Esmeralda
The deafening screams of a high-pitched voice ruined my beauty sleep.
My God, I was about to kiss Alpha Kade in my dream!
Our lips were so close that we took in each other’s breath.
His plump lips were about to consume mine, but thanks to the screams, everything went in a blur.
Hissing loudly in irritation, I turned to my side, covering my head with a pillow, to block the screams, but it didn’t work.
Nothing worked.
I just wanted to drift back to sleep and continue kissing Alpha Kade’ in my dream.
Was that too much to ask?!
As if that wasn’t enough, a loud knock sounded on my door, spiking my anger.
I growled loudly in disapproval, “Go away!” I yelled, burrowing further into my bed and curling myself up in a ball to resume my sleep.
The knock grew louder and more persistent, completely ruining my mood.
It was like the person was sent on a mission to break my door.
Whosoever that person was, I hope he is happy that he just ruined my morning.
“Who the hell is that?” I barked, throwing my anger at the unknown person.
Unable to hear anything as my hearing ability was not sharp, I crawled out of the bed, reluctantly getting to my feet and walking to the door.
The door opened to reveal a distressed-looking Jade and Amelia who kept blasting my ears with her unending screams.
I wondered if she had a migraine after screaming.
“Esmeralda, we have a situation,” Jade announced before hurrying into my room and shutting the door behind her.
“What is the matter?” I asked, massaging my temples.
“She won’t eat, she won’t sleep, she won’t do anything aside from screaming, crying and pulling her hair. I’m so exhausted,” Jade lamented, hitting her palm on her head before pointing her index finger at Amelia, “She is so exhausting. I have tried everything, but nothing seems to work,” She paused, catching her breath, “I don’t think I can handle her anymore. I am a little close to collapsing right now,”
“Is that so, Amelia? Have you been stressing Jade,” I turned to ask Amelia, but I got louder screams in response.
Great. Just great.
A long sigh rolled from my lips, “You may leave, Jade,” I stated, resting my gaze on Amelia.
“Yes, Luna,” She submitted, bowing briefly before heading to the door.
“I’ve told you, Jade, call me Esmeralda. Luna makes it seem formal. We are friends,” I tried to convince her, but no matter how I convinced her, she wouldn’t hear of it.
I was sick of her calling me Luna and bowing to me, it made our friendship formal as she began to consider herself as not in my status.
I really missed the old Jade. The way we had fun together, ate together, cooked together and even gossiped together.
But these days, Jade seemed withdrawn, even if she kept denying it, her actions screamed it.
It all began a few days after she confirmed that I was Luna.
The respect increased, breeding a wide gap in our closeness.
We no longer spend quality time together like before.
I missed the old Jade and I wanted her back.
“Of course we are. But you are Luna and I have to accord you that respect,” She began, justifying her actions, “If I don’t, Alpha Kade will…,”
“I’ll tell Alpha Kade that I instructed you to call me by my name,” I interrupted, trying to convince her, “You don’t have to worry about him,”
“It’s not just about that,” She paused, glancing around before taking a few steps away from me, “We are not in the same status again. You are Luna and I am just an Omega, your servant. We are different,” She said in a whisper, wrapping her hands around her small as if protecting herself from me.
“What is wrong with you, Jade? Why are you talking like this? Have you forgotten that I am an Omega, just like you? I am just lucky to be Alpha Kade’s mate, that doesn’t mean we are different,” I walked closer to her, but she took steps away from me, refraining me from coming close, “We can still be friends, Jade. Don’t push me away,” I said, swallowing hard to stop the tears from pouring.
“I am not pushing you away, I just want to give you the respect you deserve,”
“By stop being friends with me?” I asked, my heart racing with emotions.
“We are still friends, but maybe I just need a little more time to think. I’m sorry,” She said before shutting the door, leaving Amelia and me alone in the room.
“Jade?” I called, but it was too late.
She was out of my room already.
Tears pricked the back of my eyes at the realization that I had just lost a friend.
The pain surged through me, piercing my heart.
For a few minutes, I was lost in thoughts.
I was so engrossed that I didn’t realize that Amelia had stopped screaming. Her round sad eyes watched me keenly as she was rooted to a spot like a statue.
Her mouth was sealed shut, but her lips trembled.
Despite not being able to talk, I knew she could comprehend what just happened.
And she was sad because I was sad.
It was an open secret that the both of us bonded well.
In less than a week under my care, she showed signs of improvement.
She hardly ever leaves my side. We were glued to each other.
But she doesn’t talk. She could spend the day staring at the wall, waiting for me to come to her.
“I guess that was a goodbye from Jade,” I sniffed, wiping my tears with the back of my palm, “She was really a good friend to me. I will miss her so much. I’m just sad it had to end this way,” I said to Amelia, pulling her close, but her loud wailing threw me into a state of confusion.
“Why are you crying? Please, don’t cry. It doesn’t concern you,” I pleaded, but her wailing didn’t stop.
“Stop crying, Amelia. Please,”
Confused and frustrated, I drew Amelia close to me and sang a lullaby.
I didn’t rush, I went with the flow, letting my soft sonorous voice do the magic.
In no time, her tears turned into sniffs and soon her soft snores filled my ears.
A smile played on my lips as she snuggled closer to me like I was her shelter.
She looked so peaceful in her sleep, so innocent. I could watch her forever.
“Sorry, Luna,” She said amid sleep.
It felt so good watching her sleep talk.
Despite how tiny the voice sounded, it kept ringing in my head, I couldn’t take it off my mind.
“Did she just talk?” Another voice asked, its echoes bombed throughout the room.
Alpha Kade?!
