Yawning tiredly and rubbing my sleepy eyes, I folded the last piece of clothing, carefully placing it in the laundry basket and locking the laundry room.
Work was hectic, and the exercises sapped every ounce of my energy, leaving me exhausted.
I craved a bath. A long one.
One filled with lavender, essential oils and scented candles. A bath so relaxing and energy-refilling. A warm bath that would be so peaceful, away from the distraction in this house.
A giggle rolled off my lips at the imagination, making me hasten my steps as I drew nearer and nearer to my bedroom.
I just couldn’t wait.
Maybe I could do some chants, meditate and awaken my powers, which could help me master them while I was in the bathtub.
Urgh!
Disappointment hit me like a ton of bricks at the realization.
I was a powerless witch.
What a shame!
Nothing screams pathetic like a witch without powers. How could I even claim I was a witch without being able to perform some magic?
Fortunately, the members of the Blood Moon Pack were nothing like my former Pack, Crescent Moon Pack, whose pups looked down on me and taunted me because of my identity and because I lacked what it took to justify my identity. Powers.
Nothing about me screams witchy. Except for my high cheekbones, smoky eyes, jet-black hair and killer curves.
And last but not the least, my pair of green eyes that shone brightly whenever my emotions were raging.
“What took you so long to do all the chores? I thought witches had powers and they could make animals, insects and whatever perform simple chores,” I squeezed my eyes as memories flooded my head.
“I even heard witches have some magic that can make chores perform the activities themselves,”
“Show us your powers if you are truly a witch,” I could still hear their taunts and bullies ringing in my ears.
Like it was that easy.
“What do you want to see? She has no powers obviously,” Another bully mocked while the rest of his lot laughed hysterically at the boring joke, “What do you want her to summon? A tsunami?”
“Wait, wait, maybe she wants to summon a dragon spitting balls of fire,” Another round of laughter erupted, moving me miles away from my patience.
“Or a big black cat,”
“Guys,” The leader of the bully called, I could see excitement brewing in his mischievous eyes, “Since it is so obvious that she is not a witch, I was thinking since witch is spelt, w-i-t-c-h and if you take away the w, you would be left i-t-c-h. But you could replace it with a B so that you would be left with a bitch!”
Waves of deafening laughter filled the air as the bunch of idiots rolled on the dusty floor, laughing their ribs out.
“Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch,” They chanted excitedly, leaving me sore with hurt.
A long sigh of relief escaped my lips as the memories vanished from my head. At least, I was free now. I was free from their ugly faces and hurtful taunts.
But I was not completely free.
Despite not being bullied in the Blood Moon Pack, I was still degraded and treated as an outcast since I was not a wolf.
Hatred.
It accompanied me everywhere I went, triggered by the aura of my identity.
Though I acted like I was never bothered, deep within me, it hurt like hell, being isolated from the rest of the Pack, being the lowest of the low.
One thing I craved was a world where witches, werewolves and other creatures lived together in harmony without being looked down on.
But will I ever find one?
I halted, taking a deep breath to calm my nerves. I shouldn’t be thinking of this. I shouldn’t let the ill-treatment get to me, I should look past the hatred and look at the bright side.
Maybe this night was going to be different since I have gotten everything ready. Essential oils and most importantly, scented candles of different colours, thanks to Jade for sneaking some out for me.
This night was going to be different. I could feel it in my bones.
It was a night my powers would awaken since the dreams started. The dreams about my greatness.
A sigh escaped my lips when I turned the knobs to my bedroom.
Finally,
I switched on the light, taking long strides to the bathroom where all I needed lay on the edge of the bathtub.
One thing I loved about the Blood Moon Pack was the personal space it gave its workers, unlike the Crescent Moon Pack where I slept in a cell, bound in chains with guards monitoring my movement.
Thanks to Alpha Kade, Esmeralda’s mate.
Speaking of Esmeralda, I longed to see her beautiful face again.
The distance was killing me, making me worried sick. In order not to fall sick, I took my mind off her, burying myself with loads of work.
How was she faring?
Was Vanessa now good to her?
Had Alpha Kade accepted her?
How was he treating her?
Guilt pricked my heart at the thought of her.
You are not a good friend. A voice whispered in my head.
No! I was.
Several times, I tried to sneak into her wing because the house was divided into two sections, but I was met with guards on duty. The security was just too tight.
Afraid that I might get caught and be punished severely by the Alpha since he hated me, I stopped trying.
Wherever she was, I hoped she wouldn’t get mad at me.
I lifted the scented candles, putting them on parallel lines on the floor. With an almost exhausted lighter in my hand, I flickered the light in vain.
Great!
I couldn’t even summon fire on the candles.
Driven by irritation, I tossed the lighter in my pocket, grabbed the kettle and emptied its content in the bathtub.
Almost there.
I just needed to light the candles and add some essential oils to the warm water.
I walked over to the candles that lay on the floor, probably, mocking my impotence. And with one flicker fire appeared on the lighter.
Grinning from ear to ear as I was about to put the fire on the candles, a loud scream jerked me, making me fall to the ground and the fire hurt my finger.
Alarmed, I rose quickly to my feet, my eyes darting in all directions.
I guess the bathing session was over.
What the hell was that?
Before I got out of my bathroom, another scream tore angrily, vibrating the house to its foundation.
Shaking with fear and anxiety, I rushed out of my room, glowing my eyes to see in the dark.
The agonizing scream tore again, sending chills down my spine.
Though it sounded so clear, it wasn’t from this section of the house.
It was from the other section.
I swallowed the bile rising in my throat as a strange feeling washed through me.
Ignoring the guards on duty as my legs dashed across the hall. It was now or never.
Esmeralda was in danger!
