Chapter 11 The Truth About Becca

Book:My Perfect Mess Published:2024-5-1

It’s Thursday morning; Sammy and I just got on the road to head home for Bev’swedding. The boys will only come through tomorrow; we did not ask why and we did not want to know why either. Sammy and Johno are back together again…why I don’t know. As long as he makes her happy and does not break her heart, then I am happy. I have had no contact with Josh whatsoever. The only reason he is coming is for a wedding date.
OMG! I hope they don’t put us in the same room.
But as for Sammy, she can hardly keep her excitement in, “I am so excited, Becca!”
“For which part? Your sister’s wedding or Johno?”
“Both! I hope you will make up with Josh. He makes you happy, and you know it!”
“Sammy, I care about him so much, but I cannot stand people lie to me.”
Then again, the boys are going to find out this weekend that we have been lying to them all this time as well, “What do you think they are going to do when they find out the truth?”
“I am hoping it does not change a thing.”
“Not that it matters with Josh anymore.”
Sammy only but smiles at me as we pull into the driveway of her old home, “We are home!”
Sammy’s parents are at the front door waiting for us. We all hug and say hello. You can see Sammy is really happy to be back home. I know she misses her life here. She only moved from home to support me and my crazy idea to live in the big city.
If I could meet the right kind of guy, I would gladly move back home and settle and run daddy’s business. But that seems to be more difficult than I thought…first, Matt and now Josh.
“Hey ladies!” Bev comes running up to us. “I am so excited to see you guys!”
“Where is the man candy?”
“Shut up, Bev!” Sammy says
“Yes, shut up, Bev!” I add.
She only but smiles at us wickedly, “No steamy stories for the slumber party tonight, then?”
“No,” I start. “They are only coming tomorrow. No mentioning of what they do in their spare time!”
“I cannot wait to hear what mom says about Sammy’s new boyfriend.”
“Don’t you dare!” Sammy points her finger at her.
“A slumber party?” I ask. “You already had a bachelorette party,” Sammy adds.
“Was Becca’s mom’s idea,” Bev says.
“That is mom; she is always up to something.”
“Come!” she pulls us both by the arm. “It is cocktail time!”
You are sitting at the outside bar watching the wedding planners set up all the tables and chairs when you get a message from Josh, “I can’t wait to see you, pumpkin.”
“Urgh! I wish this phone were really broken!.”
Sammy winks at me, “Oh, is that Josh? You know…”
“Don’t even finish that sentence.”
Sammy gets a message from Johno, “Love you babe. See you later.”
Sammy goes all mush, “Oh, that is so sweet.”
I only but shake my head at her, “You are really not well; you do know that.”
“What can you say…I love the boy..”
I nearly choke on my drink, “Shit, where did that come from!”
“Don’t be so dramatic! I am going to tell you something. Don’t freak out, and don’t tell anyone!”
“I don’t like the sound of this.”
“He has asked…”
We get interrupted by Bev, “Come slumber party!”
I am dying to hear what Sammy wanted to say, but we are at this stupid girl party. I take my phone and text her. “Spill the beans!”
“Later.”
“No now.”
“Get a glass of wine.”
“Got one.”
“Sit.”
“Seated.”
“Breath.”
“I am breathing overwise I would be dead!”
“Johno asked me to marry him.”
“WTF!”
Everybody looks at me. Did I say that out loud? “Sorry, just got some bad news; my cat died.”
Bev looks at me suspiciously, “You don’t have a cat.”
“Shut up.” Sammy smacks her against the head.
“Yes, shut up,” I say as I slap her on the other side of her head too.
I text Sammy, “I hope you did not say yes.”
“I did say yes. They are coming through tonight.”
“Tonight, you surely mean tomorrow?”
“No. tonight! They have just arrived!”
I look at Bev, “Do you have anything stronger?”
Just then, a girl storms into the room, “Who ordered the strippers!”
OMG! Fuck! Shit!
“Sammy, what do we do?”
“I don’t know!”
Bev looks at Sammy and me with a wicked smile on her face, “Please tell me those are your boys?”
“Do these stupid old women expect strippers?” I ask.
