Chapter 9 Given The Cold Shoulder

Book:Gamble With My Heart Published:2024-5-1

As I lay spread across my bed, I suddenly feel a stir. Wait! Something is wrong. I cannot remember coming home with her. I feel her move again. My body stiffens, and I panic. Damn, this is so not how I wanted it to happen. I would have hoped our first time would have been one I would have at least remembered. Then she moves again. I might as well face the moment. I slowly open my one eye, bracing myself for the worst.
“What the fuck are you doing here? How did you get in? Bella?”
I was making myself ready for the worst morning after ever, trying to explain how much I drank and that I did not mean to forget, but instead, I find this.
Bella
“How did you get into the house?”
“I let her in.”
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
“I drove your drunk ass home. And now that I see you okay, I am going home. I will see you at the office later.”
“Thanks, is there anything bad that I should know about that happened?”
“Would you not like to know?”
I give her one of my best ‘do not fuck around with me faces,’ but it obviously does not seem to work. I scratch around the bedside table, looking for my phone.
“What is the time?”
“It’s only three in the morning.”
“Fuck go home, take my car; I will speak to you later.”
“And Bella?”
“It is fine; she can sleep here.”
After about another five hours of sleep, I drag my hungover ass out of bed. Bella is taking half of my bed up.
“Madam, you are going to have to get that ass off my bed before Maggie gets here.”
“I am going to take that as a no.”
I head into the shower, hoping that the cool water will get rid of this pounding headache. Why on earth did I drink so much? Oh, it was that silly drinking game that Skye made me play, which she hands down won. I change into one of my business suits; I have a meeting with the HOD at Hamilton Enterprises today.
A half-hour later, after trying to convince Bella to move with absolutely no success, I make my way out the door for the coffee shop.
When I get to Crazy Beans, I find both of them waiting for me. Brody is the very first one starting to grind my ass.
“You did not go home together, so why are you so late?”
“How do you know we did not hook up later?”
“Then your lucky ass would have a grin on your face and not that my head is going to explode face.”
“Since when did you become an expert in body language?”
Brody is not even left to answer as Mason immediately interrupts as he beliefs by that stupid look on his face that he has something better to say
“Since his ass failed to notice that Jo is not really into him.”
“Oh, have you finally met your match.”
“There is actually a female version of all three of us combined.”
“You make it sound like it is so horrible.”
“It is horrible if you have been played,” Brody finally adds his thoughts.
But this does not let Mason of the hook as well, for he has been going solo for a while now.
“And when is your horrible ass going to get laid,” I ask.
“I am taking a break from women.”
“So, are you leaning towards men?”
“Fuck keep your ass away from me.”
“Stop being stupid, and if I were, my ass would not go for you.”
“What the hell is wrong with me?”
“I thought you said you not into men?”
“I am just asking why you do not think I am attractive.”
“You do know how sick that sounds?”
Just then, the waitress pops around by our table to take our order. “Same as usual, boys?”
“Yes, please. You don’t perhaps have some aspirin as well?”
“I will check with Jo in the office. You want a double espresso?”
“Yes, and get me a bottle of water too.”
“I heard what Skye did to you guys last night.”
“Where is she this morning?”
“Oh, she overslept again.”
After taking Mason and Brody’s order, she disappears into the back by the office. And that is when I see her coming through the front door, so goddamn beautiful as ever. With probably the same amount of sleep and what I assume an even worst hangover, she looks as hot as hell.
She smiles at our table as she quickly rushes past. How I want to take that body and lay it over that counter, just devour every exposed part of her skin, I want to run my hand up that skirt and scrunch my fingers around the seams of her panties as I rip them off.
“Earth to Damon!” Mason waves his hands in front of my face to get my attention.
“What the fuck are you thinking of? By the looks of what you are staring at, I can see what he wants to get on.”
“Do we need to remind you that you have five days left,” Brody adds, “And it has to be her place.”
“I am closer than you think.”
“Yes, keep telling yourself that. The Damon we know would have done it last night.”
“The last time I checked, the Damon, you know, did not need your help.”
I get off from the table and go to the counter where she is now standing at. The expression on her face is unreadable. Does she play men like her friend Jo does? That is so the last thing I need; then I am clearly losing this bet.
“Hey, you.”
“Hey, Damon.”
“You look beautiful today.”
“Thanks, I was going to say you too, but you actually look like shit.”
“I don’t think I like your idea of a compliment.”
“Oh, was that what I attempted to do? I was actually trying to be rude.”
“Now, why would you want to be rude to such a pretty face?”
“If you keep on telling yourself that, you might just believe it.”
“Now that is really damn rude.”
“I really do try my best.”
Now, if I looked like shit, then she is a complete ray of sunshine this morning.
“Am I going to see you later?”
“You are seeing me now, aren’t you?”
“But I want to see more of you, maybe even steal a kiss or two?”
Skye “I am going to be busy at the shop the whole day.”
“And the club later?”
“I don’t know if Jo is going.”
“What about dinner then or drinks at the pub down the road from my office?”
“I will let you know, but if you excuse me, I have to go place today’s orders.”
With that, she is gone. Talk about a cold shoulder; it is like we are back to day one.
I go sit back down at our table, completely shocked by what has just happened. I have had a woman be rude to me before, but this is just plain nasty.
“What just happened there?” Mason is the first to ask.
“I think I officially got the cold shoulder.”
“I’d say more like an iced one. What did you do to piss her off?”
“What makes you think that I did something?”
“Most of the time, it is you.”
Then Brody needs to state the obvious, “Things are really looking bad for you.”
“Just shut up and let’s go.”
“Oh, yes, you have a meeting at my office.”
“I don’t know why I can’t just talk to you.”
“Because I am not in sales.”
“Who is this girl, anyway?”
“How am I supposed to know every person that works for me?”
“Well, have you not yet fucked her?”
“I have not gotten to that department.”
“Fuck, you are sick.”
We finish up our coffee and head out to Brody’s office. I have been trying for months to get an appointment to see this girl, she is looking to source some software, and I know that I have the best in the business. Brody does not get involved in this side of the business; that is why he claimed that he has the best in his department.
At the reception, we part our ways as I confirm my appointment with her. While waiting for her, I run through my phone, hoping that I would see a message from Skye. But as I get to the end of my new messages, I don’t find any.
I am so deep into thought that I don’t notice a beautiful woman standing in front of me.
“Mr. Chase.”
“Mrs…”
