Sunny’s POV
I was looking down the whole time while Damon and I were walking through the street. No one’s speaking between us after what just happened.
I still can’t believe Jared did that to me.
I thought he was nice. I even thought that I could give him my heart and have him as my first boyfriend but I was wrong. Maybe Kayla was right, I’m so gullible.
“Where do you want to go now?” Damon finally spoke.
“I just want to go home.” I mumbled.
“But I don’t want to go home yet.” He said.
I didn’t answer him.
I’m not comfortable with him ever since what happened that night. And he even told Kayla and Jared that he loves me a while ago. For sure he did that just so I wouldn’t look so pitiful.
“I will just ride a bus.” I said as I was about to walk away but he grabbed my hand.
“Sunny.”
I looked at him without any emotion on my face. “By the way, thank you for saving me a while ago. You even have to lied in front of them just so I wouldn’t look like a total loser.”
“I didn’t lie.”
“Damon, we already talked about it, right? You even told me that we no longer need to pretend.”
“I didn’t say that just to save you.” He repeated.
“W-What?”
Damon stopped walking and looked at me. “The pretention is already done, Sunny. The reason why I get so mad whenever I see you with some other guy, the reason why I always annoy you, the reason why I always want to see you, the reason why I-I kissed you… All of that was because I love you.”
And the moment that he said those words, my heart seemed like it stopped beating. I looked at him with my eyes widened. “W-What did you say?”
“I love you, Sunny. I love you so much. And I no longer want to just pretend as your boyfriend, I want to be your real boyfriend.” He said while staring straight into my eyes.
I stared at his eyes and waited for the moment when he would say that he was just kidding me but he didn’t. He was just standing in front of me, the sincerity was in his eyes.
Minutes have passed and we were still staring at each other.
He was surprised when I suddenly burst into laughter. “W-Why are you laughing? W-What’s funny?” he asked innocently.
“Your face! Hahaha! Your face is hilarious! Hahaha!”
“M-My face?” he touched his face as if trying to find something. “W-What’s wrong with it?”
I continue laughing. “Being so serious doesn’t suit you! Hahaha!”
His brows furrowed. “What? What do you—Are you saying that I look like a fool?!”
“I didn’t say anything like that.” I replied, trying to hold back my laughter.
“You nerd, you haven’t really changed! I already told you that I love you but you still managed to make fun of me?! Do you know how hard I tried to say that in front of the mirror just so I could say it clearly in front of you?!!” he began sulking like a kid.
I laughed even louder. “You even practiced that in front of a mirror? Don’t tell me you practiced kissing your mirror too?”
“W-What?! Of course not! Are you a fool?! Why would I even have to practice that when I even had sex with so many women already?!”
“Oh, really? Now the whole world knows it.” I said as I looked around us.
His eyes widened upon realizing how many people were already laughing while looking at him. Damon glared at me. “You nerdy!! You will surely regret doing this to your boyfriend!!” he yelled as he began running towards me.
***
“Do you really like that asshole?” Damon asked me while we were riding the cable car.
I looked at him and smiled. “Almost. I almost liked him. I thought that he’s a good guy. I thought that he could be my first boyfriend since he showed me that he truly cared for me. But I was wrong. I shouldn’t have trusted him.”
“Are you sad because he didn’t become your boyfriend?”
“Hmmm…”
“H-Hey! Why are you even thinking?! Don’t you have respect? Your boyfriend is just right in front of you!”
I shook my head. “I think I’m sadder because of the fact that I trusted him. I already considered him as one of my precious friends. Now I understand how betrayal feels like. Maybe that is one of the reasons why people sometimes prefer to be alone than to be with somebody. Because we wouldn’t know what someone’s true intentions are.”
“That’s right. We wouldn’t always know what a person’s intentions are. But that doesn’t mean that you should never trust again. After all, trust is inevitable. We keep on trusting people not because we wanted to, but because we need to. And if they betray us, it’s not our loss, it’s theirs. They lost someone who’s willing to trust them, while we just lost someone who doesn’t deserve our trust.”
“That’s right.” I clapped while looking at him. “Why do you talk like an old man every single time?”
He flicked my forehead. “Because you’re an idiot.”
“What?! How dare you call your girlfriend an idiot?!”
“So, you’re saying that you are my girlfriend now?” he said teasingly.
I moved away from him. “I-I didn’t say anything like that.”
“You just said it!”
“No, I didn’t!”
Damon suddenly grabbed me by the hand and pulled me close to him. Our faces were just an inch close from each other. “You didn’t?” he asked while looking straight into my eyes.
“You’re my boss, right? My Sassy Boss.” I said while smiling.
“That’s before. But now, I’m your boyfriend.” He whispered, shifting his gaze from my eyes and lips.
“My Sassy Boyfriend, huh?”
He smiled. “Uh-huh.”
I closed my eyes as he was about to claim my lips but then someone suddenly knocked on the cable car’s door so I immediately pushed him away that he fell to the floor. “Ouch!” he yelled.
“S-Someone’s knocking!” I whispered.
Damon cursed as he stood up. “What?!!” he asked the person at the door.
“S-Sir, someone would ride this cable car already. Y-Your time is up.”
“Fuck the time! Next time, make sure to let us finish first, do you understand?!”
“Damon!” I looked at the man. “S-Sorry, my boyfriend has a mental illness so please understand him,” I said as I dragged Damon outside the cable car.
