A very loud howl comes out from the woods in the direction of the castle. An equally loud growl follows the howl, making my heart pound louder. We immediately stop walking and I look at Nelly who looks very worried.
“What is going on?” I inquire.
“That is Alpha Dwayne’s howl. He is trying to communicate that there is danger in the castle and the entire pack should go and defend him,” Nelly replies. I look at the pack of warriors behind me wondering if they are going to choose to . defend their current Alpha or their rightful Alpha.
“But we know what we want. We have already chosen the side we want to fight for and we aren’t going to change our minds,” Menny assures me.
“We must hurry. I think they have started to fight,” he adds, and we start running. the wolves just glide through the woods. I, however, keep stumbling over my own feet. Nelly keeps helping me to run without falling. I don’t understand why she should bother trying to help me instead of transforming like the others and dashing off. But she keeps holding my hand. Maybe it is because the Luna shouldn’t land on her face.
The night is pretty bright. I think I am lucky that it isn’t chilly or I would he freezing in this light top and pants. I manage to keep up until we reach the front of the castle. There are only wolves around. There isn’t anyone in their human forms. They stand in form of a circle around two strong big wolves fighting in the centre. One is black and one is gray. That must be Jace and Dwayne. I can’t even tell who is who.
When the spectating wolves turn to look at us when they notice our arrival. I flinch at the way they look at me. I had escaped from the castle and now I am back. The two wolves continue to fight without noticing us. I swallow hard and try not to shiver at the thought that the men that kidnapped me are among them.
A gray wolf walks towards me with his eyes fixed on mine. I feel an icy chill ran down my spine as he comes nearer. The wolf barks at me hence attracting the attention of the spectating wolves and the ones fighting. I swallow hard at the sight of hundreds of eyes in me. I don’t like being the center of attention.
The wolf increases its speed, dashing towards me. Other wolves follow behind it. Oh, god! My face breaks into a cold sweat as I stand transfixed with my legs unable to move as if they are glued to the ground.
The black wolf breaks into a run, trying to come towards me. I don’t know if he is trying to stop the gray wolf and the ones behind him or to tear me apart. Before it reaches near me, the gray wolf pounces onto his back throwing him away. The black wolf lands on its side with a growl and everyone else watching the horror in silence.
I don’t know if Jace is the gray wolf or the black one. I hate that I am unable to tell. My heart really constricts in pain for the black wolf. I have a very strong urge to ran over to him and engulf him into an embrace. Something keeps pulling me to him. It is as is I can feel his pain.
The big gray wolf walks majestically past the other wolves with his eyes fixed on me. The wolf that was dashing towards me stops a seend stands aside for the big wolf to pass. My heart swells with loathing for this big gray wolf. My fists clench in anger. This is not Jace. It must be Dwayne. That is why the wolves stand aside for him to pass. That is the reason why the black wolf was not given a chance to reach me.
Menny steps forward and stands in front of me. Is he protecting me from the gray wolf? The gray wolf tilts his head slightly, I think trying to understand what Menny has just done. He was expecting him to come with reinforcement, and was probably happy seeing he brought me with him, but was definitely surprised when he stood infront of me to protect me from him.
The gray wolf takes another step towards me.
“Keep your distance from the Luna!” Menny orders the gray wolf. Everyone’s attention immediately goes to Menny. They are obviously surprised by his disrespectful tone to the Alpha wolf and the fact that he just called me the Luna.
“Yes. You heard me right. I won’t let you dare to get your filthy paws on the Luna of the Redclaw pack!” he says out loud for everyone to hear. The black wolf has already regained his balance and is staring equally as surprised as the rest of the other spectating wolves.
“As the warriors of the Redclaw pack, we have come here to defend the rightful Alpha of this pack and our future Luna. We are going to sweep out the parasites and their pesky leader. The Redclaws have had enough of your dirty rule filled with lies, terror and blood bath. We are going to fight for the true leader,” Menny adds in a firm unshaken voice.
The gray wolf’s face twists in rage and he roars loudly at Menny. Menny, however, does not flinch.
“I am sure I am never going to regret this, Dwayne. The only thing I will live to regret are the years I wasted training those damn followers of yours who don’t even belong to this pack,” he responds.
The gray wolf howls and stomps twice. The spectating wolves start running towards him and the wolves we came with.
“Attack!” Menny commands his army of warriors. The wolves violently run into each other. Menny quickly transforms into a fierce brown wolf and pounces on Dwayne. The whole whole place if turned into a mess of wolves tearing each other apart. I strain my neck trying to spot the unique black wolf with small silver stripes on the back, but I can’t spot him. There are loud growls filling the atmosphere as the wolves fight each other.
This is so terrifying. I hope Jace is okay. God, please let him be okay.
Blood splatters onto my white top creating a very horrifying stain. A white wolf with a bloody muzzle walks around me. There is a wolf’s body on the ground in front of me, but it has no head. No, the head is just on my feet. I silently scream in my head and a shiver runs through me. The white wolf is the one that cut of the head. It was protecting me. I look at the white wolf again and realise that it’s Sophia. I has almost forgotten how she looked like when she transformed.
Something grabs my hand and I almost scream for real. When I turn to see who it is, Nelly holds both of my hands and pulls me.
“You need to get to a safe place. You shouldn’t be watching this,” she tells me while half dragging me away from the fighting wolves.
“But Jace is still here. I can’t leave without him,” I tell her. I don’t want to leave Jace here in this deadly fight even though I don’t know where exactly he is.
“Jace’s biggest priority is your safety. You should mind your safety first. He will be okay knowing that you are out of harm’s way,” Nelly tries to persuade me. I first look back at the fighting wolves and wonder how Jace is doing. The white wolf pounces on another wolf, sinking her long canines into the wolf’s body. I immediately nod to Nelly and she leads me away.
Nelly takes me beside the castle where it is dark enough for us be be hidden very well. I close my eyes and they burn because of the tiredness. The only thing that I can do right now is pray that everything goes well. Jace should defeat Dwayne and avenge his parents’ unjust murder.
I don’t think I have ever prayed so hard for something. I never even prayed this hard when my parents were going to get a divorce. All we need is a miracle, whether from the moon goddess or the almighty God. It doesn’t matter because I believe they are the same God.
