A basin of cold water was splashed onto her and Selina opened her eyes. Was she dead? Was she in heaven now? If there was another life, she would choose to become a human who can decide for herself. “Hey, is Miss Jones awake?” She heard her stepsister, Sharon Jones’s uncanny tone of voice beside her. “Do you know you have been sent back by the Keith family after cheating on your husband? The reputation of the Jones family is now totally ruined by you!”
“Sharon, what are you talking about?” It was her stepmother, Rebecca Luther. She used to be a hypocrite. Selina looked at the face of Rebecca and Sharon who were gloating over her misfortune and let out a wry smile. It turned out it was not heaven, but hell. She endured the pain on her body, sneered and sat up. “That’s because I have a model at home that derailed and married the other woman. I was just learning from him!”
“You…” Sharon glared at her with rage. “Dad, look at what Selina is saying!” Selina only then realized Marshall Jones was there too. She pursed her lips and had more or less refrained from making him look bad. “Dad, I want to divorce!” she said affirmatively. “No way!” It was Marshall’s voice this time. If not because of Horace’s sponsorship, the foundation of the Jones family is gonna disrupt!”
Selina shuddered and she recalled what Lindsay said to her when she hit her. It was actually true? “What on earth is going on?”
“Selina!” The moment Marshall spoke, he burst into tears. “Please don’t blame your dad, I couldn’t do anything for it too. The Jones family is built by me and your mom when she’s still alive back then, yet it’s gonna ruin in my hand today!” Mommy! Selina remembered her mother’s words, asking her to protect the Jones family when she held her hand before passing away. If her mother was alive…
“This is the last time, I beg you. Please apologize to Horace. As long as the Jones family could survive this difficult situation, we’ll definitely take you back home!” Selina turned around and stared at Marshall. In the hospital, after everything was examined and Lawrence returned after sending the doctor away, he saw Manfred already in his clothes. His cleaned face was extremely delicate and he looked like someone who existed in fairytale. Yet the astute look made him looked powerful. He was now smoking while leaning against the couch lethargically.
“What are you doing? Do you think you’re really tough? The doctor’s said you need at least half a month of rest!” The smoke lingered and shrouded Manfred’s face, only his pair of cold and deep eyes was seen. “You thought those from the Gordon family would let me rest for half a month?” That’s true. Lawrence remembered the surprised look of the doctor when he saw the wounds just now. Those cruel people would not be that kind. “Alright, since you’re discharged, you can still rest when you return! I’ll ask someone to stay by your side!”
“Okay!” Manfred spoke blandly. He then continued abruptly, “Before you go back, help me to retrieve the surveillance footage from the deserted area.” Lawrence was startled and he asked, “What do you want to do with it? Are you feeling nostalgic of your appearance yesterday?” Manfred glimpsed at him and said, “I want to look for somebody.”
“Who?” As Lawrence asked, he suddenly opened up his mouth after understanding something. “Damn! Are… are you masochistic? Could it be you’ve gone addicted towards the woman whom the Gordon family sent to humiliate you?”
“Shut your mouth up!” Manfred replied coldly. “Oh!” Lawrence instantly kept quiet. “I’ll try my best!”
