Lucius looked at her like he could not believe what he was hearing. His hand found his way over the table to touch the back of hers. She looked up with a warm smile. “I may be staying for a while. There’s something I have to deal with before I go.”
After seeing what Michelle was up to, Emma had changed her mind and decided to stay. If Michelle was cheating on Lucius, it was possible that she didn’t care about him. The marriage seemed like one out of convenience since both did not seem to care much for each other. Both of them were not happy. For Lucius and Katya’s sakes, she decided to help the couple work on the marriage. If she couldn’t give him the happiness he deserved.
The first thing was to find out what Michelle was up to and put a stop to it. If Michelle stopped seeing another man, maybe she would want to work on her marriage with Lucius. If Lucius had married her, she couldn’t be that terrible to him. Emma wanted to think that even Michelle was redeemable.
“What made you change your mind?” Lucius asked.
“I want to help you and Katya,” Emma said. “I want to help you fix your issues with Michelle. Katya is worried that everything is going to become worse with Michelle as the luna and you don’t seem very happy with your marriage. If I can talk to her, maybe she will be able to work on fixing things. Maybe she’ll be more positive.”
Lucius shook his head and chuckled. “Okay, I don’t know what you’re on but I don’t think Michelle will listen to you or anyone for that matter. She is who she is, and I guess I’ve got used to her nature.”
“Is that why you married her?” Emma asked. “Do you think you’ll be happy with her the way she is.”
“I’ll be happy, as long as you’re here.”
“I didn’t say I was staying forever. I agreed to stay longer. Time will come and I will leave. What will happen then?”
“I don’t know.”
“Besides what happened last time will not repeat itself again,” Emma said. “I’m not that kind of woman. I hope you’re not getting the wrong impression here.”
Lucius sighed and took a sip of his coffee. “As long as you’re here, I’m happy. I have very few friends that I can actually rely on. Having you around will make a big difference but you need to promise me that you will not leave suddenly like you did last time.”
Emma smiled. “I won’t.”
They conversed for over an hour before she needed to leave. During the conversation, she had told him about her experiences at the vampire castle and everything that came after. He invited her and Casey back to stay with his pack in the pack house.
Casey was more than happy to leave the motel. While it was generally cleaner that most of the motels, they had been to, it was still a motel and no one likes motels. Most people only stayed in them due to conditions that could not be avoided. Given other options, they would take them in a heartbeat.
They packed up quickly and put all their things back in Casey’s car before driving to the pack house. While Michelle hadn’t seemed very angry the last time she saw Emma, Emma was sure that the woman was going to be mad this time round. She may have said she was going to enjoy torturing Emma but knowing that Emma dared to challenge her by staying would surely irritate her.
Lucius had gone ahead because he needed to meet up with an alpha of a nearby pack and discuss certain issues. By car, the pack house was just a five minute drive from the town.
“This house is beautiful,” Casey said. “You made a wise decision. Now you better make your way up and be the queen of this house.”
Emma rolled her eyes. “You and I both know that’s not the reason I’m here.”
“I think you’re lying to yourself.”
“Well, that’s crazy because it’s not true. We’re here.”
The guard at the gate remembered Emma so he didn’t ask many questions before opening the gate for them. Emma remembered that Lucius had said he’d speak to some people at the pack via mind link so they would receive them. A young woman with long jet black hair was standing at the yard. When they stopped the car, she started walking towards it. At that very moment, another car pulled into the parking lot and a very angry looking Michelle came out.
“What are you doing here?” Michelle asked, staring down at the two women.
“Alpha Lucius informed me that they will be staying here for a while,” the woman with black hair said, staring defiantly at Michelle. “I was just about to let them in.”
“I wasn’t informed about this and yet I’m the luna of this pack,” Michelle said. “What the hell is going on here?”
“We need a place to stay for a while,” Emma said. “We talked to Lucius about it and he agreed to let us stay here for a few days.”
“You’re not allowed here so better get into your car and drive off.”
“We shall wait for him,” Casey said.
Michelle stepped forward and raised her hand to slap Casey but Emma caught it mid-air. “You will not slap my friend. Didn’t you say you wanted to torture me emotionally because you got the man you thought I wanted? I’m here now. You can torture me but I will inform that Lucius and I are just friends. I just need a place to stay. He is your mate and you’re very sure about your relationship. Why are you acting insecure all of a sudden?”
“Guards,” Michelle said.
While they were talking, another car had pulled in after Michelle’s. Three guards had got out of it. When Michelle spoke, they stepped forward.
“Grab them.”
Before the guards could do it, the gate opened and another car came in. It was Lucius’ car. Emma smiled as he stepped out of the car, but the smile faded when a very beautiful woman came out of the passenger seat.
This time, Emma and Michelle had the same confused expressions on their faces.
