Suddenly, there was a loud banging on the door before it was thrown open. Michelle, Lucius’ mate strutted into Katya’s bedroom without asking for permission. She walked in like she owned it. She was wearing a black top and white sweatpants. She grabbed Emma’s collar and brought her to standing position.
“I’ve had it with you,” she said. “You have to leave this pack right now.”
Katya stood up from her chair. “No, Emma is my friend and she will stay here for as long as she wants.”
Michelle narrowed her eyes. “I’m the future Luna, little girl. In fact, I’m already the luna. If your brother wasn’t so slow, he would have married me already. You, on the other hand, are just a little girl. You need to shut up and listen to the elders.”
Katya rolled her eyes. “Which elders? You?”
“Katya,” Emma said, signaling to the young girl to calm down.
“You’re nobody to me and I’ll not listen to you,” Katya said.
Michelle let go of Emma and laughed hard. “That’s why you ended up getting raped by those vamps.”
Katya staggered back and sat on her seat. “Who told you?” she asked.
“You’ve just confirmed it. I suspected it when I heard that you wouldn’t come out. What else could they have done to you to make you feel a lot of shame? I guess I assumed correctly.”
“How could you stoop so low?” Emma asked and charged at Michelle. She pushed her and Michelle hit a table sending some cups falling off it. Michelle retaliated and pushed Emma who grabbed her hair and started pulling it.
“Stop!”
The two women froze and turned to see Mrs. Bradley who was standing at the door. “Get out of my daughter’s room, both of you. Emma, you’re needed outside.”
After serving each other death glares, the two women left the room. When they reached the hallway, Michelle went up the stairs while Emma descended them. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself down as she went outside. She found two guards waiting for her.
“Alpha Lucius sent us here,” one of them said. “If you’d like to see the prisoner,” he said when can take you there.”
“Of course I would,” Emma said. She couldn’t wait to see the man who had humiliated her behind bars. She could not let the chance pass by. They got in the car and set off on their way up north. As they drew near Sunset pack, Emma started to feel nervous. Her heart began to beat faster as she thought of meeting the man who was once her mate. It was so odd that the one who had been assigned to be her lover had become her number one enemy.
The moon goddess had intended for them to be together but things had gone badly. Thankfully, the mate bond was fully broken by that time and Emma didn’t feel any more pain because of it.
She stood outside the cottage for a while, waiting for instructions to go in. finally, a guard came out and signaled for her to follow him. She followed him through the garage and he led her to a basement. When he opened the door, her eyes landed on Axel White. The big, sturdy man looked so weird looked up in a cage. He was seating down with a cold look on his face. There were two guards standing by the door on the inside. The one who had taken Emma inside turned and went back while the others remained in their positions.
“I was wondering when you’d show up,” Axel said.
Emma raised a brow. “Were you expecting me?”
Axel chuckled. “Of course. You’ve caused all this. I would be extremely shocked if you didn’t come to gloat about it.”
Emma nodded. “I see. Anyway, I couldn’t stop myself. I was quite surprised to hear that the great Axel White had been brought down. Considering how you act, I didn’t expect you to be defeated so easily.”
“It won’t be for long,” he said. “I have friends in high places. I’ll be out before anyone knows it and I’ll destroy these lowlifes who did your dirty work.”
“Well, at least I got what I wanted. My friends are free.”
“But I killed the ones who actually mattered to you. You hated Alison and didn’t care about those three boys. I know you better than you think, Emma Greenfield. It’s why I chose to kill Richard and Tommy. The first one was very satisfying because I did it with my own hands.”
“You killed Tommy?”
“Yes, why do you seem surprised?”
“I always just thought you sent one of your men to do it. I didn’t know that you were there in person. Or wait? Are you saying this just to get a rise out of me?”
Axel shook his head. “No baby. I was there when you found him. I watched you and your friends argue over burying him. You wanted to carry him with you. Your friends said they were leaving but they came back. You were very scared when they were gone.”
“So you were presence I sensed?”
He nodded.
“Why didn’t I know that my mate was around?”
“I had taken herbs that mask my scent. For some reason, I was not able to tell you were mate immediately as well. Maybe it was a side effect of the herbs.”
“Why didn’t you kill me and the others?”
“There was no need. Besides, I needed slaves. Free slaves are hard to come by nowadays.”
“Then why kill Tommy?”
“Because Tommy wanted to take something that belonged to me.”
“What?”
The man smiled. “It seems you didn’t know. I feel bad for you. You risked yours and your friends’ lives for someone who did not deserve it.”
“Tommy didn’t deserve to be killed by you. He deserved my love. He loved me.”
Axel laughed harder. “Oh darling, that man fooled you.”
Emma turned to walk away. “I don’t have time for this nonsense.”
“He was cheating on you.”
Emma froze. She stopped walking. She wanted to think it was a lie and ignore it, but she turned. “What did you say?”
“Your beloved boyfriend, who you risked everything for, was fvcking my sister.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“No, I have no reason to lie to you. If you want, go and ask her, or my mother, or anyone else in the pack. Everyone knew it. That’s why she ran away when I killed him. Your Tommy made my sister reject her mate and I believe it was the reason he brought you all close to my territory, despite knowing how dangerous it was for rogues.”
“No, no, it can’t be. You’re lying to me.”
“Apparently, they met at some party in Springtown.”
Hot tears flooded Emma’s face. She turned and ran out of the room.
