CHAPTER 48 SWIM

Book:Two Wives Published:2024-5-1

I was trapped and dazed, I could feel my heart race for a moment. I wanted to stop feeling this way, but it’s slowly escaping, aching for romance.
“Hezekiah…” my lips said.
I couldn’t recognized my voice anymore. It was late when I realized what I said. His forehead creasedin confusion. I quickly averted my eyes away from him.
“You called me what?” he asked seriously and never left my eyes.
“I–I’m sorry… I was just, tired..” I said, eyes on the ground.
He abruptly grabbed my arm and stared at me in disbelief. “Hezekiah, I heard you called me that name.” His face was a whole question mark as I felt his grip getting tighter.
I chuckled slightly and shook my head. “I want to rest, just lock the door when you leave…”
I harshly pulled my arm away from him. Not looking back, I entered one of the rooms and locked the door.
That was close, Meredith. It was the perfect time to confess that I’m his wife but I was scared. I don’t know what his reaction will be. I’m scared of the possible effects his brain might feel if I push him to remember his past. It can damage his brain and memory even more.
I can’t help but to think if he got any check-ups after the accident. Does he know that he has amnesia? What if they intentionally hid Gabriel from his real identity? If that’s true, then I guess Gabriel wanted it too… to forget and move on from his past. To start a new life.
No, that can’t happen. I will take what’s mine. I won’t let them take my husband away from me, especially the memories we hold dear.
The exact time for lunch came. Wearing a black shorts and a white shirt, I got out of my cottage to go to the open and public cottages where I spotted Alessandra and the others.
“Meredith, you’re finally here! I was about to send Gabriel to pick you up. We thought you’re still sleeping,” Alessandra said.
I took a quick glance at her. She wore a white bolero with a black swimsuit underneath. Her figure sat well with her wasp waist and wafer thin body. Her legs are long and sexy that are made to perfection. I deeply regret wearing such an offbeat dress. I should’ve wore bikini…
I glanced at Gabriel who’s beside Marcus, both of them seemed serious while conversing.
“I’m sorry. I’m really not feeling so well,” I slowly said and tried to paint a smile.
“Well, we should swim those negativities away!” Deborah remarked.
“True! And also, there are lots of hot guys out there,” Ximenah said playfully as she pointed the beach.
My followed where her fingers are pointing before smiling timidly.
“Girls, let’s eat first. Stop with those boys!” Alessandra interjected.
They stopped talking and focused their attention on the food that the waiter had served.
“Wait, I’ll call the two so we can eat,” Deborah said and walked towards where they two guys are.
My eyes followed her. Gabriel turned his face at my direction, he’s now wearing his sunglasses and an open polo shirt with white sando shirt underneath. His black shorts and black low-cut shoes complimented each other.
“You have a husband, right?” Ferry asked and she stared at me with her slightly arched brows.
“Yeah…” I replied.
“Hmm, so where is he?” she asked again. She eyed me first before nodding slightly.
I quickly glance at Gabriel who’s currently walking towards us. “He’s on a long trip…” I muttered.
“Trip?” she repeated.
“Yep, on another country. Until now, we haven’t met Meredith’s husband.” Alessandra interrupted, she placed some food on my plate before smiling.
“Really? So your husband is an OFW?” she surveyed me with close scrutiny.
“Yeah, something like that,” I almost choked. My eyes darted at my food because of Gabriel’s presence.
“Love, let’s eat…” Alessandra told him.
I fixed my eyes on the food although I know he’s sitting in front of me. I didn’t bother to join their conversation and casually ate my food, listening to them without interest.
The lunch wasn’t complete without the alcohol. The chats were elongated because of the drinks. I also can’t stop myself to steal a glance at Gabriel everytime he pours me whiskey.
“Thanks…”
The moment he felt my gaze upon him, he lifted his brows and slowly shot me a glance that shivered my nerves big time. Under his gaze, his eyes drifted towards the exposed flesh of my tender neck.
I snapped out of his gaze just like that. I leaned my back on my seat as I listened to their slightly heated conversation.
“Really, Zachary bought a resort here?!” Ximena exclaimed.
“Yes, I actually invited him to join us today…” Ferry stated excitedly.
I noticed Alessandra’s silence at Ferry’s topic but I chose to focus on my food.
“Who’s Zachary? I always hear him as your topic,” Marcus interrupted, he turned to Deborah, forehead creased.
“Uh, he’s one of our clients!” she bluntly emphasized before turning her gaze to Alessandra.
“It would be good to meet with him. Is he your big time client recently?” Gabriel asked.
“Yeah. Actually, he’s also our client when we went out of town last month,” she added.
I noticed Gabriel glancing at Alessandra before nodding. “Good. I want to thank him personally for patronizing your business affair,” he said then he shrugged a bit.
The rest of the meal passed in a blur. I think I drank too much for my own tolerance, so when the Zachary they’re talking about arrived, I didn’t had the chance to even notice him.
“Let’s swim!” Deborah invited while pulling Marcus.
Ferry stayed at the cottage with Zachary while Ximena went with Deborah and Marcus.
“I’m glad to finally meet you, Mr. Magnus! Sandra talks a lot about you back when we were at Paradise Island.”
Gabriel nodded, he remained emotionless while holding a glass of whiskey.
“You know what, he’s also planning to build a resort near San Marcelino,” Ferry said with a smile.
“It’s good to hear that. But that place is not really developed yet. People rarely go there, too,” Gabriel stated.
He leaned his back against the chair and proudly stretched his arm and put his hand over Alessandra’s shoulder.
I glanced at Zachary who’s watching them. His jaw clenched at the sighrlt and looked away.
“I want to thank you. It seems that you get along with my wife and the business really well,” Gabriel casually said and smiled a bit.
“Yeah, no problem,” Zachary answered before sipping his alcohol.
Gabriel’s eyes went down on Alessandra who’s currently silent.
“Let’s swim!” Ferry wrapped her arms around his big torso and pouted her lips sweetly.
Zachary nodded his head and turned to Gabriel’s side. “Well, see you around. Thanks for the drink. Next time, I’ll be the one to treat you,” Zachary said and averted his gaze to Alessandra. “Thanks for inviting me.”
Alessandra then raised her head at Zachary. “Our pleasure, Mr. Enriquez,” she softly said then smiled.
“Alessandra, follow us in a bit, okay?” Ferry told her with a smile before leaving us.
They were gone, but none amongst Gabriel and Alessandra talked. I bit down my lip. I wanted to leave them and give them their moment but I felt like my head is about to crack in dizziness.
“Do you know that he’s planning to build a resort in San Marcelino?” Gabriel finally spoke up.
“No, I only heard of it just now from Ferry,” Alessandra quickly said.
