The harrowing news of last night’s deadly shootout has spread far and wide. All media outlets, big and small, are buzzing with the story, notably featuring a clip recorded by a passerby. It shows a red luxury car deliberately causing an accident before fleeing the scene.
Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan are restless, awaiting news about their daughter Agnes. Last night, upon learning where Mary was detained, Agnes raced to the location with murderous intent-to personally kill Mary, who had stolen everything dear to her.
Sensing an ominous feeling, Mrs. Jonathan turned to her husband and said, “Why don’t you send someone to look for her? She’s been out all night. If anything has happened to her, I don’t want to live anymore.”
Mr. Jonathan promptly ordered his subordinates, observing his wife’s profoundly distressed face, “Go find our daughter and bring her back. Don’t bother coming back without her.”
Just as they were about to leave, the men returned and announced, “The young mistress is back! She’s back, sir.”
Overjoyed, Mrs. Jonathan rushed out to find Agnes, her hair a mess, clinging to her mother with joy and terror, sobbing uncontrollably.
“Mom, I’m so scared. I am trying to understand why this happened. What do I do now?”
Mrs. Jonathan, equally horrified, clung tightly to Agnes and urged, “Calm down and tell us what happened. Your father and I will always protect you. No one will harm you.”
With trembling hands, cold as ice, Agnes stuttered, “I… I… I’ve killed someone.”
Both Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan were flabbergasted, exchanging bewildered glances. Mr. Jonathan stepped forward to steady his daughter, “Explain clearly, how did this happen?”
Agnes, still terrified, stuttered, “I just wanted to end her life myself, but as I accelerated towards her, Andrew suddenly drove up. I couldn’t stop in time and seriously injured him. The police are now actively searching for the perpetrator. Dad, Mom, I don’t want to go to jail. Please save me.”
Agnes screamed in fear and anguish. Seeing their daughter in such a state, Mrs. Jonathan felt a wrenching pain. She begged Mr. Jonathan, “You must find a way to save her. She’s all we have. If she goes to jail, I don’t want to live anymore.”
Although he was at a loss, especially after a disastrously failed plan, Mr. Jonathan prioritized his daughter.
He then instructed his henchmen to prepare the necessary travel documents and belongings for Agnes to leave the country.
“For now, I’ll arrange for someone to take you abroad. But the airports and seaports are likely on lockdown. You’ll have to endure crossing the border by land.”
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Jonathan couldn’t hold back her tears any longer.
Certainly!
“How could this happen? Our daughter has never been involved in such dangerous affairs! Can’t you think of something else?”
Mr. Jonathan placed a reassuring hand on his wife’s shoulder.
“Calm down. We’re running out of time; if we don’t act quickly, it will be too late to evade the police when they arrive.”
Agnes clung to her mother, refusing to leave. Mr. Jonathan forcefully pulled his daughter away with no other options and entrusted her to trusted associates, who sped away in a different car.
Mrs. Jonathan chased after the car, pounding her chest in anguished blame. “How could you separate me from my daughter, you heartless man?”
Mr. Jonathan clenched his fists, his face twisted in agony.
“If she’s caught, she could face the death penalty, you realize? This is the premeditated murder we’re talking about. The news is everywhere; no amount of influence will pardon us.”
Suddenly, Mrs. Jonathan went silent. All action paused. She released her grip, a cold shiver coursing down her spine, leaving her speechless. Mr. Jonathan slowly embraced her.
Just then, the sound of police sirens grew nearer. Both looked at each other, realizing impending doom was upon them. When the police car pulled up, officers quickly exited to execute their duty.
The squad leader approached Mr. Jonathan. “What is your relation to Agnes?”
“She’s my daughter,” Mr. Jonathan responded calmly.
The squad leader was not surprised. “Listen closely. Your daughter is charged with intentionally causing a traffic accident. We have verified the evidence. Call her out now or face the consequences.”
After a prolonged silence from the couple, the squad leader signaled for a search. Mr. Jonathan intervened, “You don’t have to look for her. I was the one driving the car at that time.”
Mrs. Jonathan couldn’t believe it; Mr. Jonathan was taking the blame for Agnes. The more he did so, the more she feared their secret would unravel.
Mr. Jonathan left with the police, but not before instructing his wife to wait for his return, confident that these underlings would not pose him any difficulties.
Within a matter of hours, Mrs. Jonathan had nearly lost everything. Her daughter had to flee the country, and her husband was going to jail. She collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.
When Mr. Frank passed away and the publishing house went bankrupt, the truth of their daughter being switched at birth was revealed, plunging Mrs. Jonathan into a despair so deep she nearly took her own life. Though she eventually reunited with her family, she lost them yet again.
Mrs. Jonathan stood amazed, watching the police lead Mr. Jonathan away, her eyes brimming with tears and words failing her. Could all of this be cosmic retribution?
