One year after,
“I’ve come to visit you, dad, finally.”
She placed a basket of flowers into the grave of Gestoni Farrows and gazed at his name.
It’s been months since he was buried but it’s the first time she visited him. She already came from Emily’s grave earlier. Coming into her resting place every day has been her routine.
“I am not like you, dad. I was not corrupted by power. I am still here wanting to leave this all behind.”
Sitting on the ground, she looked at the clear blue sky above her. “Are you feeling good there? What is it like being finally at peace? That’s unfair when you left us all here in chaos.”
For her, forgiveness is still far-fetched. The pain is still fresh and she thought she would never have gotten over the death of her daughter.
But life goes on especially for the people whom she should be strong for.
She already accepted in her heart and mind that being a Farrows is just a part of her past. Until now, she has not talked with her mother. She knows that it would take more than time to reconcile and as of now, she would rather devote the time growing what she has now.
She stood up dusting off her coat in the process when her assistant, Reignus, approached her.
“Madam Druft, the shipment has already arrived in the warehouse.”
“Alright. I need to check it first before sending it to our clients,” she answered in business-tone like. “I cannot let Madam Claudia wait,” she said referring to another head of a mafia group whom she is transacting with.
She assumed the role as the head of Daemon’s group to make sure that it will not fall into the hands of the opportunists. Henry fled away and she never heard from him after knowing the truth from Daemon in his letter that he left in case something goes awry in their plan.
The move created a stir in the field especially when they learned that his wife is taking over. Someone thought she framed him up to be able to rise on top. Some even hypothesized that it was all her plan all along, that she was just acting to be weak to take advantage of him.
She wished it to be true, that she just made it all up, that the truth is she is a strong woman so she could easily take Daemon out of jail.
She will continue to hold this position until her husband’s return.
Her assistant stopped and looked at her confused by her decision. “But Madam, have you forgotten? Today is a very important day for you and for every one of us. We’ve been waiting for this.”
“I know but I have to make sure first that everything is good before I face him. Come on.”
Before leaving, she made sure to glance back at the flowers she left for her father. May it not be the last one she will leave here.
After calling it a day in her life as the temporary mafia boss, she glammed up herself to live the most nerve-wracking day of her life.
Her palms are sweating in anticipation of finally seeing him after a year. Daemon, after a year of suffering in jail, is coming out today.
She had no idea what he looked like now but she bet that nothing had changed in her heart. He is still the man for her no matter what.
She arrived outside the jail an hour earlier to wait for his release. The minutes leading up to the moment cost her so much nerves that she’s practically shaking by the time the gate opened.
And then out came Daemon sporting a clean-cut hairstyle instantly moving his eyes to look for her. He’s gotten more buff and his complexion getting more tanned than ever giving him a more mature masculine look.
They both stood there, not saying anything, just both taking in each other’s appearance.
“Hi…” Devon said softly, not managing to move.
Daemon stopped in his tracks enchanted to see her, his eyes twinkling in happiness.
“Hello.”
The second she heard his voice, she immediately burst into tears. When he opened his arms for her, she closed her eyes and ran to him.
He enveloped her into his arms, his natural scent smells like heaven, as he kissed her repeatedly on the head.
“I miss you,” he said in between kisses. “God, the thought of seeing you like this is the only reason why I’m alive now, Devon.”
She hugged him tighter and buried his face on the nice warmth of his chest.
“Oh you don’t know how I miss you more every second of every day. I miss you so much, Daemon. But in those times, I never for once lost hope that you’ll come out, that we’d be back together again.”
She doesn’t know how he did it but she’s more than thankful for being here with him again.
“You did good. You did so good my love. I heard how you stepped into my shoes. You lead my group and you did it so effortlessly Devon.”
And months of keeping herself sane and in whole is so worth it just by hearing him praise her. It’s like the ultimate things she had gone through for the past months are already nothing just because of his good words for her.
She raised her face at him to which he immediately wiped her tears. “Do you think so? Did I really do a good job?”
“Of course. You did a very good job, Devon. I told you you’ll be fine. Look at you now. You’re stronger than you think you are. You held it all good, my love.”
He swooped her on her feet and kissed her torridly with all the passion in the world just outside the national prison. She responded in the same equal manner feeling his possessive mouth again against her soft lips.
They smiled at each other as Daemon’s eyes looked around. “Where is she? Where is our baby?”
Still crying, she walked to one of her guards to get their baby. Daemon swallowed in obvious nervousness as she gave their baby girl to him. He received their little princess in trembling hands.
“What is her name?” he asked, never leaving his eyes on her.
It was love at first sight.
“Rebecca. She’s Rebecca.”
He sighed very hard and smiled at the baby who’s peacefully sleeping. “Hello, Rebecca. Daddy’s home now and I promise I won’t go anywhere, my princess. I’m sorry if daddy’s been away for too long, okay? I’m sorry I wasn’t able to help mommy while she’s with you. I’m sorry, baby.”
Devon teared up more seeing this scene. This has always been her dream for them, to be reunited with Daemon.
“She looks just like Emily, Devon.” Delightfully smiling, he looked up at her in both surprise and happiness. “She really looks like her.”
“Yes, she is. Emily came back to us, Daemon.”
What happened put tears back right into her eyes for a memory that she will always remember for the rest of her life. Daemon cried, his big tears streaming all the way down to his face down to his shirt.
He cried the loudest as he took their baby closer into his arms with whom he never saw since he was put into jail.
“What did I do to deserve something like this, Devon? All my days inside, I kept on wishing to come out so I could pay Emily a visit not knowing that she would visit me first.”
He put a long gentle kiss on Rebecca’s head and took her hands in his.
“Let’s go, wife?” he asked, pleading. “I want to go home. I want to be with the three of you.”
That statement said all the things she wanted to do all this time with her family.
Devon nodded and smiled at her husband. “Okay, let’s go home.”
They hold hands, Rebecca in his arms, as they walk towards the car with all their men waiting for them ready to live their lives in the best way available, in the happiest way possible.
