After years shrouded in silence, the sudden reemergence of his long-lost love, actively reaching out with pressing matters to discuss, imbued Mr. Jonathan with an ineffable joy. Never had he entertained the possibility of rekindling the flame of their lovely affair. In his youth, life’s struggles forced him to forsake love, not from lack of desire but purely by circumstance.
Mrs. Frank’s family had looked down upon him in those days, for his pockets were empty. Yet he bore no resentment, understanding that no parent would willingly marry their daughter to a man unable to fend for himself. For decades, he toiled unrelentingly, harboring no bitterness. As the past returned, he wondered if fate was finally rewarding his undying devotion.
Mr. Jonathan arrived at the rendezvous point early, restless within the confines of his home. Now past his sixtieth year, his youthful vigor had faded. But today, donning an elegant suit that starkly contrasted his daily attire, he resembled nothing less than a distinguished gentleman. He came alone, possibly to shield Mrs. Frank from the unsavory nature of his dealings. He waited in a lavish private room, his heart pounding with anticipation.
Upon her arrival, Mrs. Frank was accompanied by Agnes, led by an attendant. The sound of knocking prompted Mr. Jonathan to invite them in with a resonant voice. The sight of the two women left him momentarily dumbfounded. His eyes, brimming with curiosity, darted to Agnes. Why would this young woman, always seen in the company of that mischievous lad, be present here? Was there more to the story?
He gestured gracefully for them to sit, seeking to break the ice, “Might I ask who this lovely lady is…?”
With a tender, loving gaze, Mrs. Frank looked at Agnes and replied, “This is Agnes – my daughter.”
A mixture of astonishment and a pang of unexplained bitterness overcame him, “And she is also… your daughter,” she added after a weighted pause.
The revelation struck him like a bolt of lightning. He turned to gaze upon Agnes, realizing the stunning, stylish young woman before him was his flesh and blood. Agnes seemed apprehensive, perhaps even fearful, undoubtedly aware of his notorious reputation in the underworld, and the magnitude of this revelation indeed overwhelmed her.
Seeking to soothe her anxieties, he spoke with a previously unknown gentleness, “Do not fear, my child. I will always treat you right.”
Suddenly, a solitary tear trickled down the rugged contours of his face, a testament to emotions he had long kept at bay. The joy of discovering a long-lost daughter and the woman’s return forever etched in his heart made his lips curl into a genuine smile that perhaps had not graced his face in a very long time.
Mrs. Frank, deeply moved, intertwined her delicate hand with her daughter’s and placed it within the weathered grasp of the father, who had been absent for far too long. Tears flowed freely, reflecting the poignant reunion that any bystander would surely admire.
Delving once more into the tale of Mr. Jonathan in the underworld, everyone knows of him as a notorious kingpin, cunning and cold-blooded. Yet, among the women who have crossed his path, none have ever made his heart flutter – not because he’s void of manly emotions, but because the silhouette of another woman has long been cast in the depths of his heart. He has never confided in anyone about this enduring love he has kept shielded within him until happiness once again graced him today.
The heavens genuinely have eyes, as they haven’t forsaken Mr. Jonathan’s genuine affection. He trusts his lover absolutely, believing the innocent girl of yesteryears still exists regardless of life’s unpredictable twists and turns. He believes that while everything might change, the woman he loves will remain forever unchanging.
Having received her father’s love and indulgence, Agnes was like a tiger sprouting wings; not one, not even ten men of Quang Minh’s caliber, could ever rival her. She would make him taste the bitterness of abandonment, coldness, and the feeling of losing everything.
Since the meeting with his daughter, Mr. Jonathan has spent ample time treating both mother and child to shopping sprees, dinners, and various outings – things he had never done before. Other women in his life were merely fleeting, approached only when he needed them, gifted a modest sum, and then never seen again. But now, his life is steeped in familial joy and love.
Today, while shopping, Agnes confided her desire to own a vast company, and the generous Mr. Jonathan promised to fulfill her wish. Gradually, Agnes realized the incredible advantages of having an affluent father.
He could grant her anything, with the simple hope that she and her mother would come to live under his roof. Agnes hesitated, for their father-daughter bond wasn’t as profound, but she agreed due to her grand schemes.
From the day they started living together, Agnes was showered with even more love and pampering from her father. With personal bodyguards accompanying her each time she went out, she lived the luxurious and influential life she had always dreamed of. Now, she had everything she desired and lived in abundance, the only drawback being her father’s line of work, which society condemned.
