Phoebe
It was a perfect windy evening.
The perfect day for Esmeralda to die.
The sun was slowly retreating, giving room for the presence of the moon that caused a glow in the sky, leaving the sky in shades of pink, white, blue and orange.
The wind moved in rhythms, filling out ears with beautiful serenades as it ruffled dried leaves on the floor.
The birds weren’t left out too as they filled the air with their melodious songs, entertaining us with their pleasant rhymes.
I turned my gaze to meet Esmeralda who was watching the moon keenly, admiring the beauty of the evening as the gentle wind ruffled her strawberry-coloured hair.
She better enjoy the moment while it lasted.
She should be grateful that I fed her eyes with the beauty of nature… Even if it was the last thing she would be seeing before her eyes closed in death.
At least, she should be grateful to me.
I wouldn’t lie, the sight was breathtaking. It captured my attention, almost making me forget my mission.
After the last incident, gaining Esmeralda’s trust was a difficult nut to crack that came with a lot of convincing.
For months, during our separation, I kept cooking up plans to end her miserable life.
But thanks to my convincing words and my sweet innocent smile, I now have her at the back of my palms, to do my bidding. Like a robot controlled by a remote.
Since having evening walks won’t kill her, shifting would kill her.
I would make sure of it.
Since she was a werewolf and she was of age, I would make her have her first shift…
And I will make sure it was her last.
“The view is so beautiful from up here,” She broke the long silence, slightly closing her eyes and taking her hair from her face that got ruffled by the wind, “I could watch this forever without getting bored,”
I could watch this too, except I had a lot of things to do on my bucket list.
Including killing you.
“I told you, sunset is very beautiful, especially watching it from the top of these hills,” I smiled, taking her hands in mine and pulling her up, “It’s what I used to do when I am alone or bored or overwhelmed. And it helps to calm me. It always does,”
Silence hung in the air again as we got carried away.
I flinched the moment her head rested on my shoulder.
I wasn’t comfortable with the close contact.
It filled me with a gush of emotions.
“Before we forget the reason we got here, let’s do it quickly so that we can watch the sunset later,” I suggested, pulling her hand.
“Can we come back tomorrow? Please sis,” She begged, giving me a puppy face, “I can’t just get enough of it,” Her eyes met the cloud again before they rested on me.
Emerald green eyes.
“Please,” Her lips folded in a cute pout.
That is if you will see tomorrow!
“Sure, we can come here anything,” I smiled.
“Thank you,” She engulfed me in a hug before pulling away afterwards, “You are the best sister ever,”
“Am I?” I asked in shock, frozen at her words for a few seconds before regaining composure, “I mean thank you,” I said when I found my voice.
The same gush of emotions flooded my veins, making her heart pound nervously.
She almost had me rethink my plan.
Why did I feel my heart skip for a second at our embrace?
We’ve always embraced, but why does this one feel so… special.
“It’s because she will soon die. Don’t let that get to you,” Kruella’s warning echoed in my head at once, blocking the flow of the strange emotions.
What was wrong with me? How was she able to switch my mood so easily with just one hug?
I am Phoebe. And I don’t do emotions.
My emotions were dead.
“So, let’s quickly get to it,” She said, holding my shoulder, but a shrug from me let her hands drop to her side.
Get your filthy hands off me, you fucking thief!
I walked on the hills, studying them from the top. A small smile crept on my lips when I peeped to see the depth of the hill before my eyes caught a small cliff that hung at the edge.
There was no way in hell she would survive that fall.
“Where are you going?” She walked up to me with a confused face, “You said we will be quick about it but you are taking time,”
“Quick about what?” I asked in a harsh voice, enveloping her in more confusion.
“The shift…. you said you will help me… with my first shift since the full moon… was today,” She stammered, creasing her brow in worry and confusion.
I could feel her heart beating rapidly.
“Oh, I said that?” I asked, feigning surprise and moving to the edge of the hill to make her come closer to me.
“Is this a joke or what?”
Fear radiated through her. It almost oozed out of her in a thick cloud of smoke.
I love it when she reeks of fear.
“It isn’t, sweetheart,” I walked up to her, turning her around and making her back the edge of the hill.
