sure swimming right now might cause me sunburn.
I smiled when I thought of Zia and Kesha. The two of them loved beaches. i always take them to beaches whenever I’m free at weekends.
I remembered the sweet smile on their face and how bubbly they are, even in the simplest things such as playing in the sand, they’re already contented. I regretted that I didn’t visit them before I left Queensland.
I expelled the tension forming in my chest. I don’t want Iseah to reach the moment that he’d blame me for keeping the truth from Gabriel. I massaged my temple.
Even if I don’t admit, I know that I should be the one to take the blame of why our problems went bigger. If I just told them from the start, Mom and Dad shouldn’t have decided to engage me to Ellwood. I shouldn’t have done this, pretending like I’m not hurt seeing my own husband with another woman. And lastly, there’s no need to play the role of a mistress, even for the fact that I am the legal wife.
My eyes snapped open as I heard the doors open behind me. I stood up when I saw Gabriel enter the room.
“Meeting is done…” he said as he closed the door slowly.
“Ah–ahm…” I simply nodded as a response.
Ten minutes and the meeting is already dismissed? I gasped and stared at the beach.
What now? I whispered within myself as I overlooked the sea from a distance.
“Let’s go, where going somewhere,” he said. I turned to him wherein I saw him opening the door and waiting for me to enter the room.
“Where are we going?” I can’t help but to ask.
“We’ll go sail the boat,” he said.
I stiffened. What the hell? Just earlier, I almost died while were in the yacht, and now he’s planning to sail a boat?
“Hey, are you alright?” he asked softly.
My eyes flashed with worry when I turned to Gabriel. I don’t like the idea of sailing the boat with just the two of us.
“What’s the matter?” he asked again.
I faced him with the pair of eyes that made my soul quiver. It seems like there’s no need to tell him what I’m feeling as it can already be read in my expression.
“I get it,” he said.
I gasped heavily and tried to look away but he didn’t let me. He grabbed me by the hand and tilted his head a bit.
“What made you scared of the water?” he asked at the small distance between us.
“I should ask you the same question…” I said under my cold breath.
He didn’t say anything, he only stared at me as I slowly shut down my self to his reply.
“Hunts already prepared the speed boat. It’s the perfect weather for sailing as the wind’s still thin…” his voice trailed off, evidently ignoring what I said.
Before I could even protest again, he already pulled me out of the suite. Like what he said, Hunts was already waiting for us when we arrived.
“Enjoy your day, Mr. Sean is there to assist your arrival.”
Gabriel nodded at Hunts and turned to face me.
“Let’s go…” his voice was soft yet filled with so much authority at the same time.
His grip on my hand was tight, as if not letting me escape once I attempt to.
My feeling were all over the damn place. My heart is hammering hard against my chest, beating rapidly. My eyes were on the seashore while the speedboat’s already running. There’s no choice but to go with him.
We’re at the middle of the sea. The waves were still calm as it was just a quarter past three in the afternoon. But thinking of the fact that we can’t reach for anyone’s help in case of emergency gave fear to my heart.
I glanced at Gabriel, he’s the one maneuvering the speedboat. I don’t remember him being knowledgeable in driving these kinds of vehicle. He was more on farming in the past.
In spite of how tensed things are with us. I can’t help but to find him ridiculously hot right now, the way how he maneuvered the boat effortlessly. I felt grateful that he has his sunglasses on for I can never look at him like how I do right now if he doesn’t have those on.
I flinched from my seat when the engine suddenly stopped, so as the speedboat.
“Gabriel, what… what happened?!” I stood up abruptly that made the boat move.
“Oh, shit!”
I lost balance and held onto his arms tightly. Every muscle of my body just froze when I felt the heat of his hand over my waist.
“Are you okay?” he said as he lowered his head to look at me behind his glasses.
My breath immediately hitched after I realized what I just did
