CHAPTER 12 VISITOR

Book:Two Wives Published:2024-5-1

I PUT everything I bought on the oak table one by one to double check the list. And arrange it in the cabinet and some in the fridge. I chose to just open the can beans so I wouldn’t have to cook.
My legs were still high sitting on the couch while holding a bowl of rice and can beans while facing the flat screen TV when someone suddenly rang the doorbell.
I stood up to hear the knocker and was very surprised at the unfamiliar face peeking out of the gate. “Good afternoon, who are they?” I asked curiously.
“Is Gabriel there?” His question to me. He is wearing a white long sleeve shirt and black jeans, he is also wearing sunglasses and the car is parked in front of the gate.
“He’s out, who are they?” I asked again. There he dropped to look at me before taking off the sunglasses. He had a tousled black hair, which was thick and lustrous. His face was strong and define. A prominent jaw curved gracefully and his eyes were dark brown. His eyes looked familiar but I can’t remember where I saw him.
He lowered his head, “I’m Marcus Dimafelix, you must be?”
“Meredith Grant.” I introduced myself.
“I’m their new housemaid here at home.” I simply added, because he has a dimness it seems to dazzle my eyes with the white of his complexion plus the sunlight hitting him.
Nor did I escape examining him in my entirety and ultimately in my face.
“What’s your name again?”
“Meredith Grant.” I utter again.
He didn’t speak at first, obviously still thinking about what to say because of the way his lips were pressed to mine.
“Come in first, Sir.”
“I’ll just call Gabriel first, I’ll just wait inside my car.” he replied, then without looking back heturned away from me.
Surprisingly, I just ignored that and closed the gate again to go back to eating. A few more minutes had passed since I heard the car horn from outside.
Gabriel’s car arrived so I hurried out to open the gate.
His dark eyes greeted me, I felt like he wanted to do it to me because of the kind of stare he had.
“Why don’t you let the visitor in?!” He started telling me from the car. He also slammed the door closed so hard that I was barely flinched.
“I invited him inside but he refused.” I explained. He looked even darker, so I suddenly backed away, I even looked at the man earlier who now had the car in the garage as well.
“I don’t need your explanation!” he grumbled, eyes having knife in my heart.
“It’s alright Gab, I refused to go inside.” The man interrupted the conversation we had.
“Let’s get inside.” he added, then glanced at me a little before entering the house first.
Gabriel remained standing in front of me so I could not step on my feet.
“Have us prepare food in the backyard.” Gabriel ordered me, then turned away from me. I swallowed first before I followed them inside.
“Nice home.” I heard Gabriel’s male visitor say.
“Yeah, I bought this house a few months ago before we got married, just a little renovation is okay” Gabriel replied.
I turned into the kitchen so I couldn’t hear what they were talking about. It’s good that I just bought some so I decided to make them a bacon sandwich.
“Why don’t you bring Abie here?” I heard what Gabriel said to Marcus. I was walking towards them in the back of the house when Gabriel spoke.
“Next time,” Marcus said to Gabriel.
“Here’s your snack, Sir,” I said politely. That delayed their conversation since I put down the bacon sandwich I made and pineapple juice on it.
“Thanks.” Marcus told me, his voice came from the deep well. I couldn’t recognize his voice. It seems like it wants to mean something especially the way he looks to me.
“Can you give us some wine instead?” Marcus requested. He looked up at me from sitting down so I was immediately overwhelmed.
“All right,” I utter, I slowly backed away and turned around to leave.
“Alessandra and I plan to bless the house, maybe next month, because she’s still a bit busy at an event.” Gabriel said.
“Glad to hear that.” Marcus replied.
I went back inside and looked up the Wine rake to select wine. I choose Cabernet Sauvignon a noble grape variety. It’s one of my favorite drinks so I’m sure they’ll love it. I hurried back out to lay the wine I had chosen on the glass table.
“A wine from Bordeaux, best choice.” Marcus said, he looked down for a moment, pouring himself a drink and bringing the wine to his lips.
“How’d you know that wine?” Marcus asked me with his serious voice. I immediately rolled my eyes at him because it was forcing me to read my reaction.
I lightly shook my head, “I just pulled that over to the Wine bar.” I Instantly replied and looked away.
“Hmm,” he nodded.
“You can go right back to your work.” Gabriel interrupted us so I barely backed away.
“Thanks, Meredith.” Marcus said, I simply smiled at him. I went back inside to start cooking dinner. I don’t care about the time because it’s still too early, so I thought of cooking menudo and roasted chicken, after all there are guests so it’s better to cook two dishes that they will definitely like.
I started slicing vegetables to feel the footsteps entering the kitchen. Gabriel came inside, opened the fridge and took some bottled water and slowly turned his head to me.
“What do you cooked for dinner?” he asked.
He opened the cabinet to get a glass and sat across from me. “I will cook menudo and roasted chicken and veggie salad as well,” I murmured.
“Hmm…” he didn’t comment, and chose to drink water from the glass. I barely stopped cutting for him to watch for a while. I can’t help but to swallowed hard.
I blinked, when I heard the pounding glass at the table. “I want you to cook your best menu, I don’t want to embarrass my brother-in-law,” he commanded, the intensity of his gaze on me was still the same after he didn’t say anything to get up to leave the kitchen.
