“No,” Emma said, going closer to Katya. “I’m not leaving until this young woman tells me why she’s treating me like this. I don’t think I deserve this kind of treatment.”
Emma had literally saved the girl’s life. Although she had done something wrong, she didn’t think she deserved the harsh treatment.
Katya laughed and shook her head. “Have you heard yourself? You haven’t done anything to receive this kind of treatment?” the girl walked around the room, shaking her head. “You’re something else, Emma Greenfield. You left the pack without saying goodbye to me. How could be so cruel? You knew how much I was getting attached to you but you didn’t care to let me know that you were leaving. I wouldn’t have stopped you know. Sure it would have been hard for me to let go but you didn’t have to go like that. You didn’t even say goodbye to Lucius and now he went and ruined his life.”
“Michelle told me that he married her. I don’t understand why he would do anything like that. What really happened?”
Katya sighed and went to sit down on her stool. She pulled the curtain aside and looked out of the window.
“Lucius was so confused, so angry. He didn’t know what to do. At first, he thought you had just taken a walk and would return any time. But after sometime, he realised you had actually left and might be gone forever so he went ahead with his duty. She is his mate. He did what he was supposed to do. He married her, and they didn’t even have a ceremony because it was so sudden, so fast. Now because of that marriage, Michelle is the luna and everyone’s life is ruined.”
“I’m sorry but I didn’t know what to do after Lucius confessed his feelings. I didn’t want to cause more trouble than I had already done by getting this pack involved in my enmity with Axel White. I thought the best thing was to run away, but I later realised that it was a bad decision. That’s why I returned. I didn’t know that your brother would marry her within such a short time.”
“Well, it’s too late now. No one needs you here now.”
Emma gasped. “So that was all I was good for? To be your brother’s mate replacement? Do I exist just to make everyone else happy? Can’t I think about myself for once?”
Katya started sobbing. “Everything is ruined now. Michelle treats everyone like crap and now we’ll have to live under her forever. Life sucks now and I don’t know what to do anymore.”
Emma knew that she had messed up, but so had Lucius. He was the one who decided to marry her after all. He knew who Michelle was but he still accepted her as his mate
“There’s no need to over worry. Michelle might be the luna but Lucius is the alpha. He is the one in charge.”
“You’re just saying that to make yourself feel better. You’re lucky, you won’t be living under her. I’m the one who is stuck with a wicked sister in law who likes to make me miserable. Now that you know how bad everything is, you can go back to your amazing free lifestyle.”
Emma sighed. “My life is not that amazing and I’m not sure I want to be a rogue anymore.”
“Why?”
“She got kidnapped by the vampire king’s men,” Casey chipped in. “They were going to turn her into a breeder for hybrids loyal to the vamps. That’s how we met. I’m Casey, by the way.”
“What?” Katya turned to Emma. “Are you okay? Did they do anything bad to you? How did you get out of there?”
“It’s a long story but Casey saved us all.”
“The country is becoming increasingly unsafe for rogues and I think it’s better for Emma to be in a pack or go to places with few supernatural creatures.”
“Well if it’s so unsafe, Emma should return and live in the pack.” Katya said. “We all need you. Lucius may have married that woman but he is not happy. I don’t know what possessed him to do it, despite knowing what kind of person she is. He made the worst decision of his life and he has to live with it forever. I see him getting worse every day. I think he really needs a friend. Please stay for a while, Emma. Maybe you can help him figure out how to get out of this.”
“I don’t think it’s a good idea. I think I’m in love with Lucius and seeing him with Michelle everyday would kill me. I don’t think I can do that. Lucius made a decision for a reason and maybe he knows he can deal with it.”
“Please, I’m begging you. I hate to say this but he helped you when you needed it. I think it’s only fair for you to do the same for him.”
“The issue is, would he want me to stay?” Emma said, shaking her head. “Katya, we have to leave now. I will think about this.”
“Where are you going?”
“We’re staying at Cee’s motel in town. I’ll get back to you when I make a decision.”
“Okay. I’ll talk to Lucius.”
“No need. I’ll find him.” Emma pulled out a phone from her pocket. “I got a phone. Could you please give me your number?”
Katya took the phone and started typing in some digits. When she was done, she handed it back.
“Do you have Lucius’ phone number?” Emma figured she needed to communicate with him so she could know the real story before leaving. She had learnt her lesson on proper communication. If she had told Lucius that she was leaving, they might after talked about his life after her departure. Maybe he wouldn’t have made that stupid decision if they had had a proper conversation before that.
“Of course. I’ll type it in.”
