“I couldn’t.”
Before we could continue the front door swings open and Tyler walks in the house.
He immediately turns to us, and his eyes go dark.
“Who were you with Anna? I can smell it on you.” He walks up to us.
That was fast.
“I went for a run, and another she-wolf showed up, I guess her scent got on me.” I lie again.
“Anna don’t lie to me.” He says seriously.
“What are you talking about I’m not-”
“I can smell another male on you.” He cuts me off.
“I’m going to go.” Katy gets up and goes to the kitchen.
I slowly turn back to Tyler, he has his arms crossed over his chest and a serious look on his face.
“Anna who were you with?” He asks slowly and impatiently.
“I was… running… in the woods.” I smile, he can obviously tell I’m bending the truth.
“With?”
“Myself.”
“Anna you went alone!” He bursts.
I look down at my hands resting on my lap. “Yeah, but I’m fine.” My voice cracks.
His face softens, and he sits beside me on the couch.
“What happened?” He asks.
I take a deep breath. “A man was chasing me, and I didn’t know what to do,” I explain as tears threaten to fall.
I could have died, how could I have been so stupid to have thought I could be a rouge. I wouldn’t last a week. Why does life have to be so messed up sometimes, it’s so unfair. All I want to do is disappear and never come back to any of this drama.
“Anna you could have been killed, hurt, he could have…” He yells. “How could you have been so clueless!”
I keep looking down at my fingers as they lightly tap on my thigh. All I seem to do is make mistakes.
“I Annalee Evens… reject-”
“Stop.”
“It’s what you wanted-”
“It’s what I thought was right.” Tyler cuts me off.
I glance up at Tyler as a single tear slips from my eye. He whips the tear off my cheek and looks into my eyes.
“Anna, you’re so beautiful,” Tyler whispers.
“Why do you keep saying that?” I mutter.
“Because it’s true.” He says as his hand cradles my cheek.
“Tyler I’m scared, what if they get me?”
“I promise, they never will.”
We sat on the couch looking into each other’s eyes, I’ve never felt safer. All I can do now is hope this never ends.
“Anna it’s getting late, you should go to bed,” Tyler suggests.
I stand up from the couch and turn to the stairs.
“You should too,” I call to him before going up to my room.
I walk to my bed and jump on to it, landing on my back. Does this mean something, what just happened? Are we a couple or something. Did Tyler accept that I’m his mate and that he wants to be with me?
I’m acting like a fourteen-year-old girl.
I walk to my closet and change into a pair of pajama shorts and a t-shirt. After I brush my teeth and other stuff, I slip in between the warm covers and try to sleep. But I don’t. Too many thoughts are running through my head. I even keep looking at the window; I’m scared someone is going to climb through and kidnap me in my sleep. I’m acting ridiculous!
