She had her back against me, I turned her around. And suddenly realize the baby bump was not there. What? Where is the baby? I sat back to the chair, trying to sober up. As I was composing myself, I realized, the girl in front of me was not Elena. It was Mira.
Mira’s POV
I happened to visit the bar which Haden used to go. I was amazed to see that Haden was sitting against the back of the chair, probably too much alcohol had made him restless, and I rubbed my forehead with my fingers. I approached him, “Haden, you’re drunk. Let’s go.” And I helped him get up. Why is this man so drunk? I held him to the hotel room and laid him on bed. I only have my shirt on ready to feel him any moment. I missed this man so much. I don’t care if he’s been calling me Elena or of whoever girl’s name. I missed him and I wanted to feel his touch, to smell his breath and to feel his skin on my skin again. His hands were restless. He turned me around, wrapped his hands around my waist then suddenly, he sat up.
“Mira?!” He hesitated for a moment, then asked anxiously,
“Are you okay? You were so drunk.” I touched his forehead. He pushed my hand away.
“What are you doing?” The voice, clouded by the alcohol, was slightly hoarse, but seemed particularly appealing. This is the voice I have missed to hear for a long time now. Everything, I missed everything about him. Now that we’re on the same room, it felt different. I can feel his awkwardness, it’s like he doesn’t want to be in the same room with me anymore. Maybe he’s now thinking about his wife. But was his wife the reason why he went so drunk tonight? Did the two fought?
Haden’s POV
I sat up and realize, it was not Elena. It was Mira. What is she trying to do? After asking her that, I put on my clothes and Mira looked at me with a confused face.
“I just saw that you drank too much and want to take care of you. Mira explained. “Why are you so drunk? Is there a problem? Did you fight with your wife?” She asked so many questions that I don’t bothered to answer.
“I’m fine. You should not worry about me.” Hastily, I put on my clothes and left the hotel. I hurriedly went home, I still had a lot to explain to Elena. Suddenly, I remembered her face at the office, she could have misunderstood everything. She must be really upset with me now. I didn’t want her to feel that way. I’d also thought of the question I asked her about Lee. Maybe I had offended her but I just want an assurance, that was something that we don’t have.
As I was driving, the scene on the hotel flashed back on me. Goodness gracious, I quickly realized that it was not Elena but Mira. What could have happened there if I hadn’t sobered up? That girl, what was she planning to do? I can’t betray Elena. I promised myself I won’t hurt her.
Back home, it was at 3:00 in the morning. Elena might be sleeping now, I guessed. I wanted to talk to her. We should patch things up. I went to our room and saw Elena on the bed.
Elena’s POV
Haden came back, and it was 3:00 in the morning. I heard the door opened and knew it was him.
I adjusted my breathing gradually, the strong smell of alcohol soon enveloping the tip of my nose, vaguely with a cold scent of his body.
“Come here.” Haden wrapped his arms around me from behind, hugging me near him.
I bit my lip, not knowing what he was about to do. My heart is beating like a drum now. His smell is obscuring me, I am losing focus. Should I talk to him about Mira? Should I tell him about what I felt? How about their picture that’s still on his room? I wanted to blurt it all out on him. But I just can’t.
Once he had my body beside him, his warm breath hovered on my face, a strong smell of wine emanated over, his body glowing with warmth, and he was close. My body begin to burn.
I hung my head and asked him, “Brother, did you drink too much?”
“It’s okay. I’m okay. Elena, we need to talk.” As he spoke, hot breath wafted across my face and I shuddered, my eyes flickering in panic for a few moments. Only to see him suddenly frown and casually tug at his tie a few times, as if that would calm him down a little. Suddenly, however, he turned his head to the side towards me. In a lowered, husky voice, he suddenly asked, in a very tensed tone, “When the baby is born, will you run away with Lee? Tell me. Is that your plan?”
I froze for a moment and then looked over at him, the dim light making his face seem more alive and deeper, the shadow cast by his eyebrows hiding a pair of eyes, dark eyes. His chiseled jaws more distinguished. Why would he ask that? It sounds like a casual question, but when a question like that is asked by him, I get the feeling that he is worried, that he’s worried as if I am really going to run off with Lee. Why is Lee an issue to him? I had never liked Lee more than as a brother. Why can’t he realized that it was him I love? My heart suddenly felt agitated, a little confused, my heartbeat also unconsciously quickened, the warmth of his body enveloping me seemed to make me hotter.
I turned back to him and smirked, “No, there’s never any possibility for me and Lee.” It was you, Haden that I want to spend the rest of my life with, not Lee, not anybody else.
“Really?” He asked, and his tone seemed softer than it had just sounded. I looked at him as his eyes lit up. I nodded my head.
I looked up at him, his eyes were deep, but his tone was so confirmed, I suddenly thought of the tall mountains in the distance, standing there calmly, firm, steady, unshakable. Just like Haden.
“Good.” He replied lightly, closing his eyes and rubbing his forehead. “I’m going to rest for a while now.” There was a hint of relief in his tone. Then he turned over and fell asleep. I just stared at him. I want us to be just like this forever. I want to be the one beside him when he’s fast asleep like this. I want to be the one he will see when he opens his eyes in the morning. I just want to be with him, that is all. I don’t know when and how, but I already fell asleep too.
The next morning, I just opened my eyes and wake up. I stretched myself a little bit. Haden had already got up. I don’t know where he is. I listened if there is any noise in the bathroom but there was none. Soon, the door opened, and I saw him bringing a tray with some breakfast in it. “Oh, you’re awake.” He greeted me with beamed smile. I nodded my head and he turned to me. He passed me some pancakes. I tasted it was a little different from the one Berry had made me the past few days. It tasted much more delicious.
“Berry, today’s pancake seems to be a little different. Did you add new ingredients?” I asked Berry who also entered the room bringing some beverage with him.
“Sure, yes. Mr. Haden got up early to make it special for you.” she said smiling.
I buried my head and continued eating. There was a certain sweetness in my heart. I can’t help but felt happy.
“I have arranged for Lee to go to Wellington. He’ll be organizing some business there, he’ll be the one in-charge of the operations there.” I was interrupted as Haden spoke.
Wellington is a twenty-hour drive from our city. Why would he dispatch Lee to such a far place? And did Lee agree? Suddenly, I remembered what had happened yesterday. This man would really do everything he wants.
“Did Serina agree?” I asked. “Wellington is a far city. Did she let Lee go there?”
“I put him in charge of the finance department, the condition is that he set up a branch in Wellington, I transfer some of my stock to him, Serina all wants him to get a good development. Besides, I know he can handle it so well. So yeah, they both agreed.”
Haden is the big brother of all of us, but is also the family head. Whatever his decision is, I know it is for the benefit of the company. But now, I am suspicious. It must have something to do with what we have talked about last night. I nodded my head. Pondered for a while.
“Are you not happy with the result?” Haden wriggled his eyebrows.
“Will I also be arranged like this?” I blurted out.
