Jane.
Tom was a lanky young man. He was very tall but quite thin. He had a beautiful sweet face and a very nice smile. The first time he smiled at me, I felt my insides warm up. His house was quite messy as it looked like a party of druggies had just ended. The house reeked of smoke and alcohol. It was no place for children but I had nowhere else to take them. While the kids were still unconscious, I quickly tried to clean the house, not for their sake but for mine as well. I didn’t think I’d feel comfortable staying in such a dirty place. If Rody had told me Tom was a mess, I’d have found another place.
Tom was watching me as I worked and since I was wearing very short shorts, I decided to give him a good view. I needed him on my side. People are fickle about kids, even bad people. Anyone who wants kids to suffer is a monster that’s beyond saving. There are not many people like that. There was a chance that tom was not like that. I had noted his reaction when he saw me getting them out of the car. He didn’t look too pleased to see them in that condition. So I had to use my charms to make him look the other way. I had done it before, and I’d do it again for survival.
When I finished, I glanced at him before waltzing to the bathroom. He was staring at me intensely and his eyes had that glazed look of a man who wants a woman badly. I smiled to myself, knowing that this was going to be too easy. After cleaning, I went to the kitchen to see if there was something to cook for dinner. I was disappointed but not surprised to find that the kitchen was almost totally dry. I could hear the kids banging the door upstairs and knew they had awoken already.
“Oh shit,” I said, grabbing a knife before going towards the stairs. Tom shook his head when he saw me and got up from the couch. I thought of killing him but cancelled the idea, knowing it would be detrimental for my plans.
“I’ll go and talk to them,” he said.
“I need them with me,” I said. “I don’t plan on harming them.”
“Let me help you with them.”
“If you let them go, I swear I’ll kill you,” I threatened.
“I won’t, but they’re kids. They need to feel safe. I don’t care what you want them for but you can’t treat young children like this.”
“Okay,” I said, faking a smile.
Reluctantly, I followed him up the stairs. He opened the door and the twins tried to run out, only stopping after seeing me.
Tom glared at me and I saw it as a sign to leave.
“Hey kids,” he said. “There’s no need to worry. You’re safe in this house.”
“She wants to kill us,” the girl said.
My lips parted and I thought of returning to give her what she deserved but I calmed myself down with a few deep breaths.
“If she wanted to do that, she’d have already done it.” Tom told her. “Come with me to the living room.”
The kids easily surrendered to him. So, that was what they wanted. Someone to talk to them softly. I sighed and went on to continue cooking for the ungrateful brats. I cooked as I eavesdropped on their conversation. Tom was actually very good with kids. He kept them engaged and made them temporarily forget their problems. I swear I heard them laugh, which I had never heard since I’d been with them. However, when I took the food to the dining room and they saw me, their spirits fell.
Soon after, we started eating. Tom was enjoying the delicious food I had prepared, not knowing that it was going to knock him out in a few seconds. As good as he was, I didn’t want him causing any kind of trouble for me. He seemed to have formed an attachment to the children and I was almost sure he’d try to stop me doing what I wanted.
“What did you do to me?” Tom started asking. I saw that his eyes were getting hazy. Smiling, I turned to the kids. “Your savior is down,” I said to them. “Now you have me.”
They looked terrified and I was more than pleased. Suddenly, we heard thunderous knocks on the door. I frowned before grabbing the kids and quickly taking them upstairs.
“Open the door, Jane Willow. The house is surrounded.”
I could sense the person speaking was a werewolf. There was a wolf scent that had not been there before. Who had Tom called?
“It’s the police.”
Human police? Werewolf police? Was that even a thing? The kids started beating me when I was looking for duct tape so I knocked them down. I heard the front door fall to the floor and knew it was over. I had to run. I grabbed the girl because she was lighter and opened the window. I gasped on seeing so many police men in uniform looking at me from below. What the hell was going on?
“There she is,” one of them said, pointing at me. In a moment of panic, I tossed the child outside before turning to run back only to come face to face with three police men. I decided to take my chances with the ones outside but before I could jump off, I was grabbed by the collar.
“Miss jane willow, you’re under arrest for the kidnap and attempted murder of two children. You have a right to remain silent. Anything you say or do can and will be used against you.”
“You don’t even know the kids you’re talking about,” I said as they dragged me out of the house. I wondered if the kid I had tossed out was dead. The man dragging me was strong and I could smell the werewolf scent on him. If the kid died, that would probably be my only revenge against Cilla. That was going to kill her.
