Kade
“Let me help her,” She pleaded, fixing those honey-brown eyes on my gemstone green ones. Those eyes, beautifully sculpted, shaped like an almond.
Those alluring eyes had me glued to them, leaving me dazzled as they glowed under the bright light.
I couldn’t deny that those eyes were beginning to have an effect on me. Their beauty struck me, drowning me in their mysteries.
Those eyes.
They were amber, they were rare, and they were attractive. I could watch them all day.
“Please,” She said in a whisper, with a voice that sounded like the pleasant chirping of a bird, singing its morning song.
I had to do something before I got lost in her voice too.
“You can do nothing,” I muttered before grabbing the first aid box and leaving the room, shutting the door behind me carefully.
I was afraid I would lose myself before her.
Standing outside the door, I dropped the box on the ground, caring less whether the content spilt or not, luckily it didn’t spill.
“Let me help her,” Esmeralda’s words flooded my head, opening my heart to the emotions I’d once locked away.
But how?
What special skill did she possess?
What powers does she have in bringing Amelia back to her senses?
“If you let me, Alpha Kade, I can help her,”
Why does she sound so sure?
She was just an Omega. She was as helpless as Amelia.
A bitter scoff rolled off my lips as my back crashed into the wall.
No matter how hard I try to laugh at those words and erase them from my head, they find a way to regain their standing.
“Let me help her,”
It was a waste of time.
Even the best doctors in the world couldn’t do anything to save Amy.
As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I knew Amelia can’t be healed. And it was a tragedy that she will be like that for the rest of her life,”
My heart squeezed tightly at the remembrance of her shabby appearance.
Once appeared in the best apparel, now appeared in rags.
The new Amelia. The ghosted Amelia.
I bit my lips to stop the incoming groans from slipping. I bit it so hard that I could taste my blood, but I didn’t care.
The pain couldn’t be compared to the bitter taste of sadness that burnt my throat.
I had shut her up in the wing thinking I would forget her, but those memories were impossible to be wiped off.
“You look handsome, Kade, if you don’t mind, can you help me select some dandelions? I am having a hard time doing it,” I could still remember her excited voice in my head as she ran up the stairs with a bouquet of dandelions in her hand.
I had always made fun of the flower, but now, I didn’t mind walking around with it in my head if that would bring her back.
“Can I sleep in your room? I’m scared of sleeping alone. The horror movie I watched is messing with my head,”
“Look, Kade, I drew you. Do you like it?”
“You move like a sloth, Kade. I can dance better than you,”
“Kade? Are you free? I’m bored, let’s hang out,”
“Let’s play a game, Kade. You will lose woefully to me, I promise,”
I bit my lips again, taking harsh breaths with my eyes shut as memories I had with Amelia flooded my head, without mercy.
At once, I hated myself.
I hated myself for neglecting her. I hated myself for leaving her side the minute her life was in danger.
If I had stayed, I could have saved her… I could have saved them.
Even if it was at the expense of my life.
Damn me!
Breathless in self-resentment as my jaws trembled with trapped cries, I let out a shout, caring less that anyone could hear me.
Amelia didn’t deserve it. She didn’t deserve what happened to her.
She just wanted to be happy, for everyone to be happy.
She wanted to be an artist. And she wanted to spend more time with me and make everybody proud. To make her favourite big brother proud. To see her walk down the aisle with her mate.
But I failed her.
I’m such an asshole!
“I’m sorry, Amelia,” I sniffed, almost breaking down in tears.
But I wouldn’t cry.
Tears won’t solve anything. Tears couldn’t bring back Amy.
Overtaken by anger and raging resentment, I balled my fist, hitting the wall behind me continuously without caring if it would collapse or not.
I could feel the wild anger that surged through me like a madman.
I needed something to help me… this anger was consuming me.
I was about to give the wall one last heavy punch before Esmeralda’s voice reached me.
Fuck!
Did I wake her?
I didn’t want her to know what was happening to me.
I rose to my feet, wiping the stained blood off my lips and composing myself. Quietly, I opened the door once more, allowing the sweet scent of vanilla and lavender jasmine take over my senses.
My gaze landed on Esmeralda who was now asleep but shivering.
What was wrong with her?
Her small frame was exposed to the cold emanating from the air conditioner and her tiny clothes didn’t help.
Walking over to the bed, I pulled the sheets over her, covering her to stop the shivering.
A feeling of satisfaction swept through me as I watched my mate sleep peacefully, without being disturbed by the cold. The lovely sight picked my interest and the steady breathing of her heart was like fine music to my ears.
