“We’ve captured five men, two werewolves and three humans. We’ve been keeping them together under surveillance but so far none of them have spoken very much,” Nick explained as the elevator traveled to the top floor. “We’re going to start on the wolves as I don’t think the humans are going to know much of anything. I will be doing all the talking,” he continued, giving Lily a pointed look before he went on. “Until I need you to do your vampire thing.”
“My thing, huh?” Lily repeated with a smirk. “And despite what you may think. I do know how to keep my mouth shut,” she told him as the elevator stopped. “I simply chose not to.”
“That’s my girl,” Donovan said, sending a wink in her direction and Lily grinned sending him a wink back.
“There isn’t a day I don’t pity you,” Nick said to James who wasn’t looking at all pleased with the exchange. It only made Lily laugh as she followed Nick out of the elevator. “Bring out one of the wolves. Take him to 604,” Nick demanded as they walked to said room. The furniture in this room was gone except for a single chair in the center of the room. The curtains drawn, allowed a little light to enter into the room besides the light fixture overhead.
Lily heard James take in a sharp breath and his face grew down right stony. “You alright there James,” She asked and he glanced to the others before saying a word.
“This just reminds me a little of how Silvano had me,” James replied. Lily glanced to the others as well who seemed busy with preparing or the integration. She looked gave to him gave him a small smile and pat his arm, in a show of support. He made a soft scoff and gave her a smirk. “That’s the best you can do?”
“For now,” she replied, giving him a flirty smile then turned serious as two werewolves brought in another. He was struggling against the two others that held him and forced him into the chair, binding his wrists and feet in silver. The werewolf cried out as the metal began to react against his skin. James shifted his weight from one foot to the other, looking rather uncomfortable.
“Do you know who I am,” Nick demanded and the werewolf sneered at him.
“A dead man soon,” the werewolf replied. Nick’s jaw tightened but he gave no other indication of his irritation as he repeated the question and waited for the werewolf to respond. The whole time Nick kept a unwavering stare on the bound werewolf. “Yes, I know who you are. Alpha of the North Montana territories,” he finally caved.
“Good. Now tell me what were you doing in that building?” Nick demanded and again the wolf sneered at him but the alpha just stared him down until he cracked.
“We had to keep the human girl and her keeper in and everyone else out.”
“By who,” Nick questioned and yet again had to wait until the werewolf’s resistance caved.
“Vincent, a vampire,” he snapped out. “And no I don’t know anything else about him or what he wanted. He just told us to make sure they stayed there.”
“Who’s pack do you belong too or are you rogue?”
“I’m rogue. We all are,” the werewolf replied, his resistance seemed to have disappeared now.
“Where is Vincent’s daytime resting place?”
“I don’t know. No one does. He just comes and goes as he please. He’s the boss after all. I just follow orders,” the wolf answered.
“Funny. A rogue following orders. How did this Vincent find you?”
“How does anyone find anyone? Word of mouth to the right people who spread it to more right people,” the rogue explained.
“Good. Now depending on if you’ve told me the truth or not we’ll see what we do with you. Hybrid, he’s all yours,” Nick said, backing away. Lily felt a flare of irritation but knew exactly why Nick had addressed her as such. The wolf’s eyes widened and the stench of his panic filled the room.
“What are you going to do? I told you all I know,” he demanded as Lily slowly walked towards him, giving her vampire more control.
“Good, then this will be quick and easy,” she said, stopping in front of him and kneeling so they were eye to eye. Her eyes flashed red and the rogue relaxed. His face went blank of all emotion. “What is your name,” she asked.
“Brian,” he said in a dull voice and with no hesitation.
“Alright Brian, time we had a chat,” she began and repeated the same questions Nick had. The rogue wolf had given the same answers, more or less, as he had with Nick. The only major difference was when Lily asked about his duties. Vincent made it clear none harmed her half-sister but Bonnie hadn’t been as lucky. By time he’d finished, it took all Lily’s willpower to not rip out his throat and beat him with it.
She released him of her persuasion and Nick has the two werewolves that brought him in, take him back out. Next they brought in the other werewolf and then the humans, all one by one. The questions remained the same and so did the answers. When they questioned all of prisoners, they only really knew that Vincent was in charge. Lily had left the others to find Bonnie. She had a few questions for her. She found the blonde watching over the still sleeping girl.
“You escaped from that place and told Zander what was going on then went back. Why? Why go back after what they had done to you?” Lily demanded.
“I am guessing you know my history? How I helped Xavier kidnap Wendy and other children to experiment on as long as he’d do the same for Zander,” she asked. Lily nodded, sticking her thumbs in her jeans pockets.
“I might as well have told him he wasn’t good enough for me. That has to be the worst thing a mother can do to their child. The one who wasn’t good enough was me. I failed him so bad and when I saw Tristen I knew I couldn’t make the same mistake again. So despite being spat on, bullied, and beaten and… well I knew I couldn’t fail her like I did him,” Bonnie said.
Lily sat down, watching the girl sleep for a moment before looking back at Bonnie. “What do you know about Vincent?”
“Not much besides he’s a sociopath. He has no empathy or concern for life. Everyone is terrified of him. He doesn’t give you second chances unless, like Tristen, he needs you. I didn’t interact with him much and usually we only discussed her. I think he’s old. I had to remind. Him she needed to eat, bath and such.”
“God,” Lily muttered, running a hand over her face. She couldn’t image the hell that girl had been through and it was all because of her. Guilt struck at her core but it was quickly followed by anger. She was going to make that blood sucking leech pay for what he done! He would regret the idea he even heard of the hybrid!
“I am going to kill that Vamp,” Lily swore angrily as she got some food for the girl, Tristen.
“So you’ve said at least five times now,” James replied with an amused grin at the edge of his mouth. Lily gave him an unamused look through narrowed eyes. “Yeah, yeah, go give your sister her food. I’ll get us some lunch or in the meantime,” he told her. Lily scowled at him then stuck her tongue out at him leaving with a plate. He laughed, as he continued to pile on the food and sat down at a table.
To distract himself from the food until Lily came back, James thought of the girl. What kind of effect would this have on her? He remembered it had taken him a long time to adjust when he escaped after his two-year captivity. Lily seemed to be handling it all well, also. He had been worried that she would feel guilty and go on a self-destructive path. So far she was only vowing to kill this Vincent every few minutes. That wasn’t bad.
“Earth to James,” Lily demanded, snapping her fingers before him.
“I’m here,” James said after blinking a few times to get his eyes to refocus. “That was quick. I thought you might like to spend some sister bonding time with her.”
Lily scoffed and sat down across from him. “James she doesn’t know I’m the hybrid and I plan on keeping it that way. So no, there won’t be any sisterly bonding anytime soon.”
“What, why?” James asked and gave her a confused look. He knew family meant a lot to her. Why wouldn’t she want to talk to Tristen?
“It’s better for her this way. It will be easier for her to go back the less she knows,” Lily told him picking at the food before her. She ate a piece of bagel then gagged. She took a slow deep breath and picked up a piece of bacon and took a cautious bite then sighed with relief. “Looks like I’m almost purely a carnivore now,” she said, nibbling on the bacon.
“So the vampire side still doesn’t like real food… except for bacon?” James asked with a light laugh.
