Lily looked up and scowled at him. Really, she thought angrily. In what world would she not want to be woken up?
“We didn’t find much though. Chicken Alpha was too busy screwing the vamp tracker,” he said, sounding as irritated as she felt.
“Figures! Damn werewolves. You’re nothing but a bunch of nymphos,” she swore standing up from the bed.
“You’re? I don’t think I’ve done anything to earn being called a nympho,” he shot back, grinning at her.
Lily rolled her eyes with a snort. “Do I need to remind of that night in the woods and then in the hotel room?”
“The night in the woods was all you,” he demanded. “I told you to stop but you wouldn’t listen. I was practically violated,” he said with a pout then got a wicked, sly grin. “And the hotel room, well you were asking for it.”
A smile started to break across her face but she turned it into a smirk. “Whatever Lacrosse. If that eases your guilty conscious,” she told him, grabbing a blood bag and biting into it. The cold blood made her gag almost as badly as the real food did now. Yet she was hungry and James was starting to smell yummy.
“That’s your last one,” he said and she wasn’t sure if he was asking or telling. “What are you going to do now?”
“How the hell do I know? It’s not like there is a friggin book about how to be a vampire,” she snapped at him then went back to draining the bag.
He frowned as he watched her drink. “Lily you should talk to the vamp lord tonight,” he said, the concern now all over his face.
She scoffed when she finished and tossed the empty bag into the cooler. “Why the hell should I talk to Pumpernickel?”
“Because you’re like the Bram Stoker’s version of that Snickers commercial,” James insisted. “And that’s with blood to drink!”
“I am not,” she demanded petulantly, still feeling hungry.
He crossed his arms over his chest and gave her a sharp look. “Uh huh. You look about three seconds from stomping around here, throwing a fit because you can’t have one more piece of candy. Admit it.”
“James, did you want me to bite your damn ass,” She demanded, feeling angry but also knowing he was right. She just wasn’t in the mood to admit it yet.
“I think we covered that BDSM and pain infliction doesn’t do it for me,” he said with a smirk.
Lily exhaled through her nose and glared at him. “James, do not poke the angry, hungry hybrid or you’ll find yourself with a lot less blood flowing through your veins,” she warned him.
James sent her a wink but walked up to her. “It’s yours if you need it,” he told her before giving her a kiss on the cheek.
She swatted at him. “Oh don’t get sappy or you’ll make me throw up,” she complained.
He laughed and grinned at her. “Yes, I love you too. Now do you want to come with me – no, that’s not an innuendo so no nympho comments” he started, sending her a smirk which earned him a head shake and glare. “I thought we could do some more tracking? You said you know this Veronica’s scent and you worked with the vamps masquerading as Aequivalere so maybe we can identify more of them.”
That was actually a good idea and she’d love to do something other than sitting around all day feeling anxious and hungry. “I suppose that’s a good idea,” she said offhandedly, still not ready to admit he could do or say anything right.
“Alright sweetheart, then let’s go,” he told her with a wink.
“Call me sweetheart and I’ll rip out your tongue,” Lily threatened.
“Oh, I love it when you talk dirty,” he said in a low husky tone as she neared him.
“And people wonder why I’m violent,” she said with a sigh, opening the door. Lily jerked back violently, falling to the floor. She covered her head with her arms as she screamed in agony. The smell of her own burning flesh filled her nose.
“Lily, are you alright? What happened,” she heard James ask her, sounding panicked.
Trying to ignore the pain and her own panic, she took a few deep breaths and pushed the balance towards her beast. Her skin tingled with the closeness of the possible shift and her face healing. “Yeah, peachy,” she replied her voice gruff. “It didn’t happen to snow while I was asleep did it?”
“Yeah, why?” James asked, helping her stand.
