Lily’s POV.
Ryan and I take his car and leave the building. I duck in the seat when I see my brother entering the garage. We were just saved by a second.
“When are you going to tell Lucas?” Ryan asks.
“Maybe the weekend before your parents’ anniversary.” I say.
“Why then?” He asks.
“Because if I tell him now, I fear he might spill the beans in front of Richard.” I say.
“Okay.” Ryan says.
“We will do one thing. We will invite my whole family to have dinner with us on that weekend and I will tell him. Great idea?” I ask.
“Whatever you say, dear.” Ryan says as he kisses my hand.
“What if I say that this dear would like to invite your best friends and brothers for dinner this weekend, then?” I ask.
“Then my dear shall definitely get what she wants. I will tell them today only after everything is alright then we will discuss everything with them then we will have dinner with your brother next weekend for his approval which doesn’t matter to me.” Ryan says with a smile.
“But it does matter to me a lot.” I say with a pout as we reach the hospital.
“Then I will do everything to make him realise that I am the best choice for you.” He says and turns off the engine.
“Well you are the only one for me.” I say and kiss him, “Now let’s go and see if our baby is okay or not.”
“Okay.” Ryan says and gets out of the car and comes by my side when I get out.
We go to the doctor’s cabin directly and wait for her as she sees my reports. I tell her about all my worries and she listens to it carefully.
“As you said it was a slight spotting, it happens sometimes in the early stages. But as you didn’t get it this month, you would be fine. And it is common for some women to not have morning sickness. But we will run some tests and meet again tomorrow to discuss this.” Dr. Miller says with her sweet smile which makes me relax a bit.
“What tests would that be?” Ryan asks.
“Well if you both want, we can take a transabdominal ultrasound right now. This will help me know if the baby is growing properly, it will also let me calculate your due date and it’s size and also help me detect if there is any problem.” She says.
We agreed to have an ultrasound as I really want to know if everything is okay and put my worry to rest. We have to wait for an hour for that and I have to drink lots of water by then to have a full bladder.
At last the time comes, when Ryan and I will see our baby bun. The woman who is taking songram instructs me through the process and tells me to lay down on the bed after removing my pants. Ryan winks at me as I remove them and I slap his arm lightly.
Then he helps me on the bed and the woman drapes the sheet till my lower abdomen. She applies some cool gel on my stomach and tells me to look at the screen as she puts the wand on the gel and tries to search for a clear image.
Ryan holds my hand in his and we wait patiently as the sonographer tries to find the baby. It is a bit uncomfortable when she presses it because of my full bladder.
But all that discomfort flies right out of the window when I hear the heartbeats of our baby. I look at Ryan to see him smiling with wonder at the sweet melodious sound. He kisses my head with love and tears shining in his eyes.
“And here is your baby.” She says and we look at the screen in excitement.
“He looks so tiny.” I say as I look at the tiny grape size baby in the monitor.
“She looks so tiny.” Ryan says.
We both look at each other and chuckle then look back at our little bun.
“You will know by tomorrow that the baby is he or she. But I can tell you that your baby is growing right. Do you want a picture of it or a video?” She asks and we eagerly nod in yes.
“Please give three pictures and also one video.” Ryan says and I look at him in question and he shrugs.
Maybe he wants to surprise Richard and Heather by this. Ryan helps me rub away the lube and get down from bed. I put on my pants and finally use the washroom to empty everything. The doctor tells us to meet for an appointment tomorrow at 6.
“Is it possible to become so happy in one day?” I ask as we get in the car and out of the garage.
“Yes. For us, definitely yes.” Ryan says.
“I am so happy and I love you so much.” I say and spontaneously kiss his cheek.
“Well me too and I love you too. I wish I could kiss you too but I have to be careful while driving. Now tell me where do you want to have dinner? Home or restaurant?” Ryan asks.
“Home. I will cook up something for us. I really don’t want to eat outside today.” I say and put my head on his shoulder.
“Okay. Home it is then.” Ryan says as he kisses my head and takes a turn towards our apartment.
It feels so nice to call it our and also home. I always thought that one day I would have a family of my own but I never thought that this day would come so soon.
We reach home and I get changed into comfortable clothes after getting freshen up. Ryan is busy with making new arrangements at the anniversary island for me and his parents. After giving food to Teddy and Lady, I start making dinner.
I see that Ryan already took out some ingredients for me and also made some grilled panini. I eat one and decide to make veg burgers and soup. Ryan peeks in the kitchen and when he sees me eating, he nods and leaves.
