CHAPTER 29 HIRED

Book:Two Wives Published:2024-5-1

I FILLED my lungs with glassy air and gripped my shoulder bag tightly. I looked up at the tall building in front of me, at the same time my heart was pounding.
I didn’t notice the critical look of the employees who just passed me by after looking at me.
“Ma’m where are you?” a security guard stopped me from trying to enter.
“To the president’s office,” I answered timidly, not taking my eyes off the luxurious office.
“Ah, any appointments ma’am?” he asked again.
I turned my gaze to the information desk, before answering. “I’m the new hired secretary of Mr. Gabriel Magnus.”
The guard frowned, “Ah, just wait ma’am, I’ll just check,” he polite answer before leaving me.
I gasped, I would not have refused Alessandra’s offer to take me here. I just don’t want the employees to give a different interpretation of my coming here with the owner of the company, especially since I know that even if Alessandra doesn’t tell me that she only let me in here to watch Gabriel.
“Ma’am, you can come in…” The security guard approached me.
“Thank you,” I smiled sparingly and went straight inside.
Immediately someone greeted my woman who I think was in her late fifties. She looks very firm and proper wearing black slack pants and white collar blouse dyed with eye glasses.
“Daliah Torres, the manager of Real steel incorporated and you are?”
“Meredith Grant.” I raised my right hand to give her a warm hand shake but she refused, instead she openly visited my whole being. I was wearing a white long sleeves under my beige trench coat and black skinny jeans. I gather my hair into a loose ban and brushed a light of make up to enhance my simplicity.
I smiled before shyly lowering my hand.
“Follow me…” She ordered before turning hr back on me. I reluctantly followed her and immediately headed into the elevator.
“The office of Mr. President is at the fifth floor,” she said tonelessly and I nodded.
In less than a few minutes, the elevator door opened. She
immediately came out and I followed her until she stopped at a wide door in the capital hallway.
She knocked then gently pushed open the door. That’s when my heart jumped with excitement.
“Mr. President, Miss Grant is here,” he said, while my feet remained outside the door.
“Please come in, ” he said in a baritone voice. My heart beat faster because of his deep voice.
“You may come in…”
I clasped my hand tight, and nodded. She also left me when I first followed her with a look that quickly disappeared into the hallway. I took a deep breath first before stepping my feet inward.
I couldn’t even get my eyes around inside his office because my attention was already focused on the man right in the capital of the room, sitting comfortably at his swivel chair.
His vision was focused on me, I felt naked because of the way he looks at me. I could not speak immediately. I was dumb full speechless.
“Didn’t bother to say anything Mrs. Grant?” he spoke in a cold tone.
“Good morning. Mr. President.” My eyes drifted to the ground, unable to hold his mysterious gaze.
“Bring those papers to Marcus, I need his approval before lunch time.” with all his might he dropped some papers on the table before stooping over his laptop.
“Uh, yes, Sir.” I step towards his table and as I get closer I become even more deaf to the strong beating of my heart.
When my feet stopped in front of his desk to pick up the papers he never looked up again. I turned around to start the work when I heard him speak again.
“Cancel all my appointments today, I don’t want to by disturb anyone,” he said, still not looking at me.
“Yes, Sir,” I answered.
Before leaving I glanced at him with attention still focused on the device.

My strides were fast-paced after exiting Gabriel’s office, hugging the folder that’s ought to be delivered to Marcus.
I was in the middle of walking when I suddenly stopped. “Where is Marcus’ office again?” I looked back at the office where I came from before shaking my head repeatedly.
“Oh, fuck!” I cupped my forehead in frustration. I forgot to ask where department Marcus is in.
I wandered my eyes around. Ah, I’ll just ask anyone I’ll pass by.
I continued walking and turned my head from side to side but there’s no cubicle as I passed by the elevator. Gabriel occupied the whole floor, that’s what I thought.
That’s why I entered the elevator once again and pushed the first floor button. While descending, I can’t help but to think about what will happen in the coming days. Everything happened so fast, I still can’t believe that I’m now Gabriel’s secretary.
Truth be told, I didn’t have any experience with this kind of work because I am the boss of my own company. Before Zekiah came into my life, my name was written in almost all of the properties my family owns. They are only waiting for me to sit at the chair but I didn’t pick that life, instead I picked the life with Zekiah. Mom and Dad had no choice but to give the presidency to Ellwood in which I should have owned.
I sighed before dropping my gaze to the folder that I’m currently holding. After all that happened, I will still choose Hezekiah, he will still be the only reason for all of this—even if it’s hard. I won’t care how painful it is, I can accept it all just to be with him again.
I straightened my stance when the elevator opened, I passed by some employees. Everyone shot me a knowing look, their eyes shifted on my shoes and back up again with curiosity.
I offered them my soft smile, but no one smiled back. I shrugged a bit before walking towards the information desk.
“Ah, excuse me!” I delightfully said to a woman in front the table.
She raised her gaze at me before staring at me, her lips wavered a bit and stared at my clothes, up and down. Is there something wrong with my clothes?
“What do you need?” she said in a small voice.
“Where can I see Sir Marcus’ office?” I asked softly.
I creased my forehead when her eyes dropped into the folder I was holding.
“Uh, I’m Meredith Grant, I’m Sir Gabriel Magnus’ new secretary.” I introduced.
“New secretary?” she spoke in her tiny voice. I smiled, I thinks she’s in her twenties because of her angelic face and her tiny voice.
“You can walk straight to the hallway then go right, that’s Mr. Dimefelix’s office,” she said.
My eyes followed the direction she pointed before returning my attention to her, “Thank you—”
“Rheena Sanchez,” she sweetly introduced herself. She smiled at me, and so I returned her smile.
“Thanks, Rheena.” I waved her goodbye before turning my back at her.
While walking, I can feel some of the employees’ eyes, I can also hear their chatters but it’s not audible, considering the distance. I slowly turned my head to them. They stopped talking before looking at me in distaste.
I lightly shook my head, the nervousness slowly surfaced in my heart. What exactly is happening here? I can’t stop myself to feel cold while I’m walking close to Marcus’ office.
When I turned to the right, I saw a room in the middle of the hallway. There also sits a table and a woman outside the door.
“Ahm, excuse me. I’m looking for Mr. Marcus Dimefelix?”
Her eyes raised at me. My gaze immediately fell into her red lips and her fitted white V-neck shirt inside a cream pastel blazer.
She arched her eyebrows at me and gave a malicious remark. “Are the the new secretary of Gabriel?” she asked with mockery.
I simply nodded, not minding her unprofessional attitude towards me.
“Tss… poor Alessandra…” she whispered. But I know it was meant to be heard by me.
“Excuse me?” I asked her with my furrowed brows.
“Ah, nothing… Just wait here for a minute, I’ll call Marcus.” She stood up from her seat, a reason why I got to stare at her image more. She has a very impressive body, a height of a model, and a corn-colored hair. If I’m not mistaken, this is the Sarah that Alessandra meant. I can’t blame Alessandra on why she’s jealous of Gabriel’s secretary, but if I compare them, I can say that Alessandra is way more beautiful than Sarah.
