“No, mate you will rest,” he demanded. She stomped her foot in anger as she yelled out in frustration.
“Listen here you big hairy, smelly mutt! I’m not leaving this place until I find A. J.” she demanded and the beast roared at her, letting her know that he wouldn’t allow her to risk her health. He could see her surprise at his reaction. While he didn’t enjoy frightening her, he had no other choice.
“My mate will do as she is told,” he warned her. “You are weak and need rest.” Beast wouldn’t lose his mate when he now won the right to her. “I will look for the pup,” he added. He’d rather lose pup before losing his mate. They could always make more pups, but he only had one mate. He, of course, knew better than to tell her this. Mate was a good mother and would protect pup no matter what.
“You? There is no way you can get near him,” she demanded. “You’ll scare him to death,” Lily yelled at him, but he ignored her. “Pup will be fine, mate. You don’t worry,” he insisted. Beast lifted her into his arms, once again ignoring her many worded complaints. He carried her to the old alpha’s house, halfway there she fell asleep. Once mate was safe, Beast gave control back to James. He could find the pup easier than beast since beast couldn’t go to man places like James.
James stepped out of the shower feeling like a new man. He looked at his reflection in the mirror. Most the bites had healed. The burns on his wrists would take longer. He really did hate silver. Quickly dressing, he met Tony downstairs. “Everything ready?” He asked the alpha.
“Almost, Keon is waiting on a few more people then we’ll head out. Dad’s here now that the doctors say she’s in the clear. Between him and Greg, they’ll make sure that if Lily wakes up, she stays here,” Tony explained then pat James on the shoulder. “We’ll find him. Don’t worry.” They better. His wolf could callously lose a child, but James knew it would nearly destroy Lily if not completely and him. He just now became a father.
He wasn’t ready to give that up, now or ever. “Let’s go outside and see how it’s going,” Tony said, slapping James on the shoulder. James nodded, preferring to keep busy so he didn’t have to think. Think of A. J. in the hands of vampires. Think of what they could be doing to him with the vampire king now gone. Rage and fear swelled in him, making him sick and desperate. He begged the powers that be to protect his son and that they wouldn’t be too late.
Outside Keon was ordering his men this way and that, getting ready to storm the mansion Silvano had been in. “Alpha, we can leave in ten,” Keon told them as soon as he noticed them.
“Good, remember all vamps are to be eliminated on site but our main goal is your nephew,” Tony said, walking down the stairs. Suddenly shouts went into the air and James raced down the stairs to see what was going on. Dorin, Donovan, and Evangeline were walking towards them with hands up.
“Easy,” James shouted and stomped to them. “Did you know,” he demanded.
“I doubt it but since we don’t fully know what’s going on but I can’t say for sure,” Dorin replied. “Jessie and Charlie are MIA for two days and we couldn’t get through to HQ so we came here to talk to the alpha to find out what was going on when your guys gave us such a warm welcome.” James eyed the vampire and the others, not sure if they could trust them.
“The vampires have attacked us, taken our children. Jessie has been aiding the vampire king. Helping hide him and probably planned the attacks,” he explained. All three instantly reacted with shocked expressions.
“How do you know she went turncoat?” Donovan demanded.
“She told me so herself when she decided to come gloat when I was held captive,” James replied and Dorin made a small scowl with a disgusted look. “I don’t know where she is now, but Silvano is dead. I killed him myself. Lily’s fought him, but A. J.’s kidnapping has weakened her.”
“What? Little boo was taken,” Evangeline asked, horror on her face with tears welling in her eyes. The expression was mirrored on the fairy and Vampire’s face as well. Again he prayed to all who would listen that they were honest and that he could trust them.
“Yes and he’s still missing. We’re moving to search where Silvano was holding up, hoping we’ll find him there. You’re free to join us,” James told them as his phone started to ring. He walked away from the others and answered it.
“If you want to find your son then listen closely and tell no one,” a man said immediately. James stiffened with a growl. “Are you listening or should I call back later,” the speaker snapped.
“I’m listening. Who is this?” James demanded.
“I sure hope you’re intelligent enough to know that I’m not going to answer that question,” the speaker said. “Now here is what you have to do. Come to your apartment with Andrew Roberts. Just you two or you’ll never see the boy again. Do you understand?” Andrew? Why Andrew? James wondered but agreed to do ask he asked.
“Good, you have thirty minutes or we’re gone,” he finished and hung up before James could say anything. He looked over to Tony and walked over to him. “Tony, I just got a call. They have A. J. He wants your dad and me to go to my apartment if we want to get him back.” Tony looked at him with a confused expression that mirrored James own confusion. “I have no idea why your dad too but I have to check on this. It could be real or attempt to keep me from the mansion.”
“Alright, you and dad go check that out. If you need anything, send me a call. We’ll move on to the mansion. We’ll hit both fronts at about the same time and get A. J. back,” Tony explained and James nodded in agreement.
“Sounds like a plan,” James said and gave his friend and alpha a quick hug before going back into the house to get Andrew.
“And he asked for me specifically to come with you,” Andrew asked as they reached his apartment. “Why me?”
“I don’t know. It’s just what the caller said, you and me, here,” James replied, taking out his keys but stopping at the sight of his missing door knob. The bastard broke his door! He walked in but stopped at the sight of an old Native American sitting on his couch with A. J. on his knee.
“Daddy,” A. J. chimed, climbing down the man’s knee and ran over to him as Andrew had an expression of surprise on his face.
