Chapter Thirty-Five

Book:Impossible Mates Published:2024-5-1

The next few days just went in a blur, I was glued to Rudy’s side the whole time, but I didn’t see Max at all I was actually getting worried. I was walking back from talking with Jazz when Rudy runs over pulling me into the house, closing the door behind us.
“I’ve just gone to speak to your family again,” he says as he closed the kitchen window, while I take a seat at the kitchen counter, “I told them about us having to be faked married,” he says crossing his arms looking out the window, just in case someone walks in.
“How’d they take it?” I asked picking up an orange from the fruit bowl, knowing Ryan he wouldn’t be happy, I don’t know how my parents would react.
“Mixed reviews” is all he says as the door opens his parents walking in, this is the first time I’ve met his mother.
“What you guys doing here?” Rudy asks walking towards me putting his arm around my shoulders, to act like we were really together.
“We were just passing and thought we’d come and visit, oh Savannah before I forget you need to bring someone in from the outside to be your maid of honour,” his father says which makes me look up to Rudy, how the heck am I meant to do that?
“Don’t worry Savannah, it’s my job to go and collect them you won’t have to leave here, I know how much you love living here?” he says answering my question that I thought in my head, his father smiles before he and his wife walk out.
“Doesn’t anyone in this place know how to knock?” I ask peeling my orange, that could have gone really bad, he laughs walking around to me.
“Nope, we’re not even allowed to lock our doors, it’s kind of a thing here” he taking my orange eating it, that’s something Max would do, wait where the heck is Max, I haven’t seen him in ages.
“Where’s Max?” I ask, which makes him stop for a second slowly turning around to look at me.
“Okay but I didn’t tell you this,” he says quickly walking me to the end of the room away from the front door “Well after he tried to stop me getting close to you that day in the kitchen with my father, he was told he had to stay away from you or he’d face punishments,” he says which makes me look at him shocked, Max was told to stay away from me by who?
“He said he wouldn’t do that so my father dragged him out and away for his  punishment” he continues quietly as the front door opens again, but this time a guy around our age walks in.
“Sorry but I really need to speak with you Rudy, it’s important,” he says, I nod and walk out the house closing the door behind me, there was a small bench in front of the house that I sat on watching everyone go about their normal day.
Everyone here just acts like this place is normal, that’s far from the truth, they walk around just following the rules not questioning them for even a second, especially the women they’re not even allowed to leave this place their husbands have to do it for them. I wonder what Ryan’s doing, I’ve been so caught up in all the drama here I haven’t really had much chance to think about him, hopefully, he’s helping Rudy come up with a plan to get me out of here and back home.
Before I could think anymore, Rudy and the mystery guy walk out Rudy looking worried as ever, he waved goodbye to the guy grabbing my hand pulling me out of sight a little.
“We have a problem, that was my good friend Peter he’s the only person that knows about what I do, he’s been listening to what people are saying and no one believes we’re actually a couple,” he says running his hand through his hair, if people find out we’re not really together it isn’t long before they figure out that I’m trying to leave and Rudy’s helping.
“But why don’t people believe it?” I ask, I mean when people come around the house we’re always joined at the hip, you’d think that would be enough.
“Because we haven’t been doing stuff couples do, yes we stand close together but that’s it, people are gonna find out if we don’t fix this,” he says worried, well then we are gonna have to make a big statement but like what? But an idea soon pops in my head.
I take his hand in mine walking him out the hiding place and into the town, where many people were standing, he keeps asking what I’m doing but I don’t answer and continue walking until we stop in the middle of everyone. I crashed my lips onto his,  he freezes before he eventually kisses back, we stand there for a few minutes. We pull apart Rudy wearing a shocked face, I look around to see people staring at us but they quickly get back to what they were doing, acting like they weren’t.
“I think we just fixed it,” I say quietly laughing at his facial expression, it was pure shock out,  the corner of my eye I see Max looking at me with tears in his eyes, Rudy follows my eyes until he lands on Max, he stands up straight wrapping his arm around my shoulders Max starts making his way over, Rudy pulling me closer to him.
“I see the new couple are getting along,” Max says crossing his arms, trying to act like he wasn’t upset but I could see through that.
“Yes Savannah’s great” Rudy smiles rubbing his hand over my arm, as his parents walk over asking if everything was fine l.
“Of course I’m just saying congratulations to the new happy couple, I heard about the wedding,” Max says fake smiling, that everyone could see through.
“You don’t have to like what’s happening but learn to accept it, Savannah and I are getting married whether you like it or not,” Rudy says walking us away from them.
“Good save” I whisper.
