Cilla’s POV
I wanted to leave, but I was not stupid. I knew that I had to take time and plan in order to have a successful exit. Otherwise, it would all end in a bigger mess than the one I’d seen when I tried to escape from Micheal Frey’s pack. I walked along the perimeter wall, touching it occasionally. Every touch sent a surge of hope through my body.
When I reached the part I wasn’t supposed to go beyond without permission, I paused. Looking around, I saw that there was no one in the vicinity. Taking a deep breath, I decided to continue while trying to come up with excuses of why I was there in my mind.
I reached a part where the perimeter wall stopped. My heartbeat skyrocketed as I smelt the taste of freedom. Taking a look around, I tried to step past the boundaries.
“Ahhh!” I screamed as I pulled my leg back. It had started burning immediately it went past the boundary line. I took a few steps back and sat down, then stared at my quickly healing leg. Magic. There was a magic spell along the border separating the pack from the outside. My wound healed fairly fast and I stood up.
If there was a magic spell on the border, it meant that no supernatural creature could pass through it without getting hurt. There was a chance that the spell went on for some meters beyond the border. I had no idea whether the spell was lethal but I didn’t want to look for proof. All I needed to do was find the part of the border that was not protected by the spell. I knew that the main gate was not but it was highly guarded. There was no way anyone could get out undetected.
I continued to walk along the boundary, occasionally testing. With time, the pain of the burn became less intense because the hand I was using to test got used to it. With time, I gave up on testing and just walked along the border hoping for a miracle. I was about to turn back when I heard a movement.
All my senses immediately went on high alert as I looked for the nearest place to hide. I ducked behind a small bush under a tree that had shed off all its leaves. I could feel a presence nearby, and knew that person could probably sense my presence as well. However, I knew I couldn’t outrun whoever it was so hiding was my best bet.
After about two minutes of laying low, I decided to rise and check out the area. In a distance, I saw a pack member whose name I didn’t know. He was standing in a shack behind a small outhouse. Since he was looking in another direction, I decided to run.
I turned and bumped into something hard. I gasped when I realized it was a body, a male body. I quickly detached myself and stood on my feet. My heart nearly stopped when I saw the face of the person I had bumped into.
I could feel my face heating up due to embarrassment and fear. I turned to look at the pack member I had seen at the shack but he was gone. There was no one there.
“You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Alpha Ridian said.
I had no choice but to turn back and face him.
He was looking so good and smelled fresh, as if he had just walked out of the shower. There was a faint glint of amusement in his sharp eyes that were focused on me. His lips were slightly curved and his slight smile looking quite enticing.
I remembered what had happened in his suite and volts of electricity went through my whole body.
“He-e-llo,” I said, stuttering. Had he found out what I was up to? What if there were cameras in the pack? Because of the low tech used in the pack, that had never popped up in my mind. Since we were living in the middle of nowhere, things of technology didn’t come up in our minds.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” He said, the smile vanishing from his face. My fear returned. His mood had changed so fast I was afraid of what he would do to me.
“I’m very sorry, alpha Ridian.”
“Why are you here?”
All the excuses I had thought of when I was starting my walk seemed to have vanished from my head. My mind felt like it was frozen and I couldn’t get any good idea.
“I,” I said, not knowing what to say next. “I needed a walk,” I said, finally. “I’m sorry. I was so stressed out and I forgot that I had passed the mark. That was why I was about to turn back right before I heard some movement. I’m so sorry, I will go back right now.”
“I do not believe you,” he said. “I think you were up to something. This pack’ security is top notch, and you cannot escape without being found out. I can promise you that. It is the reason I’m not very angry that you tried to escape. You can try as many times as you want, but you won’t be going anywhere. So, why did you try to escape?”
I had had enough of pretending and making silly excuses that only made me look like a fool.
“Would you love to be a slave, alpha Ridian?”
He frowned.
“I don’t think so,” I said while looking down. No one can ever be happy without freedom. You know that to. I’m only human, and I want to be in control of my life. That’s why I tried to escape. I’m sorry but I cannot pretend that I’m satisfied with life as a slave, because I’m not. Anyway, the real reason I tried to leave was to try and rescue my siblings from Oakwood pack. There you have it. You are free to punish me for wanting to reconnect with my family.”
After speaking, I looked up and saw his face. Something seemed to shift in it, but I couldn’t tell whether it was good or bad.
