The Next Step
Amber likes Matt. The dates and the now the sex, has been terrific, but she still is not ready to get more serious with him. She worries she is running out of time and cannot afford to make another mistake. She does intend to see him more. Even though he has been special, she wants to move slowly and carefully.
Amber talks to Kelly about it. “I wish I were sure about him, I just don’t know.”
“It’s fine being cautious. I think you should enjoy the time with Matt and get to know him better. He seems nice…you don’t want to scare him off.”
Amber admits, “He is a nice guy.”
“He might be the one you are looking for, I know you are freaked out about him being a firefighter…but give it a chance.”
Kelly tells Amber about her old high school boyfriend. She normally does not talk about him. They had been girlfriend-boyfriend, off and on from the time she was eleven. It ended when he went off to college, when she was eighteen. He was her first lover. He took her to the prom and they went out every week the last year they were together.
“Amber, I want you to hear this story because he was a guy I cared for and he got away.”
Kelly tells her they had broken up several times over the years. She had even given back their going steady ring. They still saw each other and continued to be sexually active most of the last year, before he went to college in Los Angeles. She only saw him a few times after he went to college, and she was never intimate with him again.
“I tell you this story so you will not make a mistake and let the man of your dreams become the man of your nightmares.”
“What happened to him?”
“When he went off to college in Los Angeles, he met a girl, married her, and moved to North Carolina. I have not seen him in over 15 years.” Kelly still thinks of him often and tries not to get mushy in front of Amber.
They talk a little more about guys. Amber feels a little better about Matt but also feels sorry for Kelly.

Matt and Amber have been chatting on email daily since she had dinner at his place. He has also called her on the phone a couple of times. Then he calls and invites her to a big Fourth of July celebration in the Napa wine country. “This is only a day trip, Amber. I have to work the next morning.”
The Napa, Sonoma wine country is only an hour and a half drive. It is an easy day trip through the vineyard covered hills on the backside of the Coastal Mountains of California. The area is dotted with dozens of wineries, hundreds of restaurants, and plenty of places to drink a glass of wine. Many of the wineries offer tours and wine tasting. The Fourth of July celebration includes a parade down Main Street in the afternoon and a large fireworks display at night.
“It sounds like an interesting outing, I would love to go.”
“I’ll pick you up that morning, and we can get breakfast on the way up. That will give us time to hit a couple wineries before the afternoon parade. Wear something patriotic, you know red, white, and blue, or stars and stripes.” They work out the details on time and other stuff to bring.
He arrives right on time, as usual, at her house the morning of the Fourth. They stop for a quick breakfast at the Dove coffee shop in Vacaville. It is a family restaurant right on the freeway. They get to the winery area by 10:30 a. m. They drive down the main highway looking at the different wineries. They pick one, tour the gift shop, and taste a few of their wines. Matt buys a bottle of the wine they liked the best. They work their way down the road checking out a couple more wineries and tasting their offerings.
It is almost noon, when they get to a larger winery offering a tour of the place. They join the next tour that is almost ready to start. The tour starts in a darkened room featuring a slide show of how wine is produced. Amber and Matt are standing near the back wall watching the show; Matt has his arm around her. As the show proceeds, she feels Matt’s hand touch her ass and softly rub her butt cheeks through her jeans. No one can see them, and Amber moves her hand to the front of his pants directly over his cock. They enjoy the show, while feeling each other up as if they were a couple of teenagers. Before the lights come back on, Matt is hard and Amber is wet. Matt holds her hand throughout the rest of the tour.
After the tour, they enter the wine tasting and sales area. Matt sticks with water at this place…he is going to have to drive. Amber does try a couple of wines and they buy the one she likes the best.
They make it back to town in time to get a sandwich before the big parade. Matt brings a blanket from his truck, and spreads it out on the curb for them to sit—watching the parade. The parade features local high school bands, several military groups, and a wide range of floats. The floats feature the local boy scouts, clubs, dance organizations, and other groups. It is small town fun—ideal for the Fourth of July. The music is pure patriotic with American flags and red, white, and blue everywhere. A military color guard comes by with a band playing America the Beautiful. People are standing up, applauding, and mouthing the words to the song. Matt and Amber are on their feet. Amber notices Matt is getting a little choked up with it all. He has a small, little tear he brushes away quickly, before anyone can see it.
When the parade ends, they walk holding hands the couple of blocks to the main park. Here they have all the old-fashioned games and contests. There are foot races, pie and watermelon eating contests, and even a greased pig, kids are trying to catch. It was like going back in time to the good old days.
They have been nibbling on food most of the day. The wineries had cheese and crackers, and they had a sandwich for lunch. They decide on a light dinner at a small local restaurant. It is simple and perfect for the evening. They are sorry it is only a day trip. They would both have enjoyed spending the night together in a hotel. It would have been a first for them, but that first will have to wait.
