“Open the door! Hurry up!” Clara said.
Clara looked into the mirror and made sure that she was at her best when she received the gift.
Noticing that Clara felt better, Paige went to open the door in a hurry.
Sammy was standing at the door, with a bunch of flowers and a cake in his hands.
“Mr. Sammy, you are so romantic. You are here to celebrate Clara’s birthday!” Paige said enviously as she looked at handsome Sammy.
When Clara heard Paige’s voice, she stood up and saw Sammy at the door.
Sammy had seen Paige at work several times, so he knew Paige. When he saw her face, Sammy frowned.
“Paige, what happened to your face? Why is it so red as if someone has slapped you?” Sammy asked.
“I… my face…” Paige murmured.
“She tripped and fell facedown today. She is a careless girl, and now she suffers from her carelessness,” Clara said when she walked over.
Paige smiled awkwardly and said, “Yes, Mr. Sammy, I tripped and fell. I will leave you two to talk.”
She knew that she shouldn’t stay and interrupt them at this moment.
There were only Clara and Sammy in the room. Sammy handed the flowers to Clara.
“Clara, happy birthday,” Sammy said.
Clara took over the flowers with a smile and said, “Thank you.”
Women loved flowers. But thinking of the gigantic banquet of roses Serina received today, Clara couldn’t get excited when she saw the small ones from Sammy.
She placed the flowers on the table casually.
Sammy put down the cake, too, and hung his coat on a hanger.
“Why did you come so suddenly? You told me that you are busy recently. Aren’t you supposed to be on a business trip?” Clara said and poured a cup of water for Sammy.
“I am busy. But I took the airplane this morning, so I can come back to give you a birthday surprise. Are you surprised to see me?” Sammy said.
He was smiling.
Clara stopped smiling when she heard that. She didn’t expect that Sammy would call it a surprise.
There were no gifts or a diamond ring, but only him with a bunch of flowers and a cake.
“I went to the cake shop as soon as I got off the plane today. I made the cake by myself and I added your favorite strawberry jam on the cake,” Sammy said.
As he was saying, Sammy opened the box with the cake.
Clara sat down, feeling so embarrassed.
She couldn’t understand why Sammy would call it a surprise.
Sammy opened the box and took out a heart-shaped cake. The pattern on the cake was not exquisite and professional.
“It was my first time to make a cake. It is a little ugly. But can you ignore it? I have spent more than one hour making it,” Sammy said.
He picked up the birthday hat and wanted to put it on Clara’s head. But Clara waved away the hat, looking disgusted.
“So ugly!” Clara said.
The hat dropped to the floor. Sammy stopped smiling. He thought that Clara would be happy.
Clara realized that she overreacted, so she picked up the hat.
“I am too old to wear the hat. Let’s blow out the candles now,” she said.
Clara was an actress, so she could command her face.
“That’s fine,” Sammy said and forced a smile.
Then they began to blow out the candles and eat the cake. Although they tried to cheer up, the atmosphere between them became weird.
In the evening, although they still had sex, they were doing it like doing their job. Then they slept on the same bed, getting something on their minds respectively.
Clara was looking forward to some other gifts from Sammy. Maybe the gift was a diamond ring, a diamond necklace, or a hair clip with diamonds. But when they were going to turn off the light, she didn’t receive anything from him.
Sammy lay down with his back to Clara, with his eyes open.
He had been very tired recently because he finished three days’ work within one day just to come back for her birthday.
He still made a cake for her even he was exhausted.
He was rich, but he thought that Clara went out with him because of him and his love, instead of those expensive gifts he could buy her. To buy expensive gifts was too easy for him, but that was not what he wanted.
In the next room, Serina was having a sweet video chat with Derek.
Serina had asked for someone’s help to carry the nearly a thousand roses into her room, but many petals were scattered on the bed and floor.
The entire room was filled with the fragrance of roses.
To send women roses was a cliche. But when the girls received them, they were happy.
“Look, I decorated the room with the roses you sent. Isn’t it good?” Serina said.
“Do you like it?” Derek asked, looking down.
“Of course! I liked it very much!” Serina said as she giggled to the mirror.
She held the stone on her necklace in her hand and said, “Is this the stone the same on the Heart of the Ocean?”
“Yes, I got it from the auction,” Derek said.
“I shouldn’t wear it like this, right? It is too expensive. If I lost it, I would lose everything,” Serina said.
Serina immediately felt that the necklace was too heavy for her neck.
“Just wear it. It doesn’t matter,” Derek said and smiled.
“Why do you want to give it to me?” Serina asked.
“Didn’t you say that life was too boring?” Derek replied.
Serina said that carelessly two days ago, but Derek kept it in mind.
Serina knew that Derek was considerate though he never admitted it.
After they talked for a while, Serina felt sleepy. She had to get up early tomorrow, so they said goodnight before going to sleep.
Early the next morning, while Clara was still asleep, Sammy got up and left.
Sammy knew that Serina was also here, but he didn’t expect to meet her so early.
Serina was dressing casually, with a T-shirt and jeans. She was still sleepy because she couldn’t stop yawning.
Seeing Sammy again, Serina had already forgiven him.
“Are you here to celebrate Clara’s birthday?” Serina asked.
It was obvious that he was here for Clara’s birthday.
“Yes,” Sammy said.
Serina opened her mouth and yawned. It was a chill morning, so she hugged herself.
Sammy smiled and put his coat over Serina’s shoulders.
“Why did you get up so early?” Sammy asked.
“We haven’t confirmed the places we will go for a scene this morning. So, I got up early to discuss it with the writers. We have to keep things smooth for shooting,” Serina said.
They walked out of the hotel together.
Sammy pursed his lips and smiled. He noticed that Serina had changed a lot. She was not the one who used to be so immature.
“What are you laughing at?” Serina asked.
“It’s nothing. I think that you have changed a lot. In the past, you had to copy others’ homework. Other than playing games, I had never seen you do something seriously,” Sammy said.
“So what? Do you have regrets?” Serina said, glancing at Sammy.
Sammy smiled bitterly and didn’t speak.
“You don’t look good. It must be the gift you prepared for her last night. Didn’t she like it?” Serina asked.
At the same time, a camera flashed frequently behind them.