We are almost there.
“I lied,” I said calmly, flipping my hair in between my fingers.
“Why would you lie to me? I thought we were good and you promised to be a better sister,” She sniffed, shaking her head as drops of tears hung in her eyes.
“I lied about that too,” I let out a dark chuckle before it faded quickly and was replaced with a dark sinister look
“But why did you do that?” Her voice trembled in fear as she took two steps away from me.
“The question here should be, why did you ruin my life?” I said in an outburst, breathing hard as I was consumed by my own anger.
“Ruin your life?” She repeated, creasing her brows in confusion.
“You ruined my life, Esmeralda!”
“Your existence brought an end to my perfect life. You see everything was going smoothly before you showed up and took what was mine,” Anger filled me to the brim as I gritted my teeth.
“I never took anything. I always ask for permission before taking any of your belongings,” She said in defence, earning a brief laugh from me.
Stupid bitch!
“You are so dumb, Esmeralda. And you trust people like a fool. It’s a shame that you’ll die dumb because dumb people don’t live long,” I made my way slowly at her, while she took a few steps till her feet met with the edge of the hill.
“Maybe Father did not explain to you. But I was supposed to have that colour of hair and eyes and powers that you possess. I was supposed to be the firstborn but your existence took what belonged to me, but now, your death will return it to me, the rightful owner,” I smirked dangerously, watching how she turned to look at the hill and back at me.
She was trapped now.
And there will be no mercy.
“Waiting for a miracle? Sorry, there is no one to save poor Esmeralda. You will die today and I will see to it,” I clenched my jaws, raising my hands to push her down the hill.
“Please, Phoebe, I beg you in the name of what you love the most, please,” She screamed breathlessly.
“I don’t love anyone,”
“And dad?” She sniffed, wiping the tears that dropped down her cheeks.
“Stop wasting your time. I don’t love Dad, he is a traitor. If he hadn’t slept with your slutty mother, you wouldn’t have had the chance to come into this world,”
“But don’t worry, I will make your death swift. I’ll end your misery in the blink of an eye,”
“No! This is not you,” She screamed in desperation, her lips trembling with tears, “What will you tell Dad this time?”
“You think Dad will be spared? None of you will be spared for ruining my life. You all will face my wrath, including your slutty mother,”
She was keeping me in conversation, delaying her execution.
But I was done talking.
“Leave my mother out of it. It’s me you want, take me instead,” She screamed desperately.
“With pleasure,” My lips curled in a dangerous sneer before kicking her chest with my large dark boots, watching her stagger till she lost balance and fell down the hill.
I walked to the edge of the hill, lowering my gaze to meet Esmeralda who floated in the air, raising her hands to meet mine and screaming her lungs out.
Confusion crashed on me in waves the moment her eyes shone brightly, and she stopped falling and floated.
Her hair colour shone brightly, spreading in the air… and her eyes were blazing in Emerald green colour.
Fuck!
Sabrina was right. Her warnings echoed in my head.
“… but if she senses danger, those powers would manifest prematurely. And it could result in your death because she doesn’t know how to use it or control it. You have to be careful,”
Fuck!
I wasn’t careful enough.
My patience wasn’t enough.
What do I do now?
“This is not good,” Kruella’s voice trembled in my head.
Somehow her hands found the cliff and she managed to climb to the top of the hill in a blink of an eye, staggering to balance on her feet.
My eyes darkened in raw rage and my blood boiled furiously.
I didn’t care if her powers were manifesting. I was going to get rid of her.
Without hesitation, I took a log of wood lying on the floor and hit it on Esmeralda’s head several times, till she lost her balance, but she didn’t fall
On my seventh attempt, the stick hung in the air, unable to move as Esmeralda had her eyes glued to it as she stood on her wobbling knees.
Her fucking powers were activated.
In a flash of light, she dashed out of my sight with her head soaked in blood.
Bastard!
I let out a challenging growl, declaring war before charging after her in a hot chase.
She made the wrong mistake coming here
And by the time I was done with her, even in death, she would never forget me in a hurry.
I am Phoebe. No one messes with me.
And no one takes what’s mine without paying dearly with their lives!
