Chapter 23: Walking on Clouds

Book:The Unexpected Love Published:2024-5-1

Sharon got up on her feet and slowly walked up to Selina as she gnashed her teeth in bitter hatred, “How dare you come back when you’ve been sent to someone’s bed, Selina? What a promiscuous and shameless woman you are! If it were me, I would rather die than be humiliated!”
As soon as she had finished taunting her for being like a wanton, Aaliyah whom had been standing behind Selina reached out her hand at that moment and gave her a cold hard slap across the face.
“How insolent! Who are you to say such derogatory remarks to Ms. Jones?”
Sharon was dumbfounded as she was spoiled rotten by doting parents since her childhood, so no one had ever dared to hit her like this.
She was left dazed for a few seconds before she had managed to recover her composure, and when she tried to return the favour, her hand was instantly seized by Aaliyah.
It was only natural for Manfred’s subordinates to possess exceptional calibre; take Aaliyah for instance, she was well versed in both literature and martial arts, and thus no one was capable enough to lay their hands on her.
“Ouch, ouch…” Sharon let out a wail as her arm was almost torn apart by Aaliyah. She quickly retreated behind Horace and was reduced to silence after Aaliyah had finally let go of her.
“This is?” Horace stared at Aaliyah with a puzzling look on his face. He never knew that there was someone like her beside Selina throughout their three years of marriage.
Aaliyah threw a quick glance at him and uttered, “I’m Aaliyah, and I work for Mr. Gordon.”
Horace was stunned on the spot after her brief introduction.
“Mr. Gordon? From Far Eastern Group?” He scoffed at Selina after the reason behind her swaggering look had come to light as a sinister look cast over his eyes, “Now I know why you are in such a great mood. It turns out you have successfully played up to Mr. Gordon and hooked up with him!”
“Stop spitting nonsense!” Selina threw the divorce papers onto the table in front of him as she said, “Sign it.”
Horace gave a sniff of contempt after hearing her demand, “Why should I? You should give me some credit for helping you to get involved with Mr. Gordon. You want to divorce me now that I have nothing to gain from this? Not a chance!”
Selina was baffled by his absurd perception. All that he could think of at this moment was how he could benefit from her circumstances?
Selina sneered at him, “You probably are still unaware of what has happened to Franklin, aren’t you?”
Horace frowned slightly, “Have you moved in on him?”
As soon as he had voiced his concern, his assistant entered his office again to deliver him the bad news, “Something bad has happened, Mr. Keith.”
“What’s wrong?” Horace asked in a brooding tone after shooting a glance at Selina.
“A horde of policemen have shown up outside our office!”
“What?” Horace furrowed his brows and glared at her, “What have you done, Selina?”
Selina curled her lips in disdain as she scoffed, “You should direct this question to yourself! Maybe Franklin has missed you while he is feeling bored in the prison, so he wants you to join him on the fun!”
“You…” Horace gritted his teeth as he uttered furiously, “Don’t you think that you will achieve your aim of getting a divorce with me by doing this. My hands are clean, so it’s impossible for Franklin to drag me down with him!”
The policemen had barged into his office when they were still in their dialogue, “Mr. Keith, you are suspected of being involved in a legal case, so please come with us to the station and cooperate in our investigation.”
Sharon instinctively took a step back when she saw that things were getting out of hand, pulling open the distance between Horace and herself.
Horace gave Selina a death stare before his departure as he hissed, “You will never get your divorce with me in this lifetime, Selina.”
After exiting from HT Group, Selina leaned on the backseat of the car as her brows were knitted in apprehension.
She could not comprehend why Horace was still desperately hanging on to her when they were already in such a predicament after all that had happened. Aaliyah proposed to her, “Should I take you home to get some rest now, Ms. Jones?”
“Where?” Selina was momentarily stunned as she asked.
“Mr. Gordon has a suite at the Bishuiwan Community which has been left empty all the while.”
“Alright!” Selina nodded in acceptance of her proposal. She indeed had heard of the Bishuiwan Community which was the most upscale villa district in Russell City, but she never had the chance to step into it.
After dropping Selina off at the suite, Aaliyah proceeded to take her leave to tend to her work matters.
