Jane’s POV
I fell in love with Ridian at first sight. That tall, muscular man with a handsome face and cool demeanour stole my heart without even trying. I knew I wanted him for myself the moment I saw him.
Some people do not believe that kind of love exists, but I do. They think it’s just infatuation or attraction, but I do not agree. What I felt for Ridian on the first day I met him was love.
I pretended to be scared of him the first time he spoke to me just to get his attention. It was my way of cementing myself in his mind. Sure, when I arrived in the pack, I was broken and desperate. Deep inside, my spirit remained strong and that was why I was able to bounce back in a very short time.
In order to get the attention of that man, I had to be weak. Some men can’t resist damsels in distress and I could tell Ridian was one of them. If he wasn’t, I was going to turn him to one. Just by observing, I could tell that he was a troubled young man with a lot of pain in his heart. I was more than ready to heal his brokenness.
Eventually, he became mine. How could he not? It is impossible for a man to resist a woman like me. Once I set my eyes on something, I make sure I get it. Getting Ridian to fall in love with me was fairly easy. All I had to do was get to know his deepest desires and needs, provide them and he was putty in my hands.
Everything was going well, and I was on my way to becoming the luna when Mark Hubert arrived. Mark was very handsome and had a great body, but he was nothing compared to Ridian Jamison. Besides, he was just a gamma so not comparable to the alpha. I had zero interest in him at first but he was very insistent. The more I tried to resist, the harder he came at me. I think he succeeded in winning me over because I was bored.
He made me realise what a boring life I was living at Blackmoon pack. There was no fun there, save for the occasional parties that we threw. Other than that, life was not really exciting at that pack. Besides, it was too out of the way, too rural for my taste.
I think Mark studied me, and used my deepest desires against me the way I had done to Ridian. He could tell that I was not cut out for the boring life. After listening to Mark a lot, I realised that being the luna of a rural pack was nothing to brag about. It was not glamorous enough for me. All I was going to do was lead a small group of pole and pop out some babies. The more I thought about what life as Ridian’s wife would be like, the more I dreaded it.
Mark came from a pack that lived among the humans in a small town. They blended among the humans and lived like them. If there was one thing humans knew very well, it was to have fun. The vampires were very good at that, too. The towns and cities were full of revellers. I listened to all the stories Mark told me about life in those places and realised it was where I wanted to be. I wanted to have fun and Mark could lead me to it.
With time, I decided to go but didn’t know how to break it to Ridian. He was not going to like it. Mark convinced me that it was best for us to leave without telling him anything and that’s what I did. I fled without saying a word to anyone.
On the eve of my wedding day, I made love with Ridian for the last time when all the festivities were done. We promised to be with each other forever. He asked me to spend the night in his bedroom but I declined the offer. I told him we needed to be apart from each other for a while so we that sparks would fly on our wedding night. Also, I needed my alone time due to the stress of preparations.
Ridian was very happy that day. He thought that his dreams of making me his wife would be fulfilled the next day. I felt bad for him as I closed the door but there was nothing I could do to reverse the situation. My mind had already been made up. I couldn’t stay in Blackmoon pack any longer.
I went to my bedroom, lay on the bed in order to disorganize it and waited till the whole building was quiet before leaving. I removed my shoes to avoid making any noise as I went down the stairs. I put them back on when I got outside and went to the place where I knew mark was waiting for me. Ridian had shown me the part of the pack territory that did not have a boundary spell so mark and I used that route to escape. We went into the forest and walked through it for a while until we found a road. A car was waiting for us.
“Wow, you’re good.” I told Mark. He pulled me to him and kissed me. “For you, I would do anything. My life is about to get so much better.”
“Our lives are about to get better,” I said. Stupid me. Had I known the person I was dealing with, I would never have trusted him. I was about to get to know what kind of devil Mark was.
He chuckled after hearing my words. That should have been my cue to run fast and never look back. Unfortunately, I was too excited to think rationally. All I wanted was to have fun.
We got into the car and mark instructed the driver to drive. I smiled happily as the car cruised down the forest road. “I can’t believe I’m going to live in a city. You are the best, Mark.”
The car drove for about an hour before getting out of the wooded area. We started driving in the middle of beautiful fields and farm houses. Two and half hours later, we went into a town. I stared at the beauty, marvelled by the tall buildings of different types and people wearing clothing of varying styles and colours. This was so much more beautiful than the rural green I had been seeing for most of my life.
“Just wait till you see the cities,” Mark told me. “This is nothing compared to them.”
“This place is so beautiful,” I said, admiring everything. Soon we came to a stop. By that time, day had broken and the sun was starting to shine. Humans were walking around freely, not worried about anything. They had no idea that there were beasts in their midst. How clueless!
We entered a restaurant and had some very nice food. After that, we eased ourselves and got back in the car. The car then drove off to the city Mark had promised to take me to. That journey was full of amazing discoveries that I may never have seen if I had stayed in Blackmoon pack. I had learnt a lot of things in theory but actually seeing them was something else.
The city was amazing and I fell in love with it at first sight. I was happy, and Mark looked happy as well. What more could I ask for. The house Mark took me to be fairly small, nothing fancy, but it was better than the small suite I had at Blackmoon. Mark said it belonged to an uncle of his who had travelled abroad.
“We can enjoy it while he’s away,” he said, having sent the driver away. “Just the two of us.”
I was happy at last. A fun filled life was about to begin, or so I thought. A few minutes later, I would realise that I had made the biggest mistake of my life.
“I’ll show you around,” Mark said.
“Where should we start from?”
I thought he would say the bedroom, but he had other things in mind.
“My uncle has a great antique collection in the basement,” he said. “I’ll show you that first and this tour will end in the best room, the bed room.”
“Sounds good to me.”
“Sure, follow me.”
He led me towards a door which opened to a set of stairs.
“Ladies first,” he said.
“What a gentleman,” I said as I descend the stairs. When I reached the bottom, I opened another door. I took a step inside and immediately felt something hitting the back of my head. I saw the baseball bat as I was falling. My world faded into darkness as soon as my head hit the floor.
