“Maddy!” Daemon came running towards them and dragged the woman out before hugging Devon into his chest.
“What the hell are you doing with Devon?!” His eyes threw her an accusing look as he protectively enclosed Devon in his arms who’s still panting for air.
Maddy is berserk when she sees Daemon’s gesture towards the woman. “I’m not doing anything with her! What I said is all true! She’s an irresponsible mother, that’s why she lost your child!”
His jaws clenched as she covered Devon’s ear to keep her from hearing that. She has already heard and seen enough. He’s not going to let her be hurt over the provoking words from this woman again.
If he knew Maddy was here, then he should not have let Devon come with him.
“Shut up already!” he gritted his teeth. “Can’t you see that you are hurting her!?”
Maddy bit her lips to keep herself from bursting into tears. “Who cares? You are hurting me too! Can’t you see that?! Stop attacking my businesses and circulating that video! Can’t you see that my husband wants to divorce me already?” She unrolled the sleeves of her gown to show to him her gray and black bruises. “Look, he’s been hitting me too. He said I was the one who leaked the video when you’re the one who did that!”
But Daemon’s face is devoid of pity or any positive emotion towards her. “It’s not my job to protect you anymore, Maddy. I will keep hurting you until I get satisfied seeing you so badly hurt and down you wanted to disappear from this planet.”
He turned his attention back to his wife who’s trying her best to take long breaths. “Breathe, Devon.”
Maddy smirked and laughed foolishly. “I think you should tell that first to your wife. Look at her, she’s struggling even to breathe!”
“It’s okay as long as I will be by her side. I’m her companion, Maddy. I’ll protect her forever. I’ll be with her for the rest of our lives. In time, she’ll be okay but I doubt that you will be.”
He leaned in to whisper into Devon’s ear soothingly. “Come on baby. Breathe more.”
Maddy cannot help but gasp in pain when she sees how much care Daemon is giving to his wife. Her insides were revolting because that should be her in that position! It should be her that Daemon is comforting after what her husband did to her!
Can’t he see the red marks on her arm? The bruises on her face that make-up barely covered up?
She should be hugged and kissed by Daemon more than what he’s giving to this good-for-nothing woman here!
Suddenly, she dropped down onto the floor and imitated Devon while gasping for air. This should be enough to turn his attention to her!
“You never said that to me even when I’m always there for you! I married that nasty old man just for you Daemon so we could have our revenge together against that Farrows family! And then you are telling me now that you can be in love with an enemy?! No! I can accept you falling in love with another woman but not her! Not with a Farrows that we worked hard to defeat!”
“Devon is not in any way acquainted with the sin of her father. She is apart from the evilness of her father. I know I should not be saying this to you but I want you to stop this already. You already provoked me countless times, Maddy.”
“I won’t!” she said stubbornly. “I’ll stay here to always tell her how she lost your child! I’ll call her everyday and every night telling her how irresponsible she is as a mother!”
Devon cried again after hearing that. Daemon cannot take it anymore so he did what he should have done.
He took out his gun from his breast pocket and aimed it at Maddy whose eyes widened in shock, disbelief over her face because Daemon, the Daemon who she loves the most, has dared to kill her.
“No… you can’t be doing this. I am Maddy, Daemon!”
“You have an unforgivable sin that I will never forget, Maddy. So before I lose my temper here, get out of our sight.”
Her insides tremble. “How dare you!”
“Get lost!”
With tears brimming out of her face, she ran out of the bathroom in complete shock and anger.
Daemon cupped Devon’s face and sighed hard when he saw her colors returning. “Are you okay? Did she hurt you?”
“No.” She shook her head after and burst into tears, “but what I learned tonight is killing me, Daemon!”
He gathered her back into his arms when she began shaking all over. “What did Henderson tell you? Did it have to do anything with Emily?”
“Yes, he told me… he told me to start letting go of Emily because my parents won’t let her go. They brought Emily with them on the cruise with Henderson. I asked him if the baby looks like me and he said yes.”
The realization dawned on him. Devon is really right! Their Emily is alive!
“How could he tell that to his mother? I would never let her go. She is my child.”
He smiled at her to give her assurance that she is not alone in this battle. “I will never let her go too. This is something that we should be happy about. We can rule out the dreaded possibility. I don’t care where they are hiding my child, I’ll chase them to the ends of the world until I can bring her back to our home. So please, cheer up Devon. We can do this.”
He gently lifted her up on her feet and guided her out of the room where he found that a couple of guests were gossiping while looking at them.
After depositing Devon to his car, he turned to face Henderson who was concerned by the well-being of Devon.
“We’re leaving. My wife is really not feeling well.”
“Your wife… it would be better for her if you could bring her abroad for a change of scenery. She needs it so much. Staying in this state would cost more mental and emotional torture for her.”
Daemon opened the car door and nodded at the man. “We’ll do that after we get our daughter back.”
“Daemon,” he called him again when he’s about to climb inside the car. “Stop fuzzing and snooping around. The next man you’ll meet might not be as welcoming as I am.”
Daemon smiled slowly when he realized that Henderson had learned of his real intention why they came here in the first place. Still the same sharp man he used to know.
He faced Henderson with a stoic face. “If you don’t have anything to hide, then you would not be threatened, Henderson. I have so much respect for you but cloaking a crime under your watch could be a deal-breaker.”
“Isn’t that what we all do? We are the mafia, Daemon. Crime is nothing but a regular routine.”
He stood there in front of the man he deemed to be his second father who taught most of the tricks he knows in this world. “I don’t do crimes with children because I know how to have your own father brutally taken away from you. We have to go.”
He left him speechless and sighing for a memory from the distant past. Henderson was saved by his father from an assassination and that is where their friendship began. He took him in after his father was killed by Gestoni even though they were both good friends too.
After Daemon made sure that Devon is fast asleep in their room, he slipped off the house and went to Maddy’s condo.
“Daemon? Daemon, you’re here! You came here for me! I know you can’t just abandon me like that!” She hugged him while crying. “Are you here to save me?! Are you going to kill my husband for me?”
“No,” he said coldly and took out the knife from his pants. “I came here for this. I came here to ask you one question.”
Maddy looked at it with fear and tried to close the door but Daemon already pushed it open.
“No! Daemon!”
He closed the door using his feet and pulled Maddy to the sofa. “So shall we begin?”
