Chapter Fourteen

Book:Impossible Mates Published:2024-5-1

We pull up at the house, Ryan running down the steps and towards the car, as soon I’m out the door I’m wrapped tightly in his arms. I look up to see Martha walking out the house with her arms crossed.
“I told you they’d be fine, even if it was a stupid idea,” she says mainly looking towards Harry, who slowly got out the car looking annoyed himself.
“Get off my back women, I decided to go out, get over it,” he says storming straight passed her and into the house, she looked shocked for a second but that soon turns to anger.
“Harry!” She shouts running after him leaving Ryan and I outside, who still wasn’t releasing me from the tight hug.
“I was so worried, I woke up to find you not there, I thought the people that have my parents got you too,” he says pulling away looking at me, he had tears in his eyes which made me feel so bad, I knew I should have left a note.
“Harry wanted to take me to see all the places around here, I didn’t want to wake you up,” I say having to think on the spot due to Harry making me not tell anyone where we actually were, for some unknown reason.
“Next time please tell me,” he says, I nod with a smile as Martha walks out the house still annoyed.
“I don’t know what his problem is, but he’s locked himself in the bedroom like a child,” she says, Ryan takes my hand leading me into the house, Martha, following close behind.
“Harry!” he shouts up the stairs but didn’t get a response, he looks to me before shouting again  “Harry get down here now!” he sounds like a parent, this time you heard sounds of footsteps and a few curse words, Harry appearing on the top of the stairs.
“Now we’re all in the same place and no one’s arguing we can talk, Harry next time you decide you want to show my mate around let someone know, Savannah, if you wanted someone to show you around we all, could have gone,” Ryan says looking between Harry and I mostly, I give Harry a look he knew I didn’t want to lie to Ryan but it’s what I had to do apparently”how about we all go out for a picnic somewhere?” He asks, I take another look up at Harry who looked down to me then back at Ryan.
“Fine, I’m getting changed,” he says walking up the stairs back to his bedroom as Martha spoke up.
“Savannah and I just can make the food, right?” She asks smiling at me while I look towards Ryan who smiles nodding, I thought she’d be angry at me for taking her mate.
“Yeah sure” I smile following her into the kitchen just before I make it we all hear Ryan shout
“oh thank you, Ryan, you know that’s fine!” He shouts making us all laugh.
A couple of hours pass before we start making our way over to the picnic spot, I changed out my jeans to high waist denim shorts and a plain white top with a pair of sandals, as it was a hot day. Harry calmed down from earlier and is back to his smiley self, we lay out the blanket and setting all the food out as Harry’s phone started ringing.
“I’ve got to take this, just a minute,” he says answering the phone walking away leaving us three sitting there, I didn’t think much of it at the time.
“Sorry about him, whenever he gets a call he always drops whatever he’s doing” Martha smiles at us, well mostly at me.
“Don’t I know it, we were literally driving one day his phone rang, he made me hold the phone to his ear for 40 minutes” Ryan says smiling a little  “I couldn’t say no cause I know if I wanted to speak to a person that bad, I’d make whoever I’m with do the same” he says I look over at him.
“Oh really,” I say which makes his eyes go wide when he realised what he said.
“I would never make you do it, cause you’re the only person I would drop everything to speak to,” he says quickly grabbing a sandwich shoving into his mouth.
“Good save” I laugh as Harry runs back over smiling sitting next to Martha, also taking a sandwich.
“Who was on the phone?” She asks Harry just shrugs his shoulders grabbing another sandwich, wow he’s eating them quick.
“Harry slow down,” Ryan says but he doesn’t listen and takes another one, okay what’s up with his dude?
“Harry!” Martha says grabbing his hand but he pulls away standing up walking away.
We all sit shocked looking at each other everyone wearing the same expression, confusion.  Martha stands walking over to where he stood. I look around the field we were in, I didn’t want to make it seem like I was earwigging their conversation, I look at the patch of the land a memory starting to fill my head.
It was a hot day so my parents took me and some grown-ups with their kids for a picnic, my dad carries me to a huge field where a woman was already laying a picnic blanket down.
“Sorry we’re late, Melissa took a long time to get ready, Yasmin and I decided to go ahead” he smiles at the women placing me down on the picnic blanket, where another little boy sits who was around my age.
“Oh don’t worry we haven’t been here long” the nice women smiles opening containers of food passing the little boy and I both a little sandwich.
My father sat next to me getting one himself smiling down at me.
Harry and Martha’s shouting brought me out my thoughts and back to our picnic, they were shouting about something I didn’t care to listen as it was none of my business.
“Are you okay you spaced out?” Ryan asks beside me smiling, but looked a bit worried too.
“I had a flashback I think,” I say turning so I could speak to him properly “my birth father was alone this time, we were having a picnic with what I think was their friends, they had a son around my age and I know my birth mothers name, it was Melissa,” I say listing all the things that happened, probably not in the order which they did.
“Where have I heard that name?” He says putting his hand on his chin thinking.
I didn’t know at the time, but this was a step closer to finding my birth parents.
