“But she is yours.” Caroline pointed out. “And there can be chances that your condom would have cheated on you. Maybe it would have been damaged or would have some hole in it. Anything like that.” She suggested.
“I trust you, brother. I really do. If you are saying that you have used condoms, then you would have for sure, but sometimes things are out of our hands. But you really don’t know who is the woman with whom you slept a week ago?”
“No,” Calvin replied, shaking his head. “There are some girls with whom I keep things casual, you know.” He added.
“But last week, I woke up beside a woman whom I didn’t know. I didn’t see her face because her head was in opposite directions but finding her unfamiliar scent. I left the room by keeping some money on the table, you know, thinking of her as some prostitute.”
“Please tell me that you haven’t taken drugs that night,” Caroline said, narrowing her eyes on which Calvin looked away.
“Fine. Let’s go to that hotel and check the CCTV footage of that night.” Caroline suggested.
“No use. I have already done that. That CCTV has been deleted by the hotel.” Calvin replied with a frown and gave her a note. “This was the note that I found in the box.”
Caroline grabbed it and started reading it, ‘Enjoy the result of Casanova, and don’t look for me.’
“There can be chances that the mother of your pup has written this OR there can also be chances of this work has been done by the Villain of your story, you know, to frame good person into bad.” Caroline used her mind, trying to think positively.
“Whatever the reason would be… That doesn’t change the fact that I have to raise my pup ALONE. That alone thought scared the hell out of me.”
“Don’t get me wrong, but she cries all the time. It’s hard to identify whether she is hungry or feeling something else.” Calvin complained. “She can’t even speak.”
“As if you had started speaking just a second after your birth,” Sophia said, walking into the room with milk in her hand. “You have to learn everything, son. EVERYTHING from scratch.” She added, taking her granddaughter in her arms.
“And if you won’t then you will find yourself on the street with nothing and trust me, my husband will make sure of that,” Sophia said in a serious tone.
“Dad will throw me out of everything for a pup who is not even his?” Calvin asked in disbelief.
“Interest amount is always more precious than the principal amount. But he won’t do this just because of that reason, Calvin. There is nothing wrong with making a mistake, but one should know how to take responsibility for it. And as our son, we expect the same from you.”
“Hmm.” Calvin nodded. “By the way, what have you thought to name her?” He asked, looking at her, who was drinking milk and was getting tired of sucking the nipple of the bottle after a minute.
Her face looked red at the moment, and her blue eyes were looking around.
“It’s your daughter. Give her a name on your own.” Sophia suggested.
“Me?” Calvin asked in surprise.
“Of course, you. Don’t forget that you named Liara when she was born.” Sophia reminded. “So, go ahead and tell me the name of your daughter.” She added, on which Calvin observed her carefully, noticing her features.
“She is soft like a flower and red like a rose. So, how about we call her ROSE?” He asked.
“It’s beautiful,” Caroline replied before adding, “just like her.
“Agree!!” Sophia nodded.
“Okay then, Her name will be Roselet Sophia Haysbert,” Calvin announced, on which a big smile appeared on Sophia’s lips; after all, her first name was given to her granddaughter. “And the pet name will be Rose? What do you say?”
“I didn’t expect such a beautiful name for my granddaughter.” They heard the voice of Brandon and found him standing near the door. “At least not again from you.”
“Dad, I know you’re upset but don’t you think that you are being partial between daughters and son? Calvin questioned. “If any of my sisters AKA your daughter would have gotten pregnant having no knowledge of her pup’s father then you wouldn’t have said a word to them while you almost slapped me if Mom wouldn’t have come in between.” He added.
“I was going to slap you because you suggested keeping her with us? Why will we raise her? When is her father still alive? And what will you do when we will raise her? Have fun and enjoy your life like a bachelor?” Brandon whispered and yelled, keeping in mind that Roselet wouldn’t start crying again.
Calvin shut his mouth hearing Brandon’s question because it was true that he wanted to skip this responsibility for a while, but it looked like it was not going to happen. Either he had to be a responsible father, or he had to spend his whole life on the streets, and the first option looked better.
“Just cut this topic now. Christmas is after ten days. So, how about we celebrate Christmas here with a small party for Rose?” Caroline suggested, changing the topic. “We will have to buy A to Z belongings of Rose and…, And we will also arrange a photoshoot of her.” She added, looking at Calvin.
“That sounds perfect,” Calvin responded meekly because he was still trying to adjust to the fact that he was a father now.
*****
That night Caroline couldn’t sleep a wink because Rose used to keep crying the whole night at the interval of half to one hour. Even Sophia stayed with her at night, trying to teach her what she had to do and what she had not to do because she was interested in learning in the evening.
While Brandon and Calvin were trying to find the mother of the pup for one last time.
