Jack told Rachel what had happened.
-Jack said, “Is your mom taking care of Aunt Yanis who has a fever? -Rachel frowned.
Jack nodded.
-How can a pregnant woman take care of someone with a fever, and if she’s infected?
But Jack just knew that Yanis needed someone to take care of her, and Mom was willing to help.
Seeing Grandma Rachel’s worried expression, Jack realized the importance.
-So Mom…
-I’ll call your dad and he’ll take care of it…..
After everyone’s identities were sorted, Raquel had Kennedy’s phone number.
Jorge overheard their conversation, and after Raquel came out, he sat down next to Jack.
-Great-grandfather.
Jack greeted him as if he had just noticed Jorge.
Jorge was excited and a little disappointed.
He had been alone for many years and all he wanted was a family.
Jorge was already thrilled to have such a handsome, intelligent and educated great-grandson.
-Jack,” he replied, smiling with childish glee.
-Aunt Yanis is very good to me, she always cooks for me,” said Jack.
-Really? -Jorge was a little surprised.
-Yes!” Jack nodded.
-I was supposed to stay home to take care of her, but if no one came to eat here, you’d be lonely, so I came to keep you company.
-You don’t mind that I’m the only one here, do you? -Jack tugged on Jorge’s sleeve.
Jorge said nothing.
How could he be unhappy?
Of course, he wanted everyone to go back to dinner.
After all, yesterday’s Christmas Eve dinner had been very lively, even though Kennedy and Jack weren’t there.
It had been a long time since I had been so happy.
After all these years, George could no longer remember much of what happened before.
The memories only made him sad.
Yesterday’s Christmas Eve dinner was indeed the one he remembered most clearly, it was something he longed for.
He had grandchildren, great-grandchildren and daughter, and if his granddaughter-in-law and her friends had come, it would have been one big family.
Jorge smiled brightly at the thought.
Of course, he hadn’t quite accepted his granddaughter-in-law!
-Of course not. Is your name Jack?
-Yes, my full name is Jack Nelson,” Jack explained.
George frowned, a little displeased, “Why Nelson?
-I’m sorry? -Jack wondered.
-It’s your mother’s name, isn’t it? Yours should be Carlos, like your father’s.
Jack Carlos?
Jorge murmured the name that made him so happy.
But, to his surprise, Jack denied it.
-No, even so, my name should be Jack Moore.
Jack knew his father had changed his name to Kennedy Carlos because he had lost his memory.
-I can use my own mother’s last name just like Dad.
So, George had nothing to say.
-So, why is your last name Nelson?
-Mom will tell him that Dad wasn’t around when I was born.
-What? -Jorge’s eyes widened.
-Mom raised me alone.
Jack looked like he was about to cry, “Mom had to work and take care of me, and it was hard every day.
By saying something nice about his mother, Jack made Jorge feel even worse about Kennedy.
Jorge kept silent, knowing absolutely nothing about Jack’s childhood, probably because the boy was so well protected by the Nelson family.
He wondered what had happened then for Alice to raise Jack alone.
Alice had always been good to him, although she knew that George was not happy with her.
He might have eaten more than Alice cooked at that Christmas Eve dinner if Rachel hadn’t stopped him.
Alice always looked at George with gratitude.
And she had raised Jack very well.
George’s opinion of Alice had changed radically.
He thought it was extraordinary that women raised their children alone.
After all, it was very difficult.
However, the two daughters he had worked so hard to raise eventually left him.