Without thinking, I lowered my body on her till my eyes were resting on her flawless face, admiring it.
It was safe to say, Esmeralda was beautiful.
I let my thumb caress every inch of the soft skin on her oval-shaped face, her cheeks, till it stopped on her plump pink lips.
They sat perfectly on her face, calling me seductively.
Lips like poison.
My heart raced at the sight of them as my thumb brushed over those seductive lips, this time, it was like I could hear them as they called unto me to get bitten and sucked.
Grabbing her head gently, not to wake her, my head lowered to meet those tempting lips and my lips stood only a few inches from hers, almost brushing them.
Stop it, Kade!
Get hold of yourself. What are you? Fifteen?
Reluctantly, I let go of her, walking out of the room before I get distracted by her and do something irrational.
I grabbed the box laying on the floor and headed to my quarters, but this time, I took the route I dreaded the most.
The North wing.
My greatest fear.
I wanted to see Amelia, and how she was faring. I missed her and it hurts badly that she was in there all alone, staring into space while I had a life out here.
The most painful part was that she didn’t even recognize me. It hurts badly that I was now a stranger to her.
“Don’t do it, Kade,” Tyson warned, but I blocked him immediately.
I didn’t care if the demons in my nightmare haunted me again. I didn’t care if Tonight was the night I was going violent on myself.
I just wanted to see my sister.
My heart pounded heavily in my chest, so loud that I could hear my heartbeat as I touched the door knob.
It wasn’t dusty, compared to the last time.
Slowly, I turned it, almost pushing it open when a familiar voice echoed throughout the hallway, making me flinch.
That was unexpected.
Even without turning back to see who it was, I could recognize that aura anywhere.
That power.
“Alpha?!” Silvius gasped in shock, “What are you doing here?” He asked, walking close to me, his eyes didn’t leave mine.
His aura filled the room, replacing the tension, but so were the questions on his mind.
“What are you doing here, Alpha?” He asked again, his eyes, demanding answers from me.
“Nothing,” I said coldly, I wasn’t in the mood for Silvius’ unending questions.
Why did he have to ruin the moment?
“Nothing?” He asked in disbelief, narrowing his gaze at me. I could sense his doubt.
Doubting Silvius.
“Yes. Nothing,” I replied, walking away from the door, fixing my eyes on his, “What are you doing here?” I asked, diverting the question.
“I came to give you reports. I’ve been searching for you everywhere, but you were not there,”
“Report about what?” I groaned inwardly.
Not now
I wasn’t interested in any stupid reports.
“The rogues and the Dark Moon Pack. I learnt that they formed an alliance and they are planning on invading the pack together. That guy in the dungeon told me, “He explained with worry and anxiety in his voice. And so was the fear.
Why was he afraid?
They could come in thousands.
“Okay,” I replied boredly, walking away from him.
“Okay?” He mimicked, arching his brows, “Alpha, it’s the pack we are talking about. You can’t just sit back and watch what you’ve suffered for crumble before you,”
“I don’t care, Silvius. I’m not in the right frame of mind. I want to be left alone. Just get the able men, get Lukas and do the needful,”
“Okay,” He said, bowing briefly
“You will like this one. It’s about that Esmeralda girl,”
A dangerously low growl escaped my lips at how he addressed Esmeralda, making him stop briefly, and giving me a strange look before continuing.
“You know I have been researching about her because I don’t trust her. Well, I found out that she is an orphan. And she once lived in the human world,”
“Hmm”
Not now, Silvius.
Nothing picked my interest at this moment.
“Are you alright?” He asked, touching me briefly after noticing the change in my mood.
I had to tell him.
A sigh slipped from my lips, “I don’t feel good Silvius. I am not myself anymore. I’m sorry I can’t help you this time,” I paused, watching him as he digested all that I had said
“I can feel it, Silvius, I can feel it bubbling in me. It’s almost time. I am bloodthirsty. I can feel that incoming outburst of violence stirring up in me,”
“No Alpha. You don’t have to give in to it…”
“It’s happening, Silvius. It’s freaking happening again like it happens every year. I’m afraid I can’t stop this one. It’s so powerful and I need you to help me as you have always helped me,” I pleaded desperately, my trembling hands grabbing the collar of Silvius’ shirt as I watched the pain in his eyes.
Don’t feel pity for me.
I deserve it. I deserve the pain.
“One more thing, Silvius, get Esmeralda away from me. I know how curious she can be,” I warned, leaning on the wall, groaning in pain.
It was almost time and in a matter of hours, I would go violent. And just like Amelia, I would become a threat to everyone.