Bev only but shakes her head, “I am just here to drink. I don’t know what they have been told!”
I call after Sammy that is only just sitting with a stupid ass smile on her face, “Call that stupid girl before I punch her in the face!”
“Yes,” Sammy agrees. “All I need is for dad to think I am marrying a stripper!”
“What!” Bev raises her voice but a pitch higher. “Are you getting married?”
“Oh shit,” I gasp. “Can this not get any worse.”
“Now,” I watch as Sammy’s mom comes walking on closer. “Ladies, we are not expecting any strippers. Do you want to give grandma a heart attack?” Letitia pulls Sammy and me aside. “I am going to assume the two hot asses outside are your boyfriends and not strippers.”
“Definitely boyfriends,” Sammy says.
“Or husbands to be,” Bev says.
“Bev shut up!” I say.
Letitia smiles and heads back to the group. We head outside to meet up with Johno and Josh
“Hello, babe,” Sammy immediately leaps into Johno’s arms. “I am so glad you are here!”
“Babe,” he says as he squeezes her in his arms. “I do not want to be anywhere else.”
I only but cringe as I look at the two of them, “I think I just threw up in my mouth.”
“In that case,” Josh smirks at me. “I am not kissing you.”
“You are a creep!” I turn my back on him and face Sammy, “Sammy? Do I have to pretend I like him?”
“Yes! People are looking! Give him a kiss, and you better mean it!”
I only but grunt, “If you touch my ass, Josh, I will kick you!”
Josh moves towards me and wraps his arms around my waist. He gently pulls me against his hard-muscled body. I feel him placing his soft lips against mine. He moves to whisper a single word in my ear…
“Please…”
With that, I pull him closer by his shirt and allow him to enter my mouth. His kiss is deep and passionate; it’s like he is making love to my mouth. My body weakens as his tongue gently meets mine…I let out a soft moan, and he smiles with pleasure
“Slow down, boy; we don’t want to give them a show!”
As I pull away from Josh, Sammy takes me by the hand and laces her fingers into mine. “Come, Becca. Everybody is heading down to the pool for more cocktails.”
I walk hand in hand with Sammy as we head to the pool. Lucky we put on our bathing suits on earlier. The boys slip into the pool house to change into theirs.
“Don’t look now, Becca, but there are two hotties coming this way.”
“Fuck Sammy. Tell me why I am mad at Josh again.”
You see all the women turn around and look at Johno and Josh. I think grandma nearly fell off her chair. And then there goes, Bev
“Looking good, boys!”
“Bev shut up!”
And of course, I have to go grunt, “Urgh! Oh, fuck.”
Josh bends down and bites my lower lip while he briefly slips his tongue into my mouth.
Once we all sit with a drink in our hands and relax, Johno turns to Sammy, “Babe.”
“Yes.”
“Do you seriously live here?”
“Here? Ag, it is nothing. Becca’s place is bigger.”
I only but wave Sammy off. “Sammy’s bar is far bigger.”
Josh that who has been quietly taking this all in, looks at me strangely. “Why do you girls work at Spangles then?”
“It is all Becca’s fault.” Sammy says, “She wanted to spread her wings and moved to the big city.”
Then I add, “Sammy followed me to keep me out of mischief. Spangles just happened because of a stupid plan I had.”
“That is quite amazing,” Johno says. “Two-country girls trying to make it in the big city.”
“Oh, it is just temporary.” Sammy says, “Becca here is going to take over…”
I slap her gently on her arm, “Sammy, don’t bore the boys with our silly adventures.”
Then Josh for the first time speaks again, “So Sammy? What is your last name, then?”
“I am Samantha Ellis. Fancy, hey?”
“And you, Becca?”
“It’s Rebecca James.”
Josh looks at you but does not say a word.
Once we have finished our drinks, I drag Sammy by the arm towards to pool, “Sammy, let’s go for a swim.”
We get up to leave but not before I bend down and sit on Josh’s lap. I take his face in my hands and gently bite his lower lip
“Don’t miss me too much, my love.”
As we disappear away from them, I can vaguely hear him mumble.
“Johno, I think I have made a big mistake.”