The villa was enormous and magnificent yet unostentatious at the same time, and it seemed like a perfect place to be used as a love nest.
Selina proceeded to unpack her belongings and tidy up the house for a bit, and as soon as she was done with the cleaning, she got a call from Manfred.
“I’m coming back for dinner later.”
“Alright!” Selina nodded her head as inexplicable nervousness started to creep up onto her, “Erm… What do you like to eat?”
“Anything is fine. I’ll leave it up to you!” Manfred hung up on her after he had given her his reply.
Selina contemplated for a while and finally decided to go with the few dishes that she was good at making since she did not have a clue about Manfred’s preference. After she had made up her mind, she left the house right away to do some grocery shopping.
Upon her return, she noticed Manfred was already home, and after a few moments of hesitation at the doorway, she finally entered the villa with the groceries in her hand.
She could spot Manfred’s coat in the living room, but he was nowhere to be seen. Selina went straight to the kitchen to start prepping for dinner.
After Manfred had finished attending to his company’s business affairs upstairs, he came down to find a busy silhouette in the kitchen.
He paced slowly towards the kitchen and leaned against the door, his eyes fixating on the woman whom was dressed in causal loungewear with her hair loosely tied at the back of her head. Her presence had somehow brought some warmth to this big empty house that was usually as cold as marble.
After noticing that he was standing by the door, Selina tried to start a conversation, “I’m not sure whether what I have made will be to your liking.”
“I’m fine with anything as long as they are edible,” Manfred said flatly as he was unexacting towards everything. For someone whom had been at death’s door and had near-death experiences, everything else would likely to be trifles to him.
Selina nodded, “Dinner is almost ready, so you can take a seat in the living room for now.”
“Take your time, there’s no rush!” Manfred smiled and proceeded to wrap his arms around her waist from behind as he asked, “I’ve heard from Aaliyah that Horace is not willing to get a divorce?”
Selina felt slightly uncomfortable with her back leaning against his scorching chest while she stood rigidly and gave out a low hum, “I’m sorry about that. I will try my best to sort out the problem as soon as possible.”
Manfred went silent for a moment, only breathing slowly behind her ear while resting his chin on the back of her neck. His action had caused a tickling sensation to run over her whole body.
“Mr. Gordon…” Selina’s heart started to race from the proximity of their bodies.
“I will ask Osborn to handle this issue, so you don’t have to worry about it anymore,” Manfred uttered suddenly.
Selina was shocked by his unexpected turnabout, and when she was about to continue with the topic, Manfred had already loosened his grip on her.
“Hurry up with the food! I’m afraid I can’t control my hunger anymore if dinner is not ready soon.”
“Alright!” Selina hurriedly nodded, and once she realized that something was off with his statement, she immediately raised her head only to stare into his twinkling eyes. Selina blushed in an instant as she swiftly lowered her head again, trying to focus on the food in front of her.
It was not up until Manfred had left the kitchen that she could let out a deep breath.
When dinner was served, they sat face to face and started to dig in. Selina was paying close attention to Manfred’s actions the whole time as she wanted to take note of his preferences.
After observing for a while, she realized that he was indeed not a picky eater just as he mentioned earlier, and his speed of eating was relatively fast as well. However, it was not to the extent that he was gobbling down the food but rather he was eating like a well-trained soldier.
The realization had surprised Selina as she was perplexed by his actions that were out of line with his identity as the Gordon family’s young master.
After they had finished dinner, Manfred went back to his study after answering a call.
When Selina was done with the clean-up, she just sat on the living room sofa while staring blankly into space, and she soon drifted off to sleep.
A pair of muscular arms had picked her up from the sofa and carried her upstairs slowly when she was in a trance. Soon after that, a domineering kiss jolted her awake as her lips were rubbed with the fervour of a longing man.
“Hmm…” Selina opened her eyes subconsciously and the first thing that she could see was Manfred’s penetrating eyes which were enlarged in front of her.
She never knew that a man’s kiss could be so arousing and enrapturing as their lips and teeth were rubbed against each other. She slowly sank into his deep kiss as his spellbinding tongue further engrossed her, and she felt like she was walking on clouds.
