Chapter 3
“Vara, this man right here named Devereux. He’ll be your date on your debut.” Dad announced while pointing at the man who’s sitting proudly on our single sofa.
That made my jaw drop onto the floor and my eyes widened as I abruptly stood up from my seat.
“What?! mom, dad, I don’t need one for Pete’s sake!” I blurted out.
What the fuck is that? I don’t need a date just to celebrate my debut. If I’m the only one to follow, I just want a simple party. But because of mom, I agreed to do what she wanted to happen.
but it’s not like this. I don’t even know one.
“Baby, he’s a good guy and–” Before she could finish her words, I cut her off.
“I don’t care, mom. There’s no way I would date a man whom I just met in just a matter of hours. I don’t even need a date!” I countered.
“Sit down, Vara. and please, watch your attitude.” Dad ordered and I obliged.
“My apologies for my daughter’s behavior, Lord Devereux.” My father says, looking really apologetically and even bowed his head as if the man is some kind of god or something. I got hurt because of that.
and, he addressed him as ‘Lord’, yeah? What the fuck is that? And why does my father bow down at him? Who the hell is this guy? And what are they doing here?
“It’s okay, Martin, I understand your daughter’s childishness.” Devero – or whatever his damn name – says.
I was so happy to see him. Did he just call my father on a first name basis? And did he just call me childish?
“Excuse me, Lord Deveru-Devurah or whatever your name is I–”
“It’s Devereux.” He corrected me.
“Whatever. I am not a childish, okay? and if being a childish means not wanting to date you, then I’m willing to be one.” I say then rolled my eyes at him.
That guy’s slowly eating my temper!
Annoyed, I got up from my seat and faced mommy and daddy.
“I’ll excuse myself now, mom, dad.” I turned to face another man on the opposite sofa. “Excuse me, Sir.”
I didn’t wait for his answer or approval anymore and even more I didn’t look at that Devereux and I headed up to the room.
I don’t care if they call me rude or what. I just can’t find myself if that one is respected.
He doesn’t even respect my dad. And the way he acts, as if he was some kind of novel men in the Spanish era that really need to be looked up to.
Fuck his personality. for me, he’s nothing but a disrespectful bastard who needs to be thrown in the deepest depth of the ocean of fire.
When I entered the room, I found Von in his old place. Looks like he’s still reading.
I fell down to sit next to him. He just looked at me in surprise then returned his eyes to his book.
“Something happened, what is it?” He asked without even looking at me.
I took a deep breath before answering him.
“That visitor happened.” I answered him then took a throw pillow next to me and placed it on top of my thigh.
“What is that visitor doing?” He imitated my pronunciation of ‘Visitor’ when he asked. But this time, he faced me and pretended to have a throw pillow on his thigh. His book is also closed. seems like, he was now giving his full attention on me.
I gasped in the air as one flashback flashed through my mind of what had happened earlier.
I was disgusted and told him about what was discussed downstairs and he listened to me as if at his age he understood my feelings.
Good thing about his personality is, even though he’s only six years old, he’s matured when it comes to thinking. That’s why, sometimes it’s too much. He’s becoming more of an older brother to me instead of the youngest. Not because of his authority but because of him being rude and bossy.
“Who is this guy, Vara?”
“Dave…” what’s his name again? “I don’t know exactly but it kinda sounds like Devil or Dracula, I think.” I say not sure.
“Which is precisely suited to him, yeah?” He says looking haughty.
“Agreed!” I say as if we were into some kind of sharing ideas.
Then his face slowly turned down as he pouted. “But I’m kinda disappointed to mom and dad.”
I frowned at that. “Why is that?”
“I was actually expecting that I’m gonna be your date, huh.” He says pouting. And he looks so really cute at that.
I can’t help but to smile as what he said. He wants to be my date? That’s so cute about him. he actually doesn’t think according to his age. What a kid.
“I was actually expecting that either.” I say truthfully.
He is my partner even at my last birthday party. It’s the same for his birthday.
Ever since he came into the world, he has always been by my side. he even acted like an older brother to me than a younger one. He has more authority than me.
“Is the visitor still downstairs?” He asked, seriously.
“I don’t know… maybe.” I said not sure.
I frowned as I watched him quickly get off the sofa and then run to the door.
“Where are you going?” I want to ask.
He opened the door first before facing me.
“Downstairs. I’ll tell that visitor to back off. He’s invading my territory.” He says possessively.
I was stunned, unable to stand up from the chair. “What? Von–Hey!” he slammed the door harshly.
“That kid!” I accidentally threw myself on the sofa.
I didn’t bother to follow him, it’s better now, eh. Von is very territorial. What is his, should be his. And he said I was his so… I shrugged the thought off. sometimes… I doubt his age, eh.
Without my own, I looked at the glass door of the balcony. There in the part with the letter in the past.
And it seemed to suddenly echo the words spoken by the two guests earlier.
‘my lady…’
Why does it sound so familiar? especially when I heard it from Devereux. And his voice also sounds familiar… as if I’ve heard him before.
And what was written on my glass door last week, I was addressed by ‘Lady Aivara’ if I’m not mistaken.
Was it just a coincidence?
