~Avery~
I flinched a bit when I heard Dylan’s voice from behind the door. “Avery?” he called out my name, sounding worried.
“Yeah?” I said, turning to face the door, just to make sure he wasn’t about to open it.
I heard him release a relieved sigh before speaking up again, “Was just checking on you. You’ve been in there for quite sometime now.” he said, nervously.
I smiled a bit at his care before replying, “The water feels great today. That’s why.”
There was a long period of silence, but I could tell he was still standing by the door.
“What’s the problem?” I asked, wondering why he wasn’t leaving.
“O-oh. Nothing. Just standing here.” he said awkwardly. There was something on his mind.
My eyes remained on the door, waiting for the next thing he’d say. “Can I come in?” he asked.
I rolled my eyes letting out an immediate ‘no’
He wasn’t being a pervert, I doubt the thought of me being naked crossed his mind. He just wanted to watch me and make sure I wasn’t doing anything stupid. He really doesn’t think I was ready enough to hear about Mr. Arthur’s death. “Stop worrying! I’ll be out soon.”
“Then we could eat out and go for a run after?” he asked, his voice begging me to say yes.
“Sure.” I said, turning off the shower then grabbing a towel.
“Yes.” I heard him say to himself before leaving the door area.
I took a while to dry myself up a bit before coming out, not surprised to see Dylan lying on the bed with his head facing the ceiling. “Took you long enough.” he said, turning to me before standing.
“You’ve taken longer.” I said, watching him stand and walk to the closet.
“Avery. You were there for hours.” he said, searching his close, probably looking for something I could wear.
“You’ve taken longer.” I repeated, too sure I was right.
He sighed, throwing me a new pair of underwear. “I figured you’d need them so I bought some while you were in a comma.” He said then threw me some clothes.
“How am I meant to wear this?” I asked, stretching out the panties he got me. They were basically just three or four ropes tied together.
He stared at them for a moment, before turning his eyes to look at me, choking on his laugh.
Even while i was unconscious, he thought of ways to piss me off. “Don’t tell you only bought these undies”
“Nope.” he said, popping the p before sticking his head back inside the closet then sticking it back out. Throwing up to sixty of G-string undies at my face.
“They had it in so many colors. I couldn’t pick.” he said, watching them land on the floor before looking at me and bursting into laughter again.
This idiot
I couldn’t guess how my expression was and I didn’t want to. For him to be laughing this hard, it must be pretty stupid and I felt stupid enough.
I watched him laugh for minutes in despair, knowing that as soon as Tessa comes, I wouldn’t be the cause of his laughter anymore. It hurt but I was still happy for him.
“I’ll give you room to change.” he said, whipping a tear that formed in his eyes while laughing then left, leaving the door open.
“Shit” I grumbled, marching to the door and yelling ‘idiot’ before slamming it shut, hearing his laughter grow from outside.
I sighed at how annoying he could be. I’m too sure he left it open in purpose to get on my nerves.
He huge side of me enjoyed how he annoyed me occasionally.
Playing with me when we have so much to worry about. It was kinda comforting. I felt like everything would be okay at the end.
I had no choice but to put on what he brought out for me. Apart from the undies, everything he got me were my style… Baggy. I left the room, following Dylan’s scent to find him. He was in the living room, waiting.
“Great. You’re ready! Let’s go!” he stood up from the couch as soon as he sighted me rushing down the stairs.
“You should arrange the room first.” I said, not wanting to leave the room as messy as it was.
“I’ll have someone handle that. Let’s go.” he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me out.
I didn’t object like I normally would. I was starving.
Within minutes, we were in the car. I wasn’t sure which restaurant we were heading for but at least I knew we were heading for one.
“How’s Tessa?” I asked out of nowhere with my eyes fixed on Dylan to see how he’d react to hearing her name.
His excited expression instantly turned irritated, his grip on the steering wheel tightened and the speed of the car was increased. I could see a vein pop out on his fore head at the mention of his ‘mate’.
I loved his reaction, my wolf clearly detested it.
“Why’re you asking about her?” he asked. I could hear the irritation lace through his voice.
The instant change of the once comfortable atmosphere to a tensed one made me regret bringing up her name.
“Nothing.” I lied, looking out the window, to distract me.
“Why?” he repeated, obviously not buying the lie.
“Nothing.” I repeated, a bit nervous now. I was fully aware he was going to force me into saying the truth later so why not say it now and get it off my chest. “Because she’s your mate.” I started off my explanation, not looking at him so I wouldn’t get discouraged. “You’re going through so much and I can’t help but she can.”
“What are you implying?” he asked. He had already calmed himself down, judging by his voice.
“Instead of… Being with me… I dunno” I struggled saying it but I need to get it over with. “Why don’t you give her a chance. Maybe if you forget about me you’d actually feel the bond with her. She could make you feel better.”
“First of all, she’s not my mate. She’s a misunderstanding or a mistake. Second, no one can make me feel as good as when I’m with you. You know I hate her. You know I’ll never love her so why’re you saying all this?” he asked, not taking his eyes off the road. “Are beginning to doubt that we belong together?” he sounded hurt.
I bit my lower lip, finally turning to him down wishing i never listened to my stupid wolf. “No…” I trailed, feeling guilty for the sad frown he had on his face.
“Then what’s going on Avery?” he asked, parking the car carelessly. I hadn’t realized we were at our destination. At the moment, I didn’t care though my stomach did.
I remained quiet, unable to think of a way to answer his question without worsening the situation.
“You suddenly want to be with Liam? So you want me out of the way by leaving me to handle a beast?” he gave his guess.
My wolf giggled a bit at what he called Tessa, while I had a minor heart attack, hearing his guess of the situation.
“No!” I yelled
“Then?” he forwned turning to me.
“I can’t believe youd think that.”
“What am I supposed to think? I can’t believe youd think that Id be happy with Tessa.” he shot back at me.
“Because she’s your mateeeee.”
“Stop saying that she’s not! Damn it Avery! Tell ke whats on your mind and stop using Tessa as an excuse!”
I kissed my teeth, looking away from him, frowning and folding my hands over my chest while slouching on my seat. “It’s my stupid wolf okay?” I admitted. “Somehow, she woke up and started messing up my head.”
“How?” he asked, looking at me like if he tried hard enough, he’d be able to see my wolf. “She doesn’t like me?”
“You’re not so bad. Just not my mate.”
“She wants to be with Liam. It’s just her though not me.” I explained.
He simply nodded, I could feel the atmosphere clear up a bit. He didn’t seem to care about my wolf problem.
“She convinced me that Tessa was the only one that could fix you.” I explained, hoping he’d understand.
By the way his face lit up, he did. He even had an idea. “Yeah. I do.” he said grabbing his phone and dialing a number. “You love me. I know you do. If you love me, your wolf loves me too. She just doesn’t know yet cause of the mate bond. So take care of that. You and your wolf should make a decision. Choose between me and Liam. Choose who you’d be happy with. If you choose me. Come home… Before dinner. I’ll be happy for you no matter what. I swear.”
I starred at him, not understanding a word he said.
He called the number he dialed, putting it on speaker as soon as the person picked up.
“Hello?” my wolf was already running while at the sound of her mate’s voice
