After getting to my room, Cara decided to return back to the main house while I took care of myself. Since I had not been assigned any duties, I decided to get some sleep after taking a shower.
It was after I lay down that I realized just how tired my body was. My brain was so exhausted that only a few minutes later, I had slept off. When I woke up, there was a plate of food and a cup of juice on the table. My stomach immediately growled and saliva increased in my mouth. I sat up, and stretched before standing up. Stepping out, I went to the communal restroom and eased myself. When I returned, I dug in.
The food was delicious, nothing like the trash I had been in that stupid pack run by Vincent and Mirabel Frey. The thought of those slaves made me shudder. And to think that I could have ended up being one of them. I was glad the rogues had got me first. I didn’t think Vincent would have forgiven me and put in back in charge of his daughters. He’d probably have sent me to work with the other slaves and got someone to take care of Dalia and Malia.
Jardon would have been more than happy to skin me alive after what I had done to him that night. Or he would have turned me into his little sex slave which would have been even worse than death. I couldn’t imagine being in the disgusting arms of that vile man. That pack was full of deplorable people. I felt bad for the twins who were going to grow up in such a toxic environment. There was little hope of them turning into well-adjusted adults.
After eating, I took a walk outside. It was getting dark. The air had become colder. From a distance, I saw the seamstresses returning back to their housing unit, followed by the male slaves. I realized I had also missed them and their craziness. Now that I was living at a different side of the pack, those days seemed to be in the past.
They were so happy, chatting and laughing like they had the best day ever. Sometimes I envied their camaraderie and closeness. They all seemed to be such great friends although sometimes they also had arguments and fought about several things.
Turning away from them, I went deeper into the garden. I found a chair and sat on it. I thought of my siblings. I had escaped in order to save them but now I was busy enjoying my life which was unfair. There had to be a way for me to get them out of Oakwood. I just had to figure it out.
A few minutes later, I heard cheery laughter. When the laughter got closer, I listened in closely.
“I love you so much,” I heard a voice say. That was Camilla, Ridian’s beautiful sister.
No words followed after that, only a series of kissing sounds. What kind of man was she with, that wouldn’t even say he loved her back. I wanted to stand up and peer at them but decided against. Camilla was a princess who deserved respect. She may have been a nice person, but that niceness may have vanished if she caught me spying on her. I decided to leave the garden because suspected those kissing sounds were going to lead to some sounds I did not wish to listen to.
I went back to my room and waited for the day to end, a bit anxious of what was going to come the next morning. Was I going back to my old position, or would I be transferred. Last time I was there, Ridian had sold me because he was angry because his mother wanted me to take care of that stubborn little girl Erica.
I smiled. Maybe I could use some of the tricks I had used on the Frey twins to straighten up Erica. Now that I had experience of dealing with such people, I had a feeling that it would be easier. The fact that Ridian had bought me back was a sign that I didn’t have to worry so much about staying in Blackmoon pack. This man was not going to let me go so easily. That mother of his better watch out.
Life seemed like it would get easier. If only I had known that shit was just about to hit the fan. Maybe I wouldn’t have slept so soundly.
In the morning, I woke up early and was in the main house by six. Mrs. Conway, the head of staff inspected all of us and nodded with satisfaction after making sure everyone was in order. Everyone who knew what they had to do left. Maryanne gave me a weird look as she passed by me and went to the kitchen. I couldn’t tell what her problem was. Did she know that alpha Ridian was my mate? Or was she jealous that he had thought me important enough to buy back?
“Welcome back, Miss Markle.” She said.
“Thank you, Mrs. Conway.”
“You will be resuming your last job, helping Elizabeth with Miss Erica. The little girl has really missed you.”
I didn’t believe a single word of that. As if!
“I can imagine,” I said with a fake smile. “I have missed her as well.”
“That’s great then,” Mrs. Conway said with a fake smile of her own. “I think you two will continue to get along very well with each other.”
“Sure, why not?”
“Okay, come with me. I will take you to their unit.”
I stared at her back as she led the way to what seemed like a slaughterhouse for me. Why would Elizabeth Jamison still want me after all the problems it had caused the last time. If there was something I hated, it was getting in the middle of other people’s fights.
Mrs. Conway knocked.
“Come in!”
It was the voice a small girl with a big attitude. It reminded me of the first day I met Dalia and Malia. I had hated them at first sight.
Mrs. Conway opened the door and we stepped inside. The living room was a mess. The table where Erica was eating some snacks from looked like a train wreck.
“Erica sweetie, Cilla is back to take care of you.”
“She can start by getting me some water,” Erica said. “I’m thirsty.”
I took a deep breath.
“Cilla,” Mrs. Conway said in a commanding tone. I started heading towards the kitchen.
“I will see you, later.” She said to Erica before leaving the room.
I opened the fridge and removed a jug of water. Getting a glass from the cabinet, I poured the water into it before putting the jug back into the fridge. Placing the glass on a small saucer, I headed to the living room and set it on the table before Erica.
She smiled and took a sip of the water. “I don’t want this one. Too cold. Get me warm water from the flask.”
My eyes narrowed.
“Why didn’t you tell me you wanted the warm one?”
“I didn’t know I wanted the warm one.”
“Really?”
“What are you waiting for, slave? Get me the water.”
I laughed before going to sit on the couch. “Go and get it yourself, little girl.”
“I’m going to tell mummy about this.”
“Feel free to,” I said. “I don’t care.”
“You are slave. Your job is to do what I tell you to.”
“Sorry little girl. I’m not that kind of slave.”
She stood up. “You’re only doing this because my mommy is not here.”
“I didn’t even know that but thanks for letting me know. Now I can relax in peace. Please change the channel.”
The little girl gasped.