After completing everything I take them out in the living room and put them on the coffee table and drag Ryan in for dinner. We have dinner and Ryan tells me to rest up while he takes Teddy and Lady out for a walk.
I take the vitamins which the doctor prescribed for me. I walk for a while then wait for Ryan to come as I read do’s and don’ts. As I am at the last page, Ryan enters our room. He kisses my cheek then goes to change.
All this feels so natural and normal now that we are together again just like before. It was like we were destined to meet each other and have each other. I just hope that Richard would not get upset by any of these.
After Ryan lays next to me, we look at the picture again and I ask,”Why did you ask for three?”
“Well one for Mom and Dad, one for us and one for frame. Do you want a boy?” He asks.
“Yes I can’t wait to have little boy with your eyes.” I said as I caressed his cheek.
“Well I want a girl as I want a girl with your eyes and hair. She would be a spitfire for sure.” Ryan says as he smiles and his smile makes me fall in love with him more.
“We will see tomorrow.” I say.
“We will. And whoever loses will decorate the nursery.” Ryan says with a smirk.
“That is not fair.” I say with a pout.
“Well no one should lose. If you are right I should get happy by decorating the nursery and the same goes for you.” Ryan says.
“Fine. But I will name him.” I say with a teasing smile as I feel like it would be a boy.
Next day, I wore a grey checkered dress over white shirt and tied my hair in a high ponytail. I eat breakfast with Ryan which he made for me. Then we leave for work together.
“I am going to call Noah and Theo today for dinner this weekend. Why don’t you invite Vance and Kathy?” Ryan asks.
“Okay. But don’t reveal anything about this,” I say as I point at my belly.
“Okay, my dear fiancee.” Ryan says as he stops his car near my company.
“Thanks, my dear fiance.” I say and kiss him before leaving but then stop and say, “I will leave early today too. So, I will meet you at Andersons?”
“Okay. Use this card.” Ryan says as he gives me his card to access the private elevator.
“Okay.” I say and leave after he gives me one more kiss.
I spend half of my day completing almost all my work and with Mindy. I have to learn not to do all the things by myself and share my workload a bit. I have lunch with Mindy and we discuss our schedule for the coming days as everybody knows that Vance and Kathy are going to the island for two days and I would be accompanying them.
After the first day, I put the ring in the necklace and carry it around in my bag. I don’t want people to get the idea that I am engaged before Ryan’s parents know. Except for Emma and Ryan’s friends nobody knows and we want to keep it that way.
At 5 in the evening, I leave for Ryan’s company and get easy access but I hide it from others so as not to get suspicious. Otherwise my brother would get wind of it and ask me a thousand questions. I have to tell Ryan about it too.
“Why don’t you sit here while I see to one last thing and also if your brother is here or not?” Ryan says as he makes me sit in his chair and leaves after a forehead kiss.
I look at his desk where everything is neat and in perfect order. I love the family photo he has on desk. It is a picture of his whole family including both sets of grandparents and by the look of it, I think it was taken last Christmas.
I know Robert and Anna who look rough but beautiful as a couple like Richard but then my eyes go to Heather’s parents who look classy but soft like Heather. Then I see Noah’s soft and Theo’s teasing smile and my Ryan’s sweet one.
I get bored and open his desk drawer to find the rubik’s cube he keeps in the office to pass the time. Instead I found something more interesting. I take out a wooden folded photo frame out of the desk.
I open it to see it has three frames and each frame has a photo which makes me smile broadly. First one has our pups which I think he took when I left Lady with him alone. In the middle is my picture which he took on my birthday. I get embarrassed by my silly smile which I gave Ryan.
And last but definitely not the least is the picture from last evening. It is an ultrasound image of our baby. I caress it and feel a surge of love come over me for the person in that image. I can’t wait to see my little bun for sure and the baby would be loved so much by so many people.
“This frame will be here by the end of this month and I can look at it all day and not under the desk sneakily.” Ryan says and I didn’t even hear him entering the cabin and see him point at the place at the desk beside his family photo frame.
“Really?” I ask as I turn around in a chair towards him.
“Yes. And then after this year’s Christmas, I will put up a new family photo in which you would be smiling widely with a big baby bump.” He says.
“Then?” I ask as I like where it is going.
“Then next year there would be another picture in which I would have one arm around you and in another arm I would be holding our baby who would be smiling too.” Ryan says and I smile at him.
“Then another year later there would be another with one more baby, maybe.” Ryan says and I start giggling.
I love when he talks about the future even though it is not fixed. But I like that he would want the same thing as I will and we will do everything to make it possible. And that possibility is what we need right now.
