“What do you mean?” Derek’s tone remained comforting.
Serina was almost driven mad by Derek. ‘I’ve already made myself clear. What does he want?’
‘Why does he brazen it out to keep showing up in my life?’
Derek gave Serina a quick smile pinched her chin, but Serina waved his hand away.
“How come you never change?”
Serina snorted. “Oh? I’ve changed a lot. You never know.”
“Is that so? Then comes a little closer. I want to get a better look at.”
“You!”
“I’ve settled everything in the company. I’ll be free in the next few days, so I will stay with Cherry in the ward. I’m worried about this little girl.”
Derek’s tone shifted to be serious.
Serina looked curiously at Derek. Derek was a workaholic in her eyes, so the kind and sweet Derek was quite weird. He prioritized his business over everything.
This was Derek.
“Why should you worry? Cherry has me, doctors, and nurses. She will be fine, so please leave. ”
Serina spoke in a frosty tone.
“Cherry is my daughter. She’s in the hospital, so of course, I have to come over. Relax! I don’t intend to get back with you,” Derek’s lips sealed into a smile.
After that, Derek turned around and walked towards the ward.
“You!” Serina yelled in anger.
‘What did he mean? Am I the only one to worry about this?’
Cherry was Derek’s daughter. Honestly, she shouldn’t stop him see his daughter. Even if they were apart, she was not allowed to do that.
This messy relationship was going to torture Serina to death!
Cherry saw Derek in the ward and shouted happily, “Daddy! Have you finished talking with Mommy?”
“Yes.”
“What did you say?” Cherry covered her mouth and asked with a smirk.
Derek sat by the bed, picked up Cherry, and quietly leaned close to her ear. “Mommy said she missed me.”
Cherry giggled as she heard this.
Blueberry was distant from Derek. She had not talked to Derek since he arrived. Instead, she sat alone in the corner and read an illustration book.
Cherry noticed that Derek had landed his eyes on Blueberry and looked up. “Daddy, Blueberry does this all the time. The teachers say that she is like a grown-up.”
Derek placed Cherry on the bed. He walked up to Blueberry and squatted down. “What are you looking at?”
Blueberry glanced at Derek. Although she disliked the man, she had to respect others.
“Teddy Bear.”
“Does it good?”
“Not bad.”
“You love reading, right? Have you read Journey to the West?” Derek smiled.
“I haven’t, but Mommy told me about it,” said Blueberry as she rolled her eyes at Derek.
“How?”
“It’s just a story about a monkey, a pig, a horse, and a big beard that I don’t know if it’s a human or a monster. I don’t think there’s anything good about protecting a monk on an adventure.”
Derek was surprised to discover how terrible Serina’s education was on children.
He started to feel panicked.
“So you’ve only heard it from your mother?”
“I don’t want to waste my time on such a book.” Blueberry flipped a page.
“Then do you know where that monkey comes from? And what skills does that pig have? And why are they going on an adventure? Aren’t you curious about what will happen next?”
Blueberry raised her head to look at Derek. Serina wrapped up the book with a sentence, so Blueberry didn’t know much about the book.
“Sometimes, you will have to experience before you judge. For example, someone tells you that apples are sour. You have to taste it before you agree with them, right?”
“Make sense,” Blueberry agreed with Derek.
Derek stood up and took the bag that he had purchased.
“Daddy knows that you love books, so I bought these for you. I beg you have never read them.”
Blueberry’s eyes lit up with interest when she looked at the brightly colored book in the school bag.
There were a lot of books in it, including Peter Rabbit that she wanted to buy last time!
When she was in kindergarten, Blueberry loved reading and often visited bookstores with Serina. However, Serina ran out of patience to tell stories, so she usually bought Blueberry some books at children’s age.
“If you don’t have questions, you can ask me. You can throw the boring book away. But I have a condition.”
“Are you trying to bargain?” Blueberry tilted her head and pulled a long face. She seemed to have seen through Derek’s intentions.
“Of course, this is how this game plays. We call it trade-in. We exchange things for benefit.”
Blueberry bit her lips. “Then what do you want?”
“You should tell me the whole story and what you learn from it when you finish reading a book.”
“Is it that simple?”
“Yes.”
“Alright, deal.”
Blueberry shook hands with Derek. It looked somehow funny when the big hand was officially held with a small one.
This was the first time Derek shook hands with a kid, especially his daughter’s other party.
Cherry looked at Blueberry’s book and shook her head. “I hate books! It’s so boring! I like my giraffe.”
Serina stood outside the ward and looked at how Derek treated the kids differently. She didn’t want to go near that place!
It turned out that Derek indeed came for the kids!
The night fell.
Serina had been busy typing in front of the computer. Blueberry was reading while Derek played building blocks with Cherry. It looked so harmonious.
Serina yawned and looked at the time on the computer. It was almost ten o’clock!
She turned off the computer and said, “Blueberry, wash up and go to bed.”
“Mommy, give me some time! I have to finish this chapter!” Blueberry did not even raise his head as her eyes dropped at the book in his hand.
“Cherry, it’s time to sleep,” Serina said as she walked to the bed.
“Okay, Mommy!”
“When are you going to leave?” Serina asked, looking at Derek.
“I wasn’t going to leave anywhere.”
“Where will you sleep?”
