Esmeralda
Beads of sweat and tears enveloped my face as I found myself on the floor.
The confessions were like a bomb that exploded right before my face, throwing me off balance, and making me brush the floor.
My chest stung with pain and my lips trembled with silent cries.
How could Lucy do that to the ones I loved?
How could she?
Not like I even know her personally, but her actions were about to ruin my life completely.
Or maybe it has ruined it already because I would be mateless if Alpha Kade rejects me.
It was a small world indeed.
I lay still on the floor, sniffing back my tears and wiping my nose while contemplating what to do.
My life was a mess.
“That night, Jade lost her parents and Madam Dora lost her only child. She is left alone. Thanks to your cousin,”
“You better face the fact, you have no friends,” Alpha Kade’s harsh words stabbed my heart, ripping it to shreds, “To burst your bubbles, after that night, the whole Pack wanted justice,”
“You won’t tell them…” I gritted my teeth in a threat, but it came out weak.
“News travel, dear mate,” He spilt remorselessly.
Just great!
Now Jade, Madam Dora and Amelia will hate me with passion.
And the pack.
I just wish there was a tiny piece of wisdom in their heads, where they can understand things from my point of view.
Not as a killer, but as a friend.
I knew they wouldn’t want to trust me anymore and Vanessa would probably laugh to scorn at my ugly fate.
I mean, who makes friends with someone that has psychopaths as a family?
Anyway, I hope they forgive me.
I know I haven’t done anything to hurt anyone, but I hope they forgive me.
“You’ve done your worst then, release her,” Emerald spat with authority, taking control while throwing me behind the walls.
“What the fuck are you doing, Emerald?” I tried to take control but she slammed me back.
“Well, well, look who we have here,” He said in mockery, walking close to the cell, “Someone finally has a wolf,” He teased, igniting anger within Emerald.
Emerald growled at his words. I could feel my hair slowly turning strawberry and my eyes glowing green.
“Do it!” She ordered, ignoring his deadly and powerful aura.
“Make me,” He challenged her, holding Selene firmly as if she would escape from his grip.
Tension hung in the air as the two arrogant wolves challenged each other.
This was getting interesting…
I’ve never seen someone order the Blood Alpha.
Let’s see who would bend to whose rules…
Alpha Kade or Emerald?
“I won’t repeat myself,” Emerald growled as she bled of power, authority, arrogance and pride.
Perfect match for Alpha Kade. The Moon goddess paired right as power met power in the cell.
“Fine!” Alpha Kade said in surrender, avoiding Emerald’s gaze, “Your pride stinks,”
What just happened?! Did Emerald boss Alpha Kade?
Were my eyes deceiving me?
“Leave us,” She commanded, watching him sternly as he turned his back at us, before heading toward the door.
He halted briefly, “I will be back, be ready for me,” He continued walking, “Until then, Emerald,”
The door closed with a bang and I heaved a sigh of relief.
Emerald retreated in my head and I took full control.
“As much as I find that scary and risky, how did you do that?” I asked in amazement.
I couldn’t stop replaying the scenes in my head.
Unlike Emerald, I was weak.
It wasn’t my fault, I had been bullied and intimidated all my life.
Maybe if Emerald was in my life earlier, I won’t be defenceless and treated like thrash.
“We are different, Esmeralda. I’m tough and powerful, nobody can intimidate me,” She replied sharply.
“Your pride really stinks,” I complimented before my face twisted in a smile.
“Esmeralda!” Selene rushed at me, hugging me tightly at once before she broke down in tears.
“I thought he hurt you, that son of a bitch!” She cursed before burying her head in my neck, “He didn’t hit you, right?” She asked in a shaky voice.
“He dares not!” Emerald growled impatiently.
“No, he didn’t touch me,” I confirmed. A heavy sigh of relief rolled off Selene’s lips.
“Goddess! You’ve lost weight! Only three days and you’ve… What have you been feeding on?” She asked.
“Don’t worry about me, Selene. I’ve accepted my fate,” A sad feeling washed through me.
“Don’t say that,” She said, wiping my teary face with the back of her palm as she helped me sit.
That hospitality. I missed it.
The bond between us grew stronger as she cuddled me. I could feel it.
“Are you hungry?” She asked, making me raise my brow.
“In this ugly situation, you are asking if I’m hungry? How would I be hungry when my life is turning upside down right before my eyes?”
“I know… but you need to eat something,” Her hands fumbled with her dress for a while before she brought out scones, croissants, cakes, and doughnuts from her pocket.
“How did you…” My gaze flickered from the pastries to her, “How did Alpha Kade not catch the scent?”
“I’m a witch, remember? I masked the pastry’s scent. And I stole them from the kitchen. I had the feeling that you would be hungry,”
Tears hung in my eyes, “Thank you, Selene,”
“Anything for you, Esmeralda, anytime,”
“What did you really do to him that made him throw away the romance you shared?” She asked, reviving the pain in my bleeding heart.
“According to him, there was a massacre in this Pack years ago that took the lives of his family, Jade’s parents and Madam Dora’s child. It is also responsible for making Amelia the way she was. He linked it to my cousin who pretended to love his brother, only for her to try to get rid of them all,” I explained in the little way I could.
Goddess, I hate remembering it!
“This your cousin… do you know her? Because you didn’t tell me you have a cousin,” Her face creased in worry.
“I don’t,” I murmured.
“Then this doesn’t make sense!” She flared, “Why would he punish you for what your cousin did? It’s nonsense!”
“He feels since she did it, and my sister is a psychopath, I would also do worse. He feels it runs in the family and I have come to finish what Lucy started,”
“That’s not good. Especially when our friends are involved. What are you going to do?” She asked.
“I don’t know what to do, Selene. Maybe I should just die,” I lamented, throwing myself carelessly on the bed.
Her hands held me firmly, “Don’t think like that, everything will be alright. Alpha Kade will come around,” She tried to pacify.
“But you don’t have to do this…”
“Do what?”
“You don’t have to stay with me here. It’s not nice here. I don’t want to drag you into this with me. It doesn’t concern you,” I said, moving away from her.
She had endured a lot with me, I didn’t want to put my burden on her.
“Go out and live your life, Selene,”
“There is no life without you, Esmeralda. You are my sister and my best friend. Whatever happens to you concerns me. How do you even expect me to be happy out there when I know you are in this hellhole?”
I broke down in tears at her words.
It wasn’t mere words, Selene meant everything she said.
“I know you are not like the rest, you are not your sister, neither are you your cousin, you are a good person,”
“Thank you,” I said amid tears, ” I am so glad that you understand. If only Jade and Madam Dora understand …”
My remaining words hung as the door flew open to reveal the last people I wanted to see.
Blood drained from my face as my face turned white as if I just saw ghosts.
Fear surged through me, leaving me shaking like a leaf as Jade, Selene and Madam Dora made their way into the cell with expressionless faces.
My death has come!
