Lunch was good

Amy
I woke up with a light head. I willed myself not to think anything about Jace so that I can focus on my work. I realized that I had lagged behind on the book I was editing. I poured myself some coffee and sat in front of my laptop. I am surprised when I finish the book before one. I haven’t eaten anything sensible since morning. I last ate a decent meal at Jace’s house. Ugh… There he goes again. He just can’t get out of my mind. I can’t stop thinking about him. I miss him now.
I turn off the laptop and go to the kitchen. I try not to remember that Jace was kissing me on that kitchen counter, but it’s hopeless. Jace has probably done something to me. I have never been possessed by someone like this. I have to use possessed because I nolonger have any control over my own feelings. There isn’t enough groceries in the kitchen for me to make a decent meal. I hate this day.
While I am getting angry at my kitchen, someone knocks at my door. I am not expecting someone. I hardly hear knocks from that door. I hurry to the door while my subconscious screams Jace’s name in a prayer. I don’t know what that is about.
“Hi,” says the mind’s most wanted.
“Hi,” says the mind’s owner.
“May I come in,” Jace is in the most gentlemanly appearance I have seen him in.
“Sure,” I respond calmly. I open the door for him to enter and close it behind me. I lean against the door and observe him as he takes long strides across my living room with a leopard’s grace.
“Good morning,” he says.
“Morning,” I reply.
He turns to find me still standing on the door. He stops moving.
“So, how was your night?” he asks. Horrible, I want to shout.
“Fine,” I reply with a nod.
“Aren’t you any curious what my night was like?” he asks with a raised eyebrow.
“I’d rather I didn’t know,” I reply.
“Thought so,” he says with a smirk. Now that is the Jace I know.
“What are you doing here?” I ask. The brightness in his eyes dies out and I feel bad having asked. I walk away from the door into the living room. Jace looks somewhat nervous. I don’t know if I am seeing right.
“I just came here to check on you,” he replies.
“I have a hard time believing that,” I tell him. He gives me a small smile. I expected him to tease me a bit about that, but he just looks around him. I kinda feel guilty for the awkward silence.
“Well, you can have a sit,” I offer him to sit on the couch.
“I don’t want to bother you, Amy. I just came here to ask you out for lunch,” he says. I am really surprised.
“If you aren’t busy and if you haven’t already had lunch,” he adds.
“Sure,” I say.
“Really?” he asks.
“Ofcourse. I haven’t had lunch yet,” I say with a smile.
“I guess I have good timing,” he gives me a dimpled smile which melts my heart.
“Don’t flutter yourself,” I smirk at him. He laughs softly. The sound resonates through my body awakening every cell.
“Can we go now,” he asks.
“Let me first prepare myself. I will take just a minute,” I request him.
“Sure. Take all the time you need,” he tells me. I give him another smile and rush to my bedroom.
I close the door to my bedroom and lean against it. I feel so excited. I know it’s just lunch but my entire body is excited to be able to spend sometime with Jace. I close my eyes and take a deep breath. I try to recollect my thoughts. I am lagging behind on my work. I have planned for this week to be very productive. My subconscious tells me that it is just lunch. It won’t take more than two hours. Jace took me to his house yesterday after lunch. I really had a good time with his family and I would really love him to take me today. To hell with work. For once in my boring life I something exciting is happening.
I put on some pants and a light top so that I don’t look too dressy. I yank the hair tie from my messy bun so that it falls in long waves around my shoulders. I brush it quickly and take a quick peek in the mirror. Not bad. I grab my purse and head to Jace. I find him sitting patiently on the couch. He looks up when I reach him.
“I hope I didn’t make you wait for too long,” I tell him.
“I told you to take all the time you needed,” he says.
“You look nice,” he adds while scanning me with his eyes.
“Thanks,” I say with a smile. I think I will be smiling a lot today. I hope so.
Jace’s jeep is waiting outside when we get out of my apartment. I thought we would walk together like we did yesterday. I also like driving with Jace. He opens for me my door and I sit in. The car is filled with Jace’s scent. My favorite scent.
“Where are you taking me?” I ask him.
“Somewhere simple for us to have a peaceful meal,” he replies.
“Peaceful?” I wondered.
“Yeah. I wouldn’t want drunkards knocking on our table or overly expensive waitresses signaling for tips,” he says. I laugh. It feels so good to laugh.
“We could go back to the place you took me yesterday,” I tell him.
“Are you sure?”
“It had neither of those things you mentioned and it has great food.”
“Alright.”
The weather is nice and fresh mixed with the presence of Jace makes my heart at peace. I lean into my seat and relish the moment.
Jace and I get a table near a window. The waiter is quick to take our order.
“How is everyone at home?” I ask him while we wait for our food.
“They are fine. I think they liked you,” he replies. I can’t help but smile.
“I liked them too,” I tell him.
Our food arrives and we eat in silence. I can feel the peace that Jace was asking for. Even the people that walk by the window just talk quietly amongst themselves.
The waiter brings the bill and clears our table. Jace pays for the food and we leave. When we enter the car, Jace turns on the radio. I really want him to take me back to his home but I don’t tell him. I don’t want to go to my boring apartment anymore. I would rather be near Jace even though he hasn’t said a lot. I wonder why he is being so reserved. I miss his banter. i miss his teasing, and I haven’t got a chance to swat his arm. I guess he is a gentleman today.
He keeps his hand on my thigh the entire drive. It feels so good having it there. At some point he is drawing lazy patterns on my high or he is still. My apartment block appears in sight sooner than I want. I want to stomp my feet and throw my hands about like an errant toddler but I remain the collected adult that I am. Jace parks the car and looks at me.
“Can I escort you inside?” he asks.
“Sure. That would be so nice of you,” I respond. He raises an eyebrow at me and I giggle like a teenager.
