It was already 9 pm when I reached the bar. I stepped inside the glass door and silently sat on the bar stool, lowering my gaze. I wasn’t here to socialize with someone, but rather to see a certain editor who promised to talk only about work and nothing personal.
I pursed my lips. I remembered that when I had started getting ready after dinner tonight, my husband’s gaze was exceptionally filled with depression. It seemed as if he wanted to stop me, but couldn’t due to some inexplicable reasons.
I applied make-up and used a mirror to see my reflection. After that, I used a pencil eyeliner and mascara to give my eyes a finishing touch. When I was done, Lewis finally opened his mouth. “Are you going out on a date with him?”
I glanced at him in surprise. I knew my husband had been ignoring the fact that I had cheated on him, but this was the first time he said such a sentence in such a straight forward way.
And did he have to imagine the worst thing possible? My lips couldn’t help but twitch. It seemed that my image in his mind had already fallen to the point that he couldn’t trust me anymore.
So I sighed and said, “Lewis, it’s not a date. He said there’s some urgent work, otherwise I wouldn’t have agreed to go.”
My husband remained silent for a while. I couldn’t tell what he was thinking, but he still drove me to the bar sharp at 9 pm and left before saying I should call if he needed to pick me up. For some reason, I felt as if he wasn’t expecting me to come home tonight.
I couldn’t help but feel a trace of loss in my heart. But before I could say anything, I had watched him start his bike and drive away.
A sigh escaped my lips at that memory. Suddenly, the bartender came and handed me a drink. I glanced up and raised my brows.
“You look like you needed this.” The bartender flashed a smile. “It’s a free cocktail.”
I nodded and grabbed the drink. Just when I was about to drink it, I heard two people approaching me and sitting on either side of the bar. I frowned, but I didn’t focus on them. Rather, I continued sipping the drink in my hand.
All of a sudden, one of them deliberately brushed his hands against my shoulders and said in a flirty tone, “Hey there, beautiful, are you alone?”
I frowned. I knew what he was trying to do. I pursed my lips and ducked my head slightly as I pretended to be deaf.
But who knew that these two men were so shameless that not only they didn’t give up, but they also scooted closer to me and began to flirt.
But no matter how close they got, I still kept on pretending I was deaf.
“Hey, don’t ignore me.”
“I’m talking to you!”
The two men each grabbed an arm of mine. I raised my head and glanced at them. My eyes were filled with anger and coldness. But these two men were obviously not afraid of me. Instead, they felt I was a piece of luscious fruit that they couldn’t wait to taste.
I glared at them, but they didn’t even seem to have noticed.
I hate to admit it, but I was a very tolerant woman. I didn’t want to bring trouble to the bar. So I tried to push them away with my hands, but they didn’t even budge.
I couldn’t help but sink into a trace of panic. Their strength was way too much for me to overcome.
At that moment, I heard a deep and cold voice beside me say, “Let go of her.”
When I heard that voice, I couldn’t help but turn to look. Suddenly, Vampire’s angry face appeared behind me as he caught the hands of two men sitting beside me.
I was shocked. I had never seen him getting furious like this! But before I could say anything, the two men whose hands were caught by Vampire glared at the latter. “Let go of us!”
Vampire’s eyes flashed with a hint of coldness. “If you let go of her, I’ll let go of your hands.”
The two men glanced at each other and sneered, but their hands didn’t move.
They were obviously very confident in their own strength. Even though Vampire had caught them, they could still easily break free.
But they didn’t know that Vampire was a master of street fighting during his college days. His grip was as solid as a metal clamp. No matter how much force they tried to use, they couldn’t break free from his grip.
“You’re looking for trouble!” The two men suddenly shouted and got up. They wanted to use their fists to pound Vampire.
I was just about to jump up and stop them when Vampire suddenly made a move.
He turned his head towards me and said in a deep voice, “Elise, I’ll be right back!”
Before I could say anything, he had already dashed to the other side of the bar and began to fight with the two men.
I was shocked. I hadn’t thought that Vampire would suddenly act in such a manner.
It was as if he had completely turned into a different person. He punched those two men with his bare hands tightened in a fist. Veins popped on his neck as he continued to stare at them with his dark eyes. But those men weren’t going to let it go easily. His one single person had hurt their pride. So they were ready to fight back. They also jumped on Vampire with their fists, but no matter how much they tried, they couldn’t be stronger than a certain blond guy. It even seemed as if Vampire’s body was filled with so much energy all of a sudden that others were stunned.
The two men finally realized that things were turning out differently from what they had thought as Vampire’s fists accurately landed on them. They immediately knelt on the ground and begged, “Please don’t hit us anymore! We won’t touch her anymore!”
Vampire narrowed his eyes as if wasn’t going to believe their words. And before he could start a round two of fighting, I immediately dashed toward him and pulled his arms. “Let’s go. Don’t cause trouble.”
I could see everyone’s eyes on me as they looked at Vampire, whose expressions softened when I touched him. I finally sighed and darted his cold eyes at the men on the floor, kneeling before him. “Go back.”
Those two men nodded and got up to run outside the bar, not even daring to glance back. I stared at their backs. One of those men had a cut on his lips while the other’s hands were covered with bruises. This fight clearly took a toll on them, but instead of getting revenge, they rushed outside in fear.
If it weren’t for Vampire, I felt like my night would have gotten even worse. I pursed my lips and lowered my head. After watching Vampire’s angry face when two men flirted with me, I felt a trace of warmth in my heart.
