Esmeralda
The rest of the day went in a blur as I resumed my duties and avoided Vanessa at all costs.
To the Moon goddess, that bitch was trouble!
Securing another room with Jade’s help, I couldn’t help but be grateful, even if the room was not as luxurious and as spacious as the pink room. It was sparsely furnished, with the basic things I needed and a few dresses.
Although I was a bit disappointed that the room wasn’t up to my expectations, I quickly tossed the feeling aside before it began to manifest.
What was I thinking?
That Alpha Kade will give me a master bedroom? Because I was his mate?
I scoffed at my stupidity.
I meant nothing to him.
Speaking of Alpha Kade. He was rarely around, and when he was, he turned mute, refusing to speak with anyone, nor sparing eye contact with anyone, including his Beta.
He was strange. Everything about him was strange.
He was like an open blank book. You couldn’t read him, no matter how hard you tried.
I wondered if his recent attitude started because I wore his sister’s dress and stayed in his sister’s room. But I had left. He was supposed to act normal, but he chose to remain cold.
He chose to be aloof, dangerous, and mysterious. He was with us, but he seemed far away in his mind. And it seems his subjects understood him better. Rather than making him go back to his normal self, they kept their distance, whispering something about how the day was fast approaching.
But what day?
After fruitless attempts of getting an explanation for the gossip and was met with none, I gave up. They wouldn’t spill a word.
They had a thing for keeping secrets in this Pack. And I wasn’t comfortable with it.
I signed wearily after dropping off the cleaning equipment and leaving Alpha Kade’s quarters.
He wouldn’t even look at me or say a word to me.
“I am sorry,” I apologized, but he wasn’t pleased.
What else does he want me to do?!
I could remember his bright green eyes darkening in anger when I whispered my apology to him. But beneath those glares, I saw flashes of hurt.
He was hurt. He was in pain. And he was fighting hard to hide it.
To him, he had successfully concealed it from everyone, but I could feel it.
The feeling was so strong, that its bitter taste burned behind my throat.
“Hey, watch it,” A voice pulled me out of my reverie, jerking me and making me almost land my butt on the floor.
That hurt.
Lifting my eyes to meet Vanessa’s furious ones, my breath hitched and goosebumps blanketed my body at the realization of what happened.
Not now, please.
“Not now, Vanessa,” I muttered silently, praying for her to let me go.
My encounters with her were of no good.
“You should watch where you are going,” She hissed angrily, walking past me into Alpha Kade’s quarters while her ass shook vigorously behind her.
Slut!
“You were lucky I have better things to attend to,” She said before disappearing into his chamber.
Anger and jealousy filled me to the brim as I watched her take those slutty steps into my mate’s chambers.
As much as I wanted to trust Alpha Kade, I couldn’t.
A part of me wanted to believe he wouldn’t have anything with Vanessa. He was an Alpha, he shouldn’t stoop so low to that bitch.
But a part was filled with doubt.
“He wouldn’t stoop low to her,” I muttered, consoling myself.
He better not.
Alpha Kade had summoned her to clean his quarters after dismissing me because I resurrected his memories.
Fighting the urge to burst into his room, I walked away helplessly, struggling to hold back my tears.
I wasn’t going to cry over someone who didn’t want me.
“… I have better things to attend to,” Her words filled my head once more, spiking a feeling of disgust in me.
I also had better things to attend to.
Taking a deep breath as I stood face to face before the North wing, contemplating my decision.
How do I start?
How will I get her out without being noticed because she screamed a lot?
How will I make her believe me?
Jade had said she was dangerous, but will she harm me?
So many questions, turning and shunning inside me. So many unanswered questions.
No matter what happened, I would save her.
I would assure her of my plans to take her away from this Pack, and then at midnight, I would execute my plan.
“Easy peasy, lemon squeezy,” I chuckled, feeling proud of myself.
But where will we run to? Where will we stay after running? We couldn’t risk rogue hunters chasing us.
Fuck!
I hadn’t thought of that.
Maybe it wasn’t easy anymore.
Running away was the most important thing, I will worry about shelter later, the bone of contention was getting her out of this god-forsaken place.
Taking deep breaths and confirming that I was alone in the hallway, I pulled the doorknob and walked into the North wing as quietly as a mouse.
Greeted by the familiar darkness that enveloped the room, a small smile played on my lips as I dug my hand into my pocket and brought out a small torchlight. Though it wasn’t that bright, at least, it was better than none.
I came prepared this time.
I remembered how fear almost killed me when I hid the torchlight carefully in my dress so that Alpha Kade wouldn’t catch a glimpse of it.
Flickering the switch on, the North wing came into view.
Scanning the wing as my eyes danced around the interiors of the room, I was met with a very disorganized room.
The room was a disaster!
Broken tables, chairs and glasses littered the floor. While some chairs were ripped beyond repair, some had their legs broken and tossed aside. Items were scattered on the floor, broken chandeliers sat, eating the dust, while artworks were shattered beyond repair and so were picture frames.
Squatting to get hold of two frames laying on the floor, but recognizing who was in the frame was hard, as they were shattered beyond recognition.
Holding it up and directing the brightness of the light on it, I couldn’t make out their faces, but while one frame was the picture of a man, he screamed royalty, because of his robe, another was the picture of a family because there were many people in it.
Tossing the frames aside, I let my gaze sweep across the room, taking mental note of everything. My hands carefully ran over some items while my legs trod slowly.
The items in the room were covered in dust, accommodating cobwebs, but the room was clean. At least to some extent.
Soft gasps escaped my lips when I saw plates, cups and cutleries scattered on the floor. While some plates had food in them, some of them were empty and some of them were covered. But most of them were broken.
The plates, cups and cutleries were all made of plastic.
Was it because she could go violent?
Despite the appalling state of the room, it reeked of luxury.
The furniture was made of expensive mahogany wood while the huge room was painted in white and gold. Even the broken items weren’t left behind.
Why was this place turned upside down? Like a war happened here?
I needed to know.
Focus, Esmeralda! Focus on your plan.
I would worry about the state of the room later.
Reluctantly taking my eyes off the littered item and dried dark red stains on the floor, I narrowed my gaze, directing the torchlight ahead of me, till my eyes landed on a huge chair, facing the closed windows.
My heart escaped a beat as I trod carefully towards where the chair sat.
Tears threatened to pour from my eyes when I locked gaze with a girl whose lifeless eyes stared at the space, lost in her world, mumbling inaudible words.
Unable to control my feelings, I let my tears drop from my eyes, making me sniff and earning a glare from the strange girl.
“Come to me, touch me!”
