~Avery~
“Out of everyone, you were stabbed the most. You were meant to doe but somehow you managed to shift though in a very bad condition. You weren’t even in the right environment for a first shift. As soon as you shifted back, it was expected that you’d die out of either the stabs, forceful shift or energy loss but you didn’t. Instead you woke up with a small amnesia. Don’t act stupid blaming yourself for anyone’s death when you barely survived.” Liam scolded, glaring at me like I was some kid. “Besides, you’d get depressed if you do and wouldn’t even be able to comfort Dylan. He really needs you, you know.” he continued, pausing to give me time to internalize all he said.
“Yeah.” I gave my short reply, thankful for the lecture and more thankful for him telling me what happened.
The fact that I wasn’t the one who killed my dad really hurt.
The fact that I was the one who killed Tessa gave me a bit of joy but it wasn’t enough. I couldn’t be happy with Mr. Arthur gone and Dylan falling into slow depression.
“I believe Dylan set me up with you so we’d end this mate thing once and for all.” Liam spoke up as soon as I kept quiet.
I gave him a small nod as a simple answer to his question, watching him, expecting an explanation to why he said that.
“If anything’s bothering Dylan, it’s loosing you to me. I noticed while you were unconscious. Dylan would always stay in your room, talking to you about his day and would act up when I came to visit. It was my fault though. To an extent.” he explained, chuckling a bit at the end.
The thought of the attention Dylan gave me while I was unconscious flattered me to be honest. I couldn’t get the imagination of his talking to my half dead body off my mind.
“How were you at fault?” I asked, chewing my inner gum.
“I felt the mate bond on you and called you mate in front of him. It really messed him up.” he said, laughing at the memory. “He wanted to make a scene at the hospital cause of that but the doctor was able to calm him down by telling him you’d heal faster in a calm environment.”
“Oh” I managed to smoke at his explanation.
“Seeing you on that hospital bed really turned Dylan into someone else at some point…” Liam trailed. “Your bond with Dylan really is something else. Something actually mates could wish for. Maybe that’s why you guys weren’t paired. Maybe because adding a mate bond to what already exists between you two would grow something else.” I rolled my eyes as Liam came up with an explanation to why Dylan and I weren’t mates. “It makes sense acty. Think about it. His love for you was big enough to overshadow the mate bond he had with Tessa, making him unable to notice it.” he keep yarning. “Wisdom.” he smiled at the end, closing his eyes as his pride grew, feeling like he just said something.
I didn’t think too deeply into what he said though. No one really knows if he’s wrong or right and at this point, I don’t think making assumptions would help anything so it’s better I stick to no hypothesis though Liam’s did make sense. I have to admit.
At this point, what was really on my mind was the different ways I could ditch Liam, leaving him alone to handle the bill. I ordered too much for me to be willing to pay.
I had my eyes on the bucket of perfectly fried chicken, sitting in front of me, waiting to be consumed.
My stomach screamed ‘No. It’s enough!’ but every other part of me screamed, ‘Yes! Go ahead!’
“It’d be cruel of me to leave you unattended.”, I said, ignoring my crying stomach and reaching for the chicken wing that laid on the top of the bucket. It was barely away from my reach when Liam spoke up, interrupting the date that chicken was about to have with my stomach.
“Are you sure you’d be able to handle that?” Liam asked, truly sounding concerned.
“We’ll go for a run after.” my wolf suggested, she too, didn’t want the chicken left alone.
“We’ll go for a run after.” I said, agreeing with my wolf then grabbing the wing and taking a bite, almost immediately, moaning at the splash of flavor in my mouth.
“Animal.” I heard Liam say under his breath but chose to ignore. “I meant would you be able to handle the bill. You asked for a lot.” he explained after a while of watching me struggle to consume a bucket of fried chicken.
“You’ll handle it for me.” I said with food in my mouth, ignoring the disgusted glare he shot at me as I swallowed and grab another piece.
“Watching you could give me nightmares.” he complained, with his eyes still on me.
“Then stop watching. Geez.” I gave him the simple solution, rolling my eyes at him always interrupting my feast.
“This isn’t how someone who just got out of the hospital should be eating.”
“Say it again and you’d be the one having to come out of the hospital.” I threatened, dumbing a bone on the table and grabbing a small glass of water, only taking a sip, making sure I left enough space for more food.
Liam watched me, chuckling a bit that how feral I was being. I’d probably look back at this and laugh one day but not today. Today, my whole mood was hungry. “Your company’s a pain relief.”
“Your company is a pain.” I said with a small smile as a frown began growing on his face. I was really beginning to step on his toes. Knowing that amused me.
“You don’t find a Luna eating like this.” he teased, pausing for a second and forming his mouth into an ‘o’ like just remembered something, before finally speaking up again “You’re the last luna of the White Blood Pack.” he gasped, widening his eyes a bit.
“The last for now. There’s another coming after me.” I corrected him, not comfortable with being called the last because I definitely wasn’t.
It confused me how he was so shocked hearing I was the Luna from me when he had heard it before now, from the audio. “What’s wrong?” I asked after a minute of him staring.
“I did a bunch of research whole you were in a comma about white wolf. Your kind is the closest to the moon goddess and you, being Luna, are the closest person to the moon goddess at the moment.” he began with the explanation, gaining my internet as he went on. “So its a natural gift you inherited. You’re able to pick a new make for yourself after getting rejected or rejecting your first mate. All you have to do is choose and make an agreement with your wolf and it’s done.”
